why is everything i’m reading going back to world war II???

happy 6th – and 5th -and 4th – i for one am very glad that with every passing day, the chances of being kept up all night with blasts are decreasing…

“the monuments men” – there’s tremendous irony that i read books that have been turned into recent blockbuster movies – and that my kids go to movies all the time – and i never do – but i read books all the time – and they never do – so with that introduction, you would think the odds would be good that if i read a book that becomes a hit movie that my kids are sure to have seen it – and of course, they haven’t b/c it’s either “too history-ee” or played opposite some romance humor whatever of the week – or was against transformers 5 – or, and if this is the real reason, i’ll laugh forever, the movie was rated R and so they couldn’t technically go (i doubt it was R – but hey, you never know)

anyway, “monuments” was my only book for the week – it took a while to get through – the scariest part to me is just how many ideas hitler had for transforming europe – in this case, steal major works of art, house them in a secret cave of a mountain in austria – and then flatten his old hometown that he deemed wasn’t “worthy” enough of him and rebuild it just the way he wanted – complete with new artwork – and before he committed suicide at the end, he still went down and looked at his models – that stuff terrifies me

so that said, “monuments” supplemented previous WWII things i knew – just moved the lens closer – in a war where the chase at the end was rescuing people being killed in concentration camps, i’m not sure the rescuing of artwork deserves the same laudatory praise, but those guys did all the good they could with the time that they had – which is all any of us can do, i guess

  1. Is there a record for someone getting first on every blog over te summer?

  2. sid – i dunno about lucky – your complaints about summer reading have killed your future grades…

detective – yes, the record was set by annMarie a year ago with 142 posts – give or take 142:)

no, unless you really want to be enemies, you and binder girl don’t have issues that cause separation by the end of the year – i may kill tragedy bear off though… 🙂

  3. Still trying to find one of the women’s biwling championship of ’07. No luck yet

  4. detective – i doubt tragedy bear dies in a fight with mayfield – mayfield hasn’t played a central role in any of the books since the first one – and really, Corbo was the star of that book too

tragedy bear may die from cookies by a half-elf that tries an old recipe from Keebler…

billy – i got a 1979 bama national championship shirt over the weekend – thrift store – one whole dollar – i’m 90 percent sure it’s retro – meaning it’s not 35 years old – but still cool:)

  5. I really need to “Ketchup” on my blog stuff 🙂

So, there it is folks…. My “Punder”

  6. I wonder what shall happen in Mayfield’s book. Mayfield, I have decided to read Around the World in 80 Days last. I don’t care on what u or anyone says I just want to play fable 3 when I get it. Yes I know its rated M so is halo and yet, I play it. So go ahead and say that’s why I am weird but why should I care? There is only one me and I am unique plus you have not right to judge me. Only Jesus can judge me so anything hateful or just mean I am just going to ignore. Amen and if you have no idea what I am talking about go get a bible and I am trying not to be mean if I am I am sorry but I am speaking my mind. By the way AMEN!

  7. oh sidney, if you’d read the next verse, JC says “for in the same manner that you judge…” – so the implication is that we will judge – and we’re expected to judge (that’s even mentioned later in the gospels)

the point of that passage in Matthew 5, unless i’m just not reading it right, is that we live with pure lives – that we’re able to take the specs out of other’s eyes b/c we have removed the planks from our own – not that we sit around not judging anyone – and thereby signaling that it’s just all okay

but hey, who am i to judge??? 🙂

  8. Wow…13 comments.
Don’t we normally have around 50?
    This is quite surprising.

  9. I think so too.
I’m just going to say ‘First’ here because I won’t be on for the rest of the week due to Summer Camp.

  10. Hey Mr.Mayfield, this makeup work for last week I am doing 6 creative writings about CLASSROOM RULES.

    1. Be promt because if your not then you’ll be that one kid that doesn’t do his or her’s homework and you’ll also always be late!
    2. Be prepared because if your not then maybe one you might not go to school and that day you were out the teacher might have said to study for a pop quiz and you would have not studied and probably would have got an F!
    3. Be positive because no one wants to see a negative person walk in to a classroom.
    4. Be productive because you always need to get your test done in time because if you don’t that day you’l probably be laying in bed feeling horrible that you didn’t ever finish it.
    5. Be polite because if you don’t use your manners you’ll be always going to the principal because you always talk back.
    6. Respect everyone even if you don’t like them and if someone is talking in front of the classroom wait and raise your hand before talking out loud because if you don’t, you’ll get embarrassed and will probably get in trouble.
