where the slow kids get to be FIRST!!! on Sundays – always…

i thought it was supposed to rain today and get cool…

“after (something) after” – nicole should know the title for this one – but i forget it – it’s a follow up to “drums, girls, and dangerous pie” – a BOB last year – i think there are more books in this series – more power to them – the author, and the company – i, however, am not a fan – just b/c it’s really very low end reading – very predictable – and very unrealistic  – but for you fans of spicy eighth grade romance, go ahead:)

“january 365” – bad BOB – bad BOB – book one of 12 – hello??? 12 books for the series – in middle school??? before i lose track of all my anger, let’s go with this: someone help me, is there a Richmond in great britain or australia – b/c two pages in, i read “mum” and knew it was british – but they keep referring to the setting as richmond – and the only richmond i know is virginia – and there’s an original british publisher – so i think they switched some names to “american” to sell more books – or sucker US kids – who are apparently suckered if we’re reading this for BOB

so bad week with books – always next week…

  1. Well, it has been quite an interesting week, and now that it’s slowly coming to an end, I might as well share an article I found quite interesting.

I found this article on the news website NPR, which is a highly educational news website not only for its vast selection of news articles but for things other than news, such as arts, literature, and music.

The article, “Supermarkets Waste Tons Of Food As They Woo Shoppers”, addresses the amount of food wasted in the U.S. in supermarkets. So why not do some dialectical journaling on the matter?

Line: “Supermarkets and restaurants serve up more than 400 million pounds of food each year, but nearly a third of it never makes it to a stomach.”
Commentary: This line hit me very hard with shock. That’s 132 million pounds of food that isn’t consumed and is wasted a year. This food could feed the 1/6 of Americans struggling with hunger, but instead it’s being tossed into landfills, which decomposes and sends greenhouse gases into the atmosphere.

Line: “It comes down to shoppers demanding stocked shelves, buying too much and generally treating food as a renewable resource.”
Commentary: It’s quite interesting to think about the truthfulness of this line. In today’s society, food is something that is always taken for granted. 100 years ago, it would’ve been a different story. It’s remarkable how much the outlook on the value of food has changed in the past century.

Line: “…label confusion was responsible for 20 percent of the perfectly edible food that gets tossed out in homes.”
Commentary: 20% of perfectly edible food gets tossed into the trash due to consumers’ inability to know the difference between the “Best By” date and the expiration date. The two are constantly mixed up by consumers, causing them to think the food has gone bad, and they throw it away.

I thought this article was very interesting and that it shows how illogical humans can be when it comes to national problems.

    Happy weekend everyone

  2. Well Derek Jeter’s career just ended. 🙁 RE2PECT

    Creative Writing-
Bottom of the ninth, two out away from finishing my first career No-Hitter. I had to face the mean fastball hitter Adam Jones, Then the home-run machine, Nelson Cruz. I pitched two early off-speed pitches to try to set up for my fastball. Neither worked. 2-0 now so must get a strike. I decided to go with my fastball. Almost trouble just foul, but he crushed it. So i decided to go with another fastball. I got him, way late and a slow dribbler to third easy play. So 1 out away, crowd on their feet. I am so worn-out, just ready for this to be over, but so not ready. Got to make this out. First ptch was a low and outside change-up. Next two strikes. so 1-2 i’m gonna try that inside fastball again. H eturned on it a shot to left…….. Laying out Brett Gardner caught it. I was mobbed in the middle. WOW

  3. No Brandon, you’re not the last to blog. Leave it up to a procrastinator with a packed schedule weekly to fill that role.

Since I haven’t gotten the chance to read due to the insane amount of homework that has been given this week, I’m going to do three more creatives this week, since I’ve already done one. Wait, you don;t read my blogs? Well…nevermind then.

    Triumph

The feeling you get when you sink the shot,
    Catch the pass,
Throw him out at the plate,
It all gives us a feeling of Triumph.
    The 100 on the test,
    The passed class,
The new relationship with a teacher,
Whatever it may be, it’s Triumph to you.
    Shoot for the stars
    Aim high
    Think big
(No, I’m not reading off cat posters)
    and you will always Triumph.

    Friends

    You have to be careful
and you need to be a good judge.
    Like telling real from counterfiet
    talent from luck.
    Real friends, or fake friends.
Find real friends, and keep them close
like a pillow through your sleep
or a Bible when you feel troubled.
When you grow up, who will still be there
    talking you through life’s troubles?
    Your real friends, that’s who.

    Memory

    Our dearest treasures
    our most bitter thoughts.
    They make us
    or break us.
    Comfort
    or disturb.
    Motivate
    or depress.
    We cherish them
    or despise them.
    They will be there
until we replace them with new ones.

  4. Dialectal Journal

It goes against our human nature. Forgiving is a supernatural act that Jesus Christ was capable of, but when we are hurt by someone, we want to hold a grudge. We want justice.

Forgiving, a thing n one really wants to do. Like it says we just want to hold a grudge or be mad at that person. It is just part of being a human. We all have to realize what we have to do as Christians to show other people the right way to act through Jesus Christ. People look at us and say oh he is a Christian or H’s believes in evolution. We must set and example for others. Be a leader not a follower. We must forgive and others will realize and want to forgive also.

  5. i need to blog. no time for jokes today, sorry…

i know you were all looking forward to them…but i’ve gotta do my blogging.

anyways, i’m reading a new book called THE HERE AND THE NOW, by Anne Brashares. it’s set in the future, and it’s about this girl named Prenna who had to travel to the future (like, 2090 future…) with a community of her people to escape a mosquito epidemic. now, everyone either has a phobia of mosquitos, or just hate them really bad.

but what the book is about, is because they came from the past, and they time-traveled period, they cannot fall in love with anyone outside of their community. but, Prenna falls in love with this guy named Ethan who is not in the community, and she has to decide if she wants to follow the rules or fall in love with Etahn anyways. it’s really good.

    here’s my creative:

    “Mind Garden”
    by Blue

    Our minds are like gardens.
We have to tend to them, water them,
    and keep the weeds out.

There’ll be storms that wash out the soil.
There’ll be days when the sun shines too hot.
There’ll be days when the sun don’t shine at all.

But when the harvest comes, you’re saying,
“It was all worth the while.”

If you tended to it the way you should have, then the harvest will be plentiful.

    But, if you let
    Weeds invade it,
keeping the water from soaking in,
or if the sun shines too bright,
    evaporating the water,
    or,
if you just planted it in clay,
the harvest might not be all you wish.

The thing is, with our minds, we have to be just as careful with them as we are with gardens.
    ~

    🙂
