so katniss was a tennessee vol???

may your may days be bright…

“save the cat” – screenwriting 101 – few good ideas – mostly just recycled things – because, as you know, most movies are recycled anyway…

“out of the silent planet” by lewis – cs lewis – narnia fame – ransom, the narrator, a teacher, is captured and taken to a whole new world – actually, a better world – unlike ours – that’s uncommunicative, silent, with the rest of the world b/c our prince is a fallen angel – a reread for me – i liked the series the first time – this read was good too

“five chiefs” by john paul stevens – former supreme court justice – his memories of five chief justices he met/worked for – lots of laws and decisions he mentioned that aren’t in the top 10 that i typically read about (marbury v. madison, dred scott, brown vs. board, ny times v. sullivan, miranda, etc.) – i fell in and out of “getting” all that stevens wrote – above me at times – but great book – and good point about originalists (those that always want to know what the “founders” would’ve done – stevens points out that laws are for the living – even the founders believed this – and i think it rings true)

“hunger games” – and finally, there’s this book i’d heard about… okay, before i mislead a sixth grader, let me assure you that i heard about the book months before it ever came out, and i read it years ago – so a reread – enough time that i’d forgotten small details (that katniss came from the appalachian mountains – so it makes since that she’s a volunteer)

what’s to like about the “games”??? how about that it reads quickly – which i hope you do this week as you finish your next-to-last journals

  1. Hey im doing two blogs on a reread from a long time ago. I started to reread Freak the mighty. As i remember as a 6th garder, I cried. I remember it to be a pretty emotional book, but I didn’t really remember what it was about so i decided to do some light reading before summer. So this boy Max has anger issues..bad. His moms parents, Grim and Gram are watching him, ad they called him kicker, because well he liked to kick people. He remembered how they always tried to hug them, but he says thats one of the reasons he likes to kick. He goes to pre-school and that’s where he first saw Freak. He was short and on crutches. Max never tried to mess with him because he lashed at people with those crutches and they looked really cool.

So max was beginning to be friends with him, because of the braces he wore, and he had tubes all the wya up to his waist. Everyone called him Roboboy, and then one day he dissapeared out of thin air. He was never seen or heard of after that day. Then one day in third grade he remembers seeing this kid in a van scowling at him with fierce eyes, and he realized it was Freak. He wasn’t called Kicker anymore, he was known as Maxwell, Max factor, or Mad max. He also began to resemblehis father, or so told the Grandparents. they also said he acted like him and this worried them greatly. He didn’t live with them of course. The he grew a brain once Freak moved down the block the summer of eight grade whne he grew to fast for anything.

  2. Ok so i am reading divergent
I think its pretty good actually. There are 5 sections, amity- whom believe in peace, dauntlees-who are brave and against cowardnice,(ipersonally think they r a little crazy, but cool at the same time) abgnation-whom believe in selflessness, euridite-who crave knowledge, and candor-whom believe in truth. Beatrice is from abgnation, but she chooses dauntless out of the 2 she is supposed to choose from instead she has 3 options, because she is divergent, something dangerous. A secret she must hide but she doesnt know why. Now as she has left her family behind, she must fight for her position in dauntless. She must make one of the top 10 ra

  3. nkings by showing she is the best at jumping off moving trains onto syskrapers, throwing knivs and fighting.

  4. Alright. I’m waiting to get Insurgent. I LOVED DIVERGENT SO MUCH! I could have gotten Insurgent on my Nook but it was one of those special books that I would want in an actualy “book” form.
I pre-ordered it on Amazon so I’m hoping to get it either tomorrow or Friday.
Jake went to Books-A-Million yesterday so that he could get it and Books a million was only sent 10 copies of Insurgent and it was so popular that people when in the store fighting over the last copy..
    Good thing I pre-ordered mine.

Bitterblue (The book after Graceling and Fire) came out yesterday also.
I was excited about it because it sounded fantastic and I really enjoyed both Graceling and Fire.

I bought Bitterblue on my Nook yesterday and I’m almost halfway done with it. It’s fantastic. I think I like it better than Graceling and Fire.

Bitterblue is 18 now (She was only 10 in Graceling) She’s the queen now and Leck is dead.

One day she sneaks out of the castle and into the city. She walks into a bar where she sees two guys that are both Gracelings. She sees one of them stealing something out of a man’s pocket and the man didnt realize it.

She thinks that maybe he is graced with stealing.

She later ends up talking to them and she finds out that they only steal things that have been stolen in the past.

    That’s all

  5. Ready for summer! Reading The Watson’s Go To Birmingham!
    Monday- Author’s Purpose
The author’s purpose is to tell a story about a family that doesn’t have much money. The family consist of a mother and father with three kids. The oldest is a very troubling child. He does anything he can to make his parent’s mad. Eventually he pushes to far and gets sent to live with his grandmother. The middle age boy thinks it is too funny! The little baby girl has a different point of view! It isn’t funny in her eyes, because it is her brother!!
    Tuesday-Change
I think my book isn’t going to change a whole lot. Maybe the older brother learns respect but still causes mischief. So far the weird Watson’s have turned out to be really weird. I thought it was a nickname by choice but look at their kids. Byron, the oldest, got his tongue stuck to the mirror on the brown Bomber!! I mean, why even get close to the mirror. Staring at yourself actually can crack the mirror, when you have to pour hot water over it!!!

  6. Hey mr. mayfield im going to do 2 blogs to finish off the week.

So i want to do a POV of Freak in the story as a pre-schooler. I feel like a robot, and i have been made popular in my pre-school class because of it. It’s sad how these kids are so incompetent to not understand the real misery behind the braces and tubes. This is what leads to my so called anger problem, but in all reality i just want to show the kids what i’m really going through so they could appreciate me in a whole other way. But for now i might as well get as much popularity out of it as I can so it will last, and perhaps somebody might recognize me if i ever come back to meet my class mates again. It’s scary to think that i may not be back and see these kids again (personally i dont’t feel like seeing these kids anyways).

  7. One more blog> hahah i didn’t mean to post the last one yet. Any ways I will do an alternate ending for my last blog on Freak the Mighty.
So Max and Freak becvome very good friends, but when he moves away for that extended period of time he becomes scared for his friend. He searches every where for him, but of course he never gets far due to his age (and lack of education). For those 4 years before he sees him again, he has always thought about him,a dn when one one day he sees him again. Thay were reunited, but there time was limited and Freak slowly passed away. Mazx was forever scarred due to this, and would mourn on him due to this. He nevre grew up from that moment, and lived in the basement of his grandparents house. That’s a really sad alternate ending;(

  8. INSURGENT IS HERE! SO ON THIS BEAUTIFUL DAY WHILE IM RECOVERING FROM RABIES (AT HOME) IM READING INSURGENT!:D

  9. I completely forgot about blogs this week! My gosh! Never done that before… I guess I have end-of-the-year jitters 🙂
Not jitters, just…. Idk, mixed feelings?

    Gonna blog on Bitterblue

Mon.- So, here’s some background on Bitterblue. Bitterblue was the daughter of King Leck… King Leck was evil and liked to do horrible things to children and chop up animals. He had the grace of making people believe everything he said. He killed a lot of people, including his adopted parents, the last king and queen.

Tues.- So, Bitterblue now rules the kingdom because Leck was killed by either Katsa or Po… I forget, I just remember that I REALLY liked Po 🙂 he was awesome. (As awesome as Patch, Edward, and Peeta)
So, Bitterblue now rules over the kingdom by herself and with the guidance of her six advisors. They’re all getting pretty old. One is a drunk. But they all understand her because they all worked with Leck.

Wed.- With saying that, her advisors know exactly what he has done wrong with the kingdom, so they can fix it. Bitterblue is around 18/19 in this book I think. She receives letters from Katsa and Po. Po is blind from an accident that occurred in the book GRACELING. He fell of a cliff. Which was sad, because, as I said before, I REALLy liked Po. So he shouldn’t have been hurt. That happens to all male book characters I like, come to think of it…. Hm……

Thurs.- Bitterblue gets really tired of sitting in her castle, and she only has one yearly tour of her kingdom. She really wants to see these bridges, so she sneaks out. She ends up at a pub under one of these bridges, which are apparently renowned ones that some man that is now crazy built.
When she gets there, she has to stay inconspicuous (big word) 🙂 Which isnt very hard because shes a small girl….

Okay, I’m done. Sorry I forgot! Not like me… Well, I did have my incident this week with being so scandalous 🙂

  10. This week I am going to blog about The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. It is by Brian Jaques, the author of the Redwall series. Anywho, I know that he wrote this to entertain the reader. I pretty sure anyways. I think he wrote this to entertain, but he used facts about the countries and myths of the Flying Dutchman to an advantage, because he twists it to a new point of view of a never-before-heard-of-character. At the same time though he creates the image a huge ship where the boy is put in the galley.

    Tuesday

Wondering what would have happened if Neb would have escaped in Denmark?
My guess is that he would have found the black lab and went to a bench and hid until the pirates were gone. Then he would have made a home and been one of those beggars who sits on the corner of the block in New York. Or maybe if he didn’t like the dog anymore … sell the poor black lab. I mean that’s what I would have to do if I were him, but I’m not so that is all his discision. That is what I think would have happened to Neb if he escaped the ship in Denmark.

    Wednesday

After a lot of thought The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman is like the beginning of Peter and the Starcatchers. They both have characters get on ships. Neb got on because he was running from his stepbrothers and one of them hit him and he fell into the ice cold water, then all of a sudden a stringy rope hits his head and he uses all his strength to climb onboard. In the other book orphans get onboard because the are forced to be slaves to an evil king overseas. Well, I mean, they have \the same ideas just different plots.

    Thursday

So far the captain of the Flying Dutchmanis making a deal with a chinease merchant who is offering FOUR emeralds for him to deliver emeralds to other high-paying people. On another POV a boy is running from his stepbrothers and runs into a dead-end. His stepbrothers or the ocean? Which is worse? Well, he doesn’t have a choice because one of his stepbrothers hits him in the jaw and falls into the freezing cold ocean shivering and alone.
