my spatial reasoning skills fails first grade:(

i got beat on which item comes next – in my defense, there was no established pattern in the square, triangle, titled square, octagon, blank, triangle rotation

against that defense, i missed pizza, hot dog, taco, blank, hot dog, taco 🙂

“tread lightly” – book on the why’s of running – specifically from the knee below – the impact of training shoes – it was all very interesting – very detailed – the title was a misnomer – wasn’t really about how you run so much as the development of distance running

“three times lucky” – highly recommendable easy read – was an elem BOB this year – all the elem BOBs were at the library the other day – amazing to me b/c i couldn’t find any of them back last fall – all checked out to the end of time – so three times lucky was a mystery – and it twisted enough that it wasn’t predictable – plus, even better, nascar was involved!!!

“wizard of oz: A to Z” – oh, i did love this book – probably most b/c i gave it to my mom to read first and she loved it – so we could share in a good book – basically, a comprehensive guide to the movie – starting with the book and ending with disney and warner brothers fighting over who owns what and what they can film – as always, judy garland comes out a depressing read – sad, sad story for dorothy – i went back and rewatched the movie – which was very worthwhile

“12 huge mistakes parents make” – guy that presented at first baptist in columbiana in february has a book out – and it’s really good – outside parents, for teachers – one idea he proposed that i like: kids should be able to give progress reports to parents/teachers – i definitely think kids are shortchanged a voice often – like they are told to be quiet, to obey – and not to question adults – but adults question people all the time…

more on tragedy bear to come this week!!! 🙂

  1. disney should make a “country bears jamboree” meets tragedy bear edition – complete with ride – or rather sit down and watch thing (best of my memory, the jamboree wasn’t a ride)

  2. Im working stories. Day one: lepers (i hated that story when i had a kid. It invovled stickers (yes i was picky back then too

  3. We got to throw a “party” and eat oreos while the kids sat in a corner. It was great (for the first two groups[there were 5])

  4. just finished “two a days: hoover high” – we need mtv to do a reality show on my eighth grade scholar’s bowl team this year

  5. and time for a little sampling from “Binder of Truth”…

Rachael wasn’t a completely objective reviewer of Fred’s Diner’s Breakfast because she’d grown up eating the kid’s meal, Stegosaurus O’s, always hoping to get the bowl with the prize in it. She never did. Once, she even snatched a prize from another kid’s bowl at the diner, thus earning the nickname ‘Snatchael’ for a brief time.

  6. Oh, my old nickname coming up again. 🙂 By the way, for any of you stalkers out there, I will be at the library tomorrow, solving mysteries, reading summer reading books, and doing journals.

  7. dang, i should’ve gone in the library – i only went to the water fountain – sorry for not checking sooner – i went in yesterday and got another elem BOB – and another musical – hint: “old man river…”

and dang it if i know about the “kind” of detective you are – the not so good kind:)

you should’ve gone over to the senior center to supervise voting – they looked like they needed help when i ran by:)

  8. My plans were changed. I’m in the courthouse, stalking the Trolley and trying to figure out why Columbiana spent $28,000 on it. I’m also talking to my best friend, a fairy named Leaf, and shooting the wall with a paper clip launcher I made. Run past the courthouse and I’ll wave!

  9. already ran – i was down there at 10 am – it was hot:)

the trolley was picking up old folks at the senior center across from the library when i started – i passed the trolley again near the pool and the 500 club – it was on the way back to pick up the seniors that voted – is my guess – it might have just dumped them off at the cemetery:)

i passed the trolley again heading back to the senior center as i left

so basically, in a 40 minute time, i made one loop of the city and so did the trolley

i do have a hard time justifying its existence outside of the fact it’s very entertaining to beat – plus, w/o the band’s metronome playing, the trolley dings help me keep time

  10. I have a metronome app. Did you know that walls are fun to shoot with paperclip launchers?
Also- my mother now says “Tragedy Bear” when something goes wrong.

  11. today’s story bit:

“Ah, the incident of the exploding
” The detective got out before another SMACK of the binder silenced her.

“Thank you. Anyway, years ago, I discovered a great talent, JoJo. JoJo was a shape shifter, meaning he could change form according to his will. JoJo and I had some great times, I taught him a few wrestling moves to use in hand-to-hand combat, I helped him read complex text so that the kingdom would never fall victim to fine print, and I introduced him to the Hello Kitty faith.”

  12. Fantastic!
Now I’m actually in the library! (And reading summer reading books)

  13. off to vote – time for the annual run-around of…

“Are you sure you’re old enough to vote?”

So far, I’ve been good not to respond…

“Are you sure you’re senile enough to be working this place every year, see the same kid every year, and ask the same question in form of a joke every year???”

  14. Ive had food in my station 3/3 days this week. Story Time. Looks like Jesus (protrayed by me tomorrow) is wearing colored shorts. What color? I dont know

  15. I just read older posts detective you were hanging out with an imaginary character

  16. billy – jesus would’ve worn plaid shorts – all the colors of the rainbow:)

jason – so glad you found the blog again:)

detective – yeah for tragedy bear – you and nicole have found Laketown today

me? i’ve found ridiculous heat in columbiana

  17. Woohoo. Oh, yes, Leaf. I forgot I put that. Laketown is fun. Nice music. I prefer Mirkwood, because Mirkwood is Elvish, but anyplace works.

  18. you asked the laketown people if there was karaoke, and they started in on a grand number – it’s good ole country music (i figure since they’re by a mountain, they’d like country music:)

  19. enjoy the library – i would be by, particularly b/c i finished another book – but, alas, i’m in alabaster today teaching teachers how to make their classes “rigorous” – you know, seeing as i’m the expert and all

do hope billy is rockin’ a pair of cammo shorts as joshua today – that is, i’d assume joshua would wear cammo:)

  20. what’s that, sing-a-long time??? from the story…

And with that, the lights dimmed, the spotlight appeared, General Willie jumped on stage, Rachael found a chair, Rachael forced Sarah Nicole to sit in a chair as well, and the song began for the general.

“Oh, play me some Laketown music
like I heard back before the war
then I’ll sing like Hello Kitty
with a throat full of fur.”

(During the interlude, the detective whispered “wouldn’t that be a fur ball?” to nobody in particular)

“Draft a team like Cole the Butler
Change the channel like ol’ Corbo
Curse a storm like the Miller
    Usin’ words I shouldn’t know.

“Oh, play me some Laketown music

(This is when Rachael began to sing along)

“Like I heard back before the war
then I’ll sing like Hello Kitty
with a throat full of fur.”

“Buy some shoes like the princess
march around like I’m St. K
    Built a diner like a Fred’s
Usin’ dino eggs in a soufflĂ©.

“Oh, play me some Laketown music
”

Of course, by the “Hey, hey, HEY!!!” part, Rachael was onstage to dance with Willie.

  21. Enjoy the library. The one day I’m not going to be there…yes, I do have imaginary friends! 🙂

  22. The Homer Bear

I checked out The book of assassins and the anatomy of motive i am going to have some fun reading ahead.

  23. Going back to the library every day for a week from now till next Thursday for those of you who failed kindergarten

  24. i agree with the begging of the book of assassins that most assassins kill to have a place in history yet history rejects them

  25. last! i’ll be there probably monday around 10:45 – after i run – finished my edu book but will have to wait for the weekend to be done before reloading

    detective – that’s awesome

i had to think of why general willie was introduced in the story – like why he’s important – i think he’s going to teach sarah nicole about the powers of her binder – of course, right now the detective has a song to sing to the tune of YMCA – that’ll be my work for tomorrow

  26. Detective not just imaginary friends but characters based off of me. That just weird

  27. YMCA? Ooooooohhhhh…..I can’t wait for this.
    Guess what!!!!
In 2:23 minutes, The Fault In Our Stars begins showing!!!!!!

  28. Detective i meant no offense by my past statement. yesyou are reading the time right 1:18 AM

  29. yep, another sample:

Sadly, to Sarah Nicole, her binder didn’t come with bullets – but it did have enough features that the next several hours were spent learning. Sarah Nicole was so absorbed she didn’t even notice the detective took over karaoke with:

“It’s fun to be at the H-K-W-E
it’s fun to be at the H-K-W-E
    it has everything, even karaoke
you can hang out with Willie!!!”

“it’s fun to be at the H-K-W-E
it’s fun to be at the H-K-W-E
    from gaming to bait,
and there’s no line or wait!”

“It’s fun to be at the H-K-W-E
”

(You can still pick up a copy of the original at the emporium so there’s no need for me to continue the endless loops)
