Ionic Bonds
Students took their Ionic Bonds Chapter Test (100 pts) after turning in the Ionic Bonds Chapter Assessment (92 pts). They began the Covalent Bonding Voc (78 pts) after the test. If they did not finish the vocabulary it was due for homework.
Ionic Compounds
Students had their Ionic Compounds Voc. Test (50 pts) and then began the Ionic Compounds Study Guide (97 pt) for a review of the concepts on Ionic Compounds. They will have the Ionic Compounds Chapter Test on Monday when they return. All grades will be on the 4th 9 Weeks grading period.
Ionic Compounds
We concluded taking notes from the PowerPoint on Ionic Nomenclature, Metallic Bonds and oxyanions and how they are determined. Students were given the Ionic Compounds Word Search (36 pts) to complete during class. They will have the Ionic Compounds Voc. Test on Monday when they return.
Ionic Bonding
Students continued taking notes on Ionic Bonding after completing the Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts). We took notes on oxyanions and completed a worksheet on writing ionic formulas.
Ionic Compounds
4th period
Students completed the Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts) in class. Upon completion of the Worksheet, they read and take notes from pp. 219-221 on polyatomic ions. Then, they are to answer practice problems 1 & 2 for a bronze grade (15 pts).
6th period
Students learned how to write and name formulas with polyvalent ions (transition elements). We worked several problems and then they completed the Writing Ionic Formulas w/Polyvalent Elements WS (50 pts) and Naming Chemical Formulas w/Polyvalent Elements (50 pts). They were assigned the Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts)for homework.
Ionic Compounds
Students continued by looking at the Podcast on Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds and completing the Writing Ionic Compounds Worksheet (50 pts) in 6th period. Fourth period learned what polyvalent ions were, and how to write/name compounds w/polyvalent ions. They concluded class w/two worksheets; Naming Ionic Compounds w/Polyvalent ions and Writing Compounds w/Polyvalent ions (50 pt each). They were due at the conclusion of class.
Ionic Compounds
After reviewing the Properties/Characteristics of Ionic Compounds, we went over the terms oxidation number, ion charge and began to learn how to write Ionic formulas for ionic compounds. We observed a podcast from PoppaPodcast on Writing Ionic Formulas and completed an Writing Ionic Formulas worksheet (50 pts).
Ionic Bonding
Students continued taking notes on "Ionic Bonds" from the PowerPoint covering the topics of energy in reactions, lattice energy, subscripts, superscripts, and how to write chemical formulas for ionic compounds. They completed the Naming Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts) for homework.
Ionic Compounds
We continued taking notes on the characteristics of Ionic Compounds, their properties and how stable octets review the ability to form ionic compounds. The PowerPoint was used to illustrate the electron configuration notations and forming ionic bonds. Students were also advised to get the work made up for missing tests by Friday during their GPS periods.
