Students took the Covalent Compounds Voc. Test (48 pts), we went over the answers, then they took the Covalent Compounds Chapter Test (100 pts) w/formulas given on the board. No Homework!!!
Category: Chemistry
VSEPR
We continued and finished talking about molecular geometry and covalent compound shapes. Solubility, types of covalent bonds, and network covalent solids. Students were given their Crossword Puzzles to complete for their vocabulary tests and the Chapter Assessment to complete for the Chapter test tomorrow.
VSEPR
Students took notes on molecular geometry and how VSEPR determines physical and chemical properties of covalent compounds.
Physics/Motion
Students took notes from the PowerPoint on speed, average speed, and velocity. They were taught the units and how to calculate speed, distance, or time using the variables. Students were then given the Speed Word Problem WS (20 pts) for homework. They also received a grade for having their calculators in class after being reminded to bring them.
Structural Formulas
Students took notes from the PPT on how to draw and determine molecular and structural formulas for covalent compounds. We briefly went over the beginning statutes of the VSEPR theory.
Covalent/Ionic Nomenclature
Students answered the worksheets, Naming Ionic/Covalent/Acids WS (50 pts). They also completed the Writing Ionic/Covalent/Acid Compounds WS (50 pts). AFterwards, we began the Covalent Compound notes on Molecular & Structural Formulas.
Acid Nomenclature & Formulas
Students took notes on how to name acids and write formulas containing acids. Then, they worked on "Naming Acids" WS (50 pts) and Writing Acid formulas (50 pts) WS.
Covalent Compounds
Students learned terms bond length, Bond dissociation energy and began to take notes on Covalent Nomenclature. We concluded class with a Podcast on naming Covalent Compounds.
Multiple Covalent Bonds
Students continued taking notes from the PPT on Multiple Covalent Bonds, bond length, dissociation energy and covalent nomenclature.
Covalent Compounds/Single Bonds
We covered the types of covalent bonds in Groups 2A - 7A. We learned how to draw Lewis dot models for the single covalent bonds in Groups 4A - 7A.
