the crimson a-day rally just fell short – like marj’s step on the way back…

“long road to boston” – this one came in maybe the day after the attack – a fiction book from 1988 – weave of the 1978 (fictional) boston marathon and the story of why the guy that finished high (again, fiction – he didn’t exist) was an unknown competiting against bill rodgers – the best part was about the race – just a great glimpse of what that race was like back then – i could’ve done w/o other things in there – particularly with how quickly the guy got over his dead wife…

“off-balance” what do you do when you’re a gold medalist at 14??? i think i have eighth graders near that age – anyway, this gymnast, now 30-plus, had gold at 14 – and had adults that made her life awful – so rather than the tale of a self-destructive teen (although she did become this later), it’s a story of how adults can mess up youth sports so very often – and the way olympic teams are picked in gymnastics defies logic – except that we do it through centralized, undemocratic control (there would be a rebellion in track and field and swimming if teams were chosen based on one family’s control – grrr…)

by my watch, maybe two weeks left of journals – make them count

  1. Wednesday- William made a model of his windmill to prove to his dad that it would work. His dad also felt bad because he couldn’t pay William’s school fees. William had still kept up but he was starting to only study electricity and the textbook that he checked out. everyone called him a madman because he continuously dug through the junkyard looking for parts in the old machines. William ended up finding everything that he needed except nails, bolts, nuts, and an electric motor. He knew how to make everything that the motor had but the materials could only be found in a motor so it would already be made for him when he found it. the radio motor wouldn’t use all of the energy from the windmill and wouldn’t make enough electricity ti use for anything except a radio. William’s friends helped him out by buying him nails and a bag of nuts and bolts.
    Write in the middle poem
    “Destiny”
    You can’t avoid it,
but you have to make it.
    You can’t take it,
    but you can change it.
When life gives you lemons, make lemonade,
but without sugar and water, it won’t work.
    when you follow you dreams,
    You will find you destiny,
    unless it finds you.
    Everyone has one,
    but no one wants theirs.
The purpose of life is to follow it,
    and it never ends.
You can sit up in Heaven and watch one begin,
Sometimes it will be the same as yours.

  2. I like your “Boston” poem.

I just listened to a song called “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Part 1”
    Wow. Music is weird…

I finished Eragon last night so now I just need to remember to bring it back to you.
I decided to read Looking for Alaska…… again… This is now like my eighth time to read that book.

It is probably one of my favorite books ever because I never get tired of it. I like The Fault in our Stars also but Looking for Alaska is the best.
Paper Towns is also pretty good. JOHN GREEN IS JUST AWESOME.

So Looking for Alaska is about this kid named Miles who is sent to a private boarding school in Alabama. Looking for Alaska is actually probably one of the only books I have ever read that takes place in Alabama. So Miles goes to Alabama gets settled in and he discovers how hot it is and meets his roommate named Chip. Chip has a nicknamed so everyone calls him The Colonel because he plans the pranks that him and Alaska play on everyone.

So Miles becomes friends with The Colonel and Alaska. He has a super huge crush on Alaska though.

Miles also inherits the nickname of Pudge because he is super skinny and it’s ironic to call him Pudge.

Also everyone in this book smokes a lot. Like all the time. And Alaska says she smokes so that she can die becacuse she is pretty suicidal.
    Alaska is suicidally beautiful.

Looking for Alaska is really deep and there are some parts of it that really blow my mind.. and sort of make me think. I guess that’s why I like it so much.

Everything that John Green writes is different. Nobody writes anything like the things that he writes.

Well I guess that is all for right now.

While they are running they smash through the floor boards they try to hold on but they fall and slide down the giant tunnel . They land on the bottom of the tunnels and they feel spiders on their legs.once they get past the spiders they come into a giant room.funny thing is the room is a underground fallout shelter.when harkat looks at the fridge he sees a postcard and puts it in his robe.spits about cried when he saw a rack with whiskey .he drank his fill and passed out on the floor.when the next day arrived they left to find the lake of souls.

I look down. I look around. I’m completely surrounded by people I don’t know. We sit in a circle on the floor and look at each other. This is weird. ” Okay let’s play a game. We will say what our name is, our favorite color, our favorite number, our favorite food and our favorite thing to do.” I said. They all agreed ” “I’ll start.” ” I’m Kayla Smith. My favorite color is blue. My favorite number is 13. My favorite food is home made Mac and cheese. And in the summer my favorite thing to do is swim.”

    Tessa went next.

” Alright I’m Tessa Tryon. May favorite color is blue. My favorite number is 100. My favorite is anything edible. And in the summer my favorite thing to do is hang with these girls.” She finished pointing to us.

  8. What goes around comes around
    Every one does their bit
Trying to put people before you
Standing up for what you believe in
Fighting back for people who can’t
Taking hits and blows and always getting back up
Putting your fist up and yelling ” Is that your best!”
Keeping your friends close and pulling them closer when they try to go away
    Eating everything in site
Sleeping in late and staying up all night
Going through boyfriends like the days of the week
Seeing every movie in the theaters
This is the average life of a sixth grader

  9. mon-i started re-reading a series i read in eighth grade called the shadow children series. the series is about third children who are illegal. in the future there wil be droughts and revolts and out f the ashes will rise a government who believes that each family should only have two children. all of the other children are killed or put in a prison. if you do have a baby in secret you can either hide it or get it a fake id.

tues- luke is one of those hidden children that lives in the shadows. his family owned a farm in the middle of the woods where it was safe for luke to be outside and not be seen. then the government made lukes family sell their woods so they could make houses and luke had to go into hiding. then luke sees jen in one of the houses that he knows already has two children.

weds- luke decides to wait until all the people in the neighborhood are gone to work and school and then he sneaks over to the house. he punches through the screen door and unlocks it. he quietly walks into the house and hears a clicking sound. then look walks into a room with a computer. at the computer in a chair is a girl clicking at a computer. she turns around and tackles luke.

thurs-she asks luke who he is and luke tells her hes the population police. she jumps up and tells him she knows hes lying. then she asks him who he really is. he quietly stands there and then jen figures it out. she asks him if he is another hidden child. he says yes and then jen says thats great. she starts talking about a rally and how luke should start preparing for it.

The sun shines and the moon glows
But how are we to know
    No matter, day or night
These two spheres help the world go ’round
Any time of day, the sun is shining over somewhere
The moon on the other side, giving off a light
to give a sign of hope that there will not always be darkness
    in the world
To believe that there a happy place around the corner
Telling you to never lose sight of what’s really important

    The most important things
Also known as nouns. Or people.
Family. Friends. The people who give your life
purpose. The reason to keep living the way you do .
Being part of a family is indescribable
    Like nothing to compare
But being in friendship is a totally different story.
Having a friend is like almost having a second sister.
But you almost feel closer than having a real sister. Just

  13. Looking for JJ
Last time I talked about how when she was little and she didn’t spend much time with her mother. What I’ve recently read is that Alice’s “team” told the news and reporters that JJ was moving to holland to start a New life away from all the drama. Once Alice saw the papers she gave a sign of relief. The reporters and detectives would stop looking for her and she could just start a new life and not have to worry about the old life that she had to leave behind. But a few pages back was an article that caught Alice’s eye. A young woman with a familiar face had a picture of her on the top of the page. At the bottom of the page told the woman’s name, age, and why she had posted this article. Her name was carol jones. Age 34 and she was a former model. She was very upset because she had lost contact with her daughter at age 10 and is not allowed to be contacted. She’s not even allowed to have a photo of her. Her daughter was Jennifer Jones. Also known as JJ.
The girl who at age 10 murdered a little girl and was sent to prison with a charge on murder.
