so this is it… last week of journals…

sniff…

(like i won’t be journaling next week anyway)

“the showdown at shepherd’s bush” – wow, what a book – if i had time, we’d detour this week in eighth grade land to talk about how to research a topic – b/c this book was researched – researched better than just about anything i can ever recall (as far as page-by-page sourced) – great book for runners to boot!!!

“one shot at forever” – sports illustrated writer – high school illinois team in 1971 were runners up for the state title – sort of like hoosiers – a one-division format – so it’s the story of how a small town does something that big – even with a (wonderful) hippie english teacher/coach – but also the story of the life afterward – and how you live with disappointment if you’re driven to overachieve – great, entertaining read

“the glory field” – myers classic – loved it – i told you so this week in class so i don’t have to repeat that

creative piece (meant to mimic the tendency for these not to be creative but just for you to journal about your life – like i care…) – so there was this guy who teaches who decided to go to a “singles” mixer at his church – and he barely made it in the door before his first obstacle: the name tag – apparently, it was booby-trapped – he couldn’t get the tag to pull of it’s backing – so he could stick it on himself – he could see the lady behind the desk, in charge, thinking something like “poor thing – no wonder he married – he can’t even get a name tag on himself”…

(that was actually the high point – it went downhill from there…)

happy last week – maf

  1. Hey i can’t tell he how sad i am to be doing the last blog for my whole middle school years. ;( So i woudl like to do an author’s purpose on the introduction to Freak the Mighty. Mainly it was just to introduce the characers and set a foundation for the rest of book. He starts by presenting the 2 main characters, max and Freak, and it kind of foreshadows on there friendship from the beggininng. It also begins to classify each of them and you llearn the ups and downs (mostly downs) of these caracters, as well as how they came to meet eachother. It was a simple introduction, that most stories have to basically teach the reader all ther neccessities to read the rest of the book. So 3 more jounals;(

  2. Hey, make up journals time! I have just finished “The Serpent’s Shadow.” [The 3rd (and maybe final) book in the “Kane Chronicals”.]
In this book Sadie and Carter defeat Apophis. I was really happy that Walt didn’t die. I really like Walt. I think that if I were a magician I would like to do charm making too. I also like learning about Anubis’s job. But I don’t think that I would follow his path. Maybe Thoth or Geb.
I think that it was an excellent idea of the author to make Walt the Eye of Anubis. I liked both of them and I was glad that Sadie didn’t have to choose.
I knew that he would do that! And that he made Zoe the Eye of Ra. I totally saw that coming! Maybe that’s just me….
I’m exstatic that they got Bes back but that he and Bast can’t stay with them. I’m really happy that Bes is finally happy with someone. Speaking of happy, I really like how Carter summoned Happi. He was really funny. Talking cheerfully about dieing and traps and, you know, the world ending.
I found it really interesting how they killed the snake. Destroying it’s shadow, and not dieing themselves, brilliant!!!
It kinda suprised me that Amos became the Eye of Set. I mean, if some God of Evil possessed me and made me loose my mind, I wouldn’t invite him back too soon. But to each his own.I like how the point of view changes between the two siblings. It helps you understand how they feel and understand what’s going on. It makes the story more interesting and understandable.
I really like this story, but I’m really sad that the series had to end. It was much shorter than Percy Jackson.

    Tuesday-Authors Purpose- 5/8/2012- Sabotage
I think the authors purpose is to entertain. I know it is fiction because Jonah Kathrine and andrea and Dare are sent back to the wrong time period. There is your proof time travel does not exist. However hard scientests might work on it it still does not exist. What the author is doing here though is doing her research on history. She said in the authors note that she tries to match her book with history best she can.

  4. Hey im going to do a soapstone on freak the mighty.

S-Max describes how he first met Freak, and how they became friends over that period of time. Then they meet up again in the third grade.

  5. I have finished Thr3e but I don’t have time to blog sadly. 🙁 will you continue posting through the summer?

  6. So ready for summer!! I am reading Goosebumps How to Kill A Monster by R.L Stine.
    Monday- Creative
This might be strange to you so I will explain it as simple as can be. My name is Shelbie and I am 12 years old. I live with a foster family i was introduced to last year. This is where it gets tricky. My dady was killed in business as he worked for the CIA. My mom worked for the FBI and is held captive somewhere in Juneau. I am not sure exactly were but my goal is to find her. I am not aloud to spread this information because my mother’s life is at stake. The catch is, I have 60 days to accomplish this. from Florida to Alaska and finish the mission. Exactly 60 days, can I do it?
    Tuesday-Author’s Purpose
I think the author’s purpose was to entertain the reader. Usually this is a low reading level but some are more difficult. I was reading a different R.L Stine book when I came across this book and it struck me as interesting. Gretchen and her stepbrother Clark don’t always get along. They both agree that they hate staying with their grandparents. It might be because they live in the middle of no where. The house is in the middle of a muddy, dark swamp area. They think there is something up with the house, especially upstairs. Growling noises are heard from one room that is the only one locked.
    Wednesday-Soapstone
S-2nd person, there id dialogue between the family
O-Gretchen and Clark discover something weird at their grandparent’s house upstairs.
    A-The reader of the book.
P-To tell the reader about a house that has a beast living in the upstairs that no one knew about.
S- Gretchen and her stepbrother Clark are fining weird things happening at their grandparents house.
T-Suspenseful as Clark an Gretchen search the house finding different clues and evidence each time!

  7. Hey im going to do 2 blogs today.
So Max describes his room, it’s the basement that was prepared for him under his grandparents house. He calls it the Down Under because it’ as if he is an animal that just stays down there and does nothing. Grim and Gram are keeping things away from him because they think he’s going to do something dangerous due to his family history as criminals( which we still haven’t got all the details yet). He walks out to his backyard while he’s thinking about where he can get some firewrks called M80’s that supposedly are a quarter stick of dynamite and stop your heart completley for one millisecond. So he is playing around when he sees the moving van pulll up, and out comes bearded men moving stuff in to the vacant house next door.

So These men are moving stuff into the house that was recently occupied by a dope head that was arresed finally. He figured he was moving back until he saw the Fair Gwen. He didn’t know her real name yet, but she was beautiful, something from a movie. He immediatley began to walk over there and act casual as he spied on the new neighbors. Then he finally got a look at Freak. The short blonde headed kid, with a normal head, but a crippled body. He was ordering the bearded men around, telling them to be careful with the computer. They told Gwen to calm him down, so he headed to the backyard to play. The he caught sight of Max, and that’s when they realized who eachother were.
That’s my last blog for my middle school years:(

  8. I have had a completely awesome week. We had the band concerts yesterday and that was fun because we got out of school. I’m really excited for Write in the Middle tomorrow! I’ve had to wait too long for it! I need to eat good food! I finished Insurgent and it was pretty good.

I personally don’t think it’s as good as Divergent but it was still very good.

I am finishing Bitterblue right now. It’s my favorite. It’s so insanely great!

The guys in it are pretty awesome. I like it better than Graceling. Po and Katsa are both in it so that’s cool. Bitterblue is the queen.

She sneaks out at night so that she can go to the city to see Teddy and Saf who she met. Saf is a Graceling but he doesn’t know what his grace is.

Bitterblue didn’t tell Saf and Teddy who she is because she knew they wouldn’t talk to her because they are thieves.

Bitterblue and Saf I think will end up together. I’m not sure yet.

Teddy was stabbed by someone in the streets and Bitterblue ended up saving his lives so Teddy and Saf kind of owe her.

Okay I know that wasn’t very long.

  9. So, even though this is my last blog that will ever be graded….. I will still blog 🙂 y’all will never get rid of me? And I mean, did you honestly think you’d ever get rid of me that quick???? Probably not. 🙂

Alright, so here goes nothing… My last week, I will blog on Bitterblue. (maybe I should blog on The Hunger Games just to go out with a bang) 🙂

Mon.- So, I don’t even remember where I left off last week. So, I’m gonna start off where Bitterblue is going down to hear the stories. After her first trip to the room under the bridge to hear the story, she constantly goes back. And so she’ll have money to spend on drinks and stuff, she sells a necklace that King Ror of the Lieneds gave to her for a bunch of money.
Tues.- The reason she had to be secret about it is because they’d be suspicious if she started asking for money, because, when does a Queen need money? So, she goes every night and sneaks out of the castle to go hear these stories.
Wed.- She mostly goes just to see these guys that scaled a castle wall and stole four gargoyles… Which is really weird. Cause when do you need a gargoyle? But, they do, and she catches them, but doesn’t say anything. But then, Teddy, the talkative of the two guys, is like, ‘Oh, and Saf said he knows you caught us, and he didn’t even care…’
Thurs.- So, as you might have guessed, Saf is the other guy. Teddy owns a printing shop, which Taf works for just because he is a sailor and looking for work. He was originally from some kingdom, which name I forgot, but he is a Leined by life, because he was raised by Lieneds sailors. And apparently he only steals what was already stolen…. So something about these gargoyles should turn up soon 🙂

Alright, bye last blog! Can’t believe I’m already going to high school…. Seems like just yesterday I started sixth grade and was all nervous. Now I’m sort of nervous about high school, but mostly excited! Can’t wait to plan my future 🙂

Why does my sister have to be sooooo annoying i just do not understand. Thought margo it is bad enough that i have doctor dolittle for my math teach and crazy mrs. bates who is bananas for bats for my english teacher. I come home and my sister is upside down on our kitchen table reading how to be dumb for dummies. How dumb? I now understand why her teacher sent her home with that note saying she might need “perfessional help” i dont get it she thinks that since im TOTALLY gifted she has to be the direct opposite. Tipical ten year old.

Thurs.- point of view shift- crash
Okay so im taking the point of view of pen. I dont get it why does crash have to ignore me when i try to talk to him? It dosent make any sense to me. Well i made cheerleading that is good i guess. I got embarrassed when i had to tell crash i was a vegitarian. Did you know he has a great great grandfather? Oh well i have to go. Bye

  11. so asleep… but still psyched for the scrimmage saturday 🙂 song of today is Second Chance by Shinedown. left off with the firm utterly controlling mitch’s life. i really want to reveal the end, so ill skip ahead to that part (good luck keeping up) Now, after mitch steals millions from the firm and grabs incriminating files from said firm, the mafia who owns it is quite angry with Mitch. luckily, mitch, abby, and ray (whom the fbi busted out of prison) are hiding away from memphis, headed toward Panama City. they hide in a hotel, but one of the mafia is there, so ray ties her up and robs her. later, she claims all sorts of other things happened, but ray and abby escape with only minor sightings. mitch is also hightailing it to the coast, where the three unite at a hotel. both the fbi (who are looking for the millions) and the mob (angry over the incriminating documents) are searching there, so they move down until a drifting clerk offers to protect them at all costs, for a price. mitch calmly peels off a few thousands and hands him the cash. Ray goes across the street for some ‘snacks’ and buys beer. a firm lawyer is there, who calmly calls the godfadda… *ahem* godfather. The mob sends in calls that mitch and abby are driving a green ford pickup north, which sends the feds on their tail. The mob quickens their pace, but the tammy, secretary mitch was working with, calls the FBI agent directing the investigations and informs them that they went the wrong way. Mitch, at the hotel, starts to go over the legal papers on video, which, after sixteen hours and over 14000 papers marked MM1, MM2, MM3, and ect., is finished. Ray finishes inspecting the false passports, and they hightail it to the dock. the mob has people there, but ray dispatches of them incredibly quickly. they sit there and flash a light to the sea, signaling the boat to pick them up. as mitch sails toward the farthest jamacian island to start a fishing and sailing life, tammy calls the fbi and tells them where the documents and tapes are. the Bendini firm is destroyed, everyone hauled to jail, and mitch lays in the sand drinking red stripe. everyone wins. kinda tired, so the authors purpose was to entertain.
