if you don’t like baseball, i guess you won’t enjoy my reading this week – and shame on you if you don’t love baseball… 🙂
“in pursuit of pennants” – if you want to build a championship team, there’s been a formula since the 19th century – and that formula has changed as the game has grown more complicated – so in the 1890s, you could take a marginal minor league team, build your people, and eventually become an owner (pirates) – today, you have 18 people in “charge” of scouting – great, enjoyable read
“olivia” – great book on a “marginal” HOF mention – a definite hall of fame person – 1961, left cuba for MLB – didn’t make a team but the bay of pigs invasion kept him in the US – he didn’t see his family for 10 years – just amazing story – particularly b/c it’s from the twins – 99 percent of books i read on baseball end up about the yankees – in the ’60s, it’s also about the red sox and the cardinals – so most of the stories i read were new
“ballpark food” – oh, a great, indulgent read – you can get everything from seaweed to bacon-wrapped hot dogs dipped in chocolate – or something like that – lots of vegetarian options, which i thought was neat – but a great, fun read – should be a BOB next year
maf
Saw the guy from calera’s team… And probably not, but FIRST!
i hope you stole calera guy’s bread and milk – he probably expects you to – that and to calculate how much he owes in groceries while standing in line:)
(you know, it’s good to play with people’s minds when they decide you are an evil genius…)

Many people are so obsessed with people’s wealth. Many kids these days are getting all mad at their parents barbecue they won’t get them the new iphone or because they don’t have the newest things. These days people fail to realize that the real wealth in life is having people there for you. To find real happiness you must forget about the material things in life and quit focusing on what you want and focus on what you already have.
“You miss 100 percent of the shots you never take.”
—Wayne Gretzky
^
This is kind of a classic quote, the whole “if you don’t try it then you defiantly wont make it” But i would just like to take a minute and talk about Wayne Gretzky (the best hockey player ever in my mind) I like how people who we see as people that have everything and get everything, people who don’t have to try in life, say stuff like this; it shows that they see that if they didn’t try at things then they wouldn’t be where they are now
“Work like you don’t need money, love like you’ve never been hurt, and dance like no one’s watching”

People are always afraid to do new things because they’re afraid about what people will think or what will go wrong. We need to quit that, quit focusing on what society will think or who will laugh and you or if you’ll get hurt. Live in the moment and don’t get scared thinking about the past of the future, because then things will happen right in front of your eyes and you won’t even notice because you’re too busy worrying.
People often say that motivation doesn’t last. Well, neither does bathing – that’s why we recommend it daily.
—Zig Ziglar
^
Sometimes people use motivation as an excuse to not do things, that say they lost interest or that the motivation wasn’t there anymore. But incentives must be built on and redone because if you don’t change them you’ll get bored and quit going towards your goal. You must come up with motivation daily to keep you on the right track to happiness.
I’m Billy… Apparently I don’t matter.
eventually you get used to being forgotten

Getting interesting.

Catching Fire I am BACK with the hunger games books!!! Ha!
Katniss try’s to give Gale some money but he wont let her give him a penny. Katniss was thinking about her dad. And how he used to work at the mine. Because now Gale works there to support his family, and she is always worried. Then she thought about the Hunger Games, he wished she could just forget it all and go on with her life. But the capital and the “tour’s” make it almost impossible. It also doesn’t help that most of everyone that works for president snow and him himself despise of her, they want to make sure that she never forgets the horrible times.
Katniss went out into the woods to hunt, she new that she did not need to anymore but she still loved it and just because her family had money now that does not mean that she doesn’t want to anymore…
🙂
Catching Fire
Hunting was a part of Katniss, it was kind of sentimental because her father hunted, he taught her to hunt. She knew that Prim would never go outside the fence, Katniss really did not want her too because it was dangerous, also Prim had to big of a heart to kill another living creature, even if it would keep her alive… Katniss kill a animal stashed her bow and arrows in the tree so know one would find it then she went to the fence and stopped and listened to see if she could here any noise from the fence, it was really never on even though it was supposed to be on full time with full charge. Then she slipped though the wires and went to go to her old house.
🙂 🙂 🙂
Catching Fire
Katniss liked her old scrubby house more then her new house the old one had, value to her. It did obvously not have as much value to her mother like it did to her. Katniss liked the house because her father had raised her (parshly) in that home. Then a scratching/pounding soud made her stop daydreaming and she became very alert. When she opend the door it was a cat. It was Prim’s old cat. “You are so ugly,” she said. “you DO know that, Right?” she asked. Then she picked up the old ugly cat and got her game bag.
That is all. 🙂
the lost hero
Leo has gotten the dragon back to the camp and every one was freaking out because usually you freak out when a dragon made of metal land is your camp for demigods. so every one is freaking out and circling it and trying to keep it from attacking. and while people are running around yelling kill it piper is sitting there and saying its beautiful. so Annabeth tells them they need to go and finish their quest and they head off to see the north wind god.
Milkshake Day!! Vanilla milkshake with a side of homework.
Im doing a dialectical journal today since i didnt do 1 on monday
“Book of Mordred:Kiera”;Line:’I can’t be dead’
Commentary: Alright, crazy stuff is happening. Kiera’s horse( maybe Temptest) has been shot down while kiera was riding it. So she has gone to this, i don’t know what it is. i’m guessing she is right in between life and death. Just a guess. But she thinks she’s pondering over how she got there, where she is, and is she still living. Good points to ponder.
Don’t forget tomorrow is PREDICTION DAY VI

Okay here’s a creative poem for tonight. Its a haiku.
Work
To finish your goals
To accomplish what you asked
And get back to work.
That feels a little too short so here’s another.

Line-Lola has a good feeling about it…
Commentary- Lola is competing at a gymnastics comp this week and she has a good feeling about it because her arch nemesis and really good tumbler so this week she has a good feeling!!!
So we were reading a book called a good year and we were trying to find an allusion literary term. And mayfield was saving a sucker for the end and he was like the ending has a lot of irony and it it is similar to……
And I said THE GIVING TREE and I got the sucker
This is for last week
Halo. A well known franchise endorsed by both Xbox and Microsoft, that have full lines of apparel, toys, and (no-brainer) Video Games. I’ve recently (last week) picked back up “The Cole Protocol” by Tobias S. Buckell. This fictional novel, based entirely off of the games, is apart of a “New York Times” bestselling series. but a quick side note, Tobias is not the only author. He is actually one out of a group of four authors: Eric Nylund (wrote 3 of the 6 novels), William Dietz (1 out of 6), Joseph Staten (1 out of 6), and, of coarse, Tobias Buckell (1 out of 6).
The series may be a little wordy, because it’s a war book, but does not compare to the language in American Sniper (P.S. I loved that movie and recommend that you see it [ with an adult ] ). Back to the book. It takes a little less liberty of sparing us the graphic details of the action “scenes”, but who want to make war sound like a game for children. Honestly, it’s not exactly for all of the audiences. It’s more for people who can stand a little bit of military-like actions/events/words.
More on Halo later.
Im reading a book about Mount Everest and this kids story as he prepares to climb it. He took on wanting to climb things when he was younger and now he’s following through as he goes to a rock climbing gym but he’s spupposed to be fifteen but since he looks it they let him in anyways. He meets people and sends out letters hoping for people to sponsor him so that he can get the money he needs to go rock climbing in different mountains as he goes into higher mountains each time, the price goes up, each time. Where im at in the book right now is when he goes to Nepal and hope to climb mountains there. I reccomend reading it because it is a good book.
eragon
Eragon is hunting and tracking a doe so his family can have some food for the winter. he is in the part of the woods that no one ever goes to because they come back crazy or not at all. hes hunting when a smooth blue stone explodes into the middle of the herd. he looses the doe but picks up the stone and makes camp in a more covered part of the woods he heads home and that’s where i left off

Snow,
O do we want snow.
We always get so close.
O do we really want snow.
It really gets cold,
But we only get the cold.
Our state neighbors get snow,
But no, we never get snow.
O do we really really want snow. 🙂
I would have got that sucker that kate was talking about but !.i was raising my hand not shouting out 2.i’ve never read that story
Revelation 20:4
And I saw the souls of those who had been killed because of their testimony about Jesus and because of the word of God.
People risk their lives to preach in what they believe in. Missionaries go across country to spread the word of God. That is a huge risk but it pays off as people learn about Jesus.
Revelation 22:20
“Yes, I am coming soon.”
Jesus will come back to this Earth and take all of his Children home. Then we can spend a better life in heaven. We all get sad when a loved on is lost, but we know they are in a better place, where everyone should have a chance to live.
Line: It’s not raining
Commentary: An eight year old boy has to go to a clinic. He has autism. His sister was telling him to get in the car, but he wouldn’t get in the car until he had his umbrella. Then his sister said, “it’s not raining”.
Line: There is not much new to draw in the waiting room.
Commentary: Catherine was waiting for her brother while he was at his appointment. She liked to draw so she wouldn’t be bored. She looked up and saw a boy in a wheelchair. He handed her a book of picture symbols he used because he can’t talk. She decided she was going to redraw his picture symbols for him because she’s a good artist.
Creative: One day, I was at a pond looking at ducks swimming gracefully on top of the water and I wondered what it would be like to be a duck. All of a sudden, I look at my skin and it’s yellow! I try to scream for help, but all I say is “quack, quack”! I tried to scream again, but all that comes out is “quack, quack, quack!” I look at the water and my reflection is staring back at me. I see an orange beak and I have feathers all over my body. I’m a duck! Quack, Quack!
okay here’s a summary of what i’ve read from “Open Your Eyes” this week.
in what i read this week, the subject of dishonesty is mentioned. the book says that dishonesty is anything from boldly lieing, to twisting the truth so that it helps your case. more specifically, it talks of deciet. deciet may not be considered lieing by some, but the reality is that it is. even when you may think that twisting the story or only mentioning some details is a mere stradegy, its still being dishonest.
the book also talks about intimidation. intimidation causes us to not have a bond with the intimidator, while kind words, and encouragement do. if you want someone to do something for you, then it would probably be better to not scare the person out of their wits – yes mr. mayfield, i AM teaching the sixth graders how to boss people around and it be okay.
this book is a lot more than just jake olson’s story. this book is also helping to build the reader a strong character.
Find a place inside where there’s joy, and the joy will burn out the pain.(Joseph Campbell)
if you are sad and in pain then find a happy place and the pain will go away
You cannot have a positive life and a negative mind.
(Joyce Meyer)
if you are having a good life and you have negative thoughts then you wont be happy
The willingness of America’s veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.
(Jeff Miller)
for the veterans who put their life on the line,we will always salute them and give them respect
The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.
(Leo Tolstoy)
if you have these two then you can accomplish almost impossible tasks
No AnnMarie, you and Shelby are not the only eighth graders that still blog.
Kate- good job on The Giving Tree- I got it too 🙂 no sucker for me though.. 🙁
I really needed this four day week with two hour delays strewn throughout. I think we all need an easy week every once in awhile… Anyways, my journals this week will consist of some dialectical journals.
Line: “Over and over. They be making me remember everythings. Me old songs, they just be natural. But now they be stuffing new things into me and this poor head hurts horrid” (Lowry, 2000)
Commentary: Kira and Thomas visit the little girl being kept in the basement of the building and they learn that she was taken from her home because she was a very talented singer without any instruction.
Line: “Suddenly Kira knew that although her door was unlocked, she was not really free” (Lowry, 2000)
Commentary: After visiting with the little girl, Kira began to contemplate the real reason why she was kept safe and not executed for being physically disabled, which was usually done.
Line: “We’re the ones who will fill in the blank places. Maybe we can make it different” (Lowry, 2000)
Commentary: Kira attempts to make Thomas realize that they can bring the way of life back to the way in used to be before the big disaster that wiped out nearly all of civilization. Thomas, however, brushes off the statement.
Line: “He be getting you some blue!” (Lowry, 2000)
Commentary: Kira and Thomas go looking for their friend Matt, for they had not seen him for two days, which was highly unusual. They visit his home and his little brother tells them that Matt has gone off to “get blue”, which is the only color dye that Kira does not have for dyes.
Have a great weekend,

Monday- ” Get your facts first, then you can distort them as you please.”
Mark Twain
So basically what he’s saying is instead of not knowing what happened and your telling lies about it you need to figure out what happened and then you can distort the truth as much as you’d like. You don’t need to tell things that you’ve heard from others or change them for that matter unless you know the truth about what happened, who said what?, etc.
Tuesday- ” If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.
Mark Twain
There are two types of people that lie in the work 1 people who are short and sweet to the point in their lies or 2 the people who make these huge elaborate lies. Even if you tell small lies they pull up not just on your self conscious but pile up in your head. Our brain rembers important thing and lies are not worth remembering to the brain. We waste more energy trying to keep up with our lies we’ve told and life up to them. Even if your lies are small they catch up to you and when that time comes you may not rember and you will get embarrassed so don’t lie in the first place.
Wednesday- ” You have enemies? Good. That means you’ve stood up for something, sometime in your life.
Winston Churchill
You can always please everyone if do you’d never be decided it’s in our human nature to disagree with one another. If you always try to please everyone your really pleasing no one there always be the people that want you to decide and pick. If you have people that don’t like you that means you spoke your mind about something or did something independently that they didn’t agree with but that good because that means you have a mind of your own and your not a chameleon changing with everyone else and not making decisions for yourself or against others.
Thursday-” However beautiful the strategy, you should occasionally look at the results
Winston Churchill
It mean always check you results regularly even the best most detailed laid out plans have flaws that can compromise the results. You have factors that go into everything that are constantly changing and that are constantly changing the results. Trust in your plan but check to make sure it will work first before you put all of your time into it. Even if you think your plan in Bultproof, flawless, etc. dont always assume the outcome will be like in the text books the factors change which influence the outcome.

4 journals book: My life as a book
Line:”You should animate those drawings,”
Commentary:Pedro must be a supermonkey who can read people’s feelings because he inches away from Michael toward me. He sits between us, and when the car chase sequence ends, I’m back to my old self. Afterward, I show Michael my sketchbook. “There not as good as my father’s drawings,” I explain. “I’m still learning” Michael spins his wheelchair toward the computer station in the corner and tells me to bring my book.
Line: “Derek!”
Commentary: “Gotta go,” Matt finally says. “Fireworks on the beach tonight.” My summer stinks! Instead of going inside, I climb up the porch to the roof of the garage. Vacation’s more than half over, and I haven’t done anything fun. This criminal! I hear the door and know what to expect.
Line:”‘Cuz you are one.”
Commentary: The rock suddenly stops; it appears to weigh a hundred pounds in Joe’s meaty hand. “Since when did you get so smart?” he ask. “Just ‘cuz I have a hard time at school doesn’t mean I’m stupid.” I skid back and forth on the sidewalk with my bike. “Besides, my mom’s a vetenarian. I know a lot about animals.”
Line: “Your friend’s on the other phone.”
Commentary: It makes me think of the grate at Jamie’s store, and I wonder if he’s enjoying the rest of the family being gone for a few weeks. Thinking about Jamie makes me miss Matt. It’s almost as if remembering Matt makes him remember me because, the next thing I know, Amy’s at the door of the office.
😀
