Intruder Alert/Covalent compounds
Students were instructed where to go during an intruder alert in the classroom, lunchroom and outdoor during class change. We also talked about the beginning the review questions from the Covalent compounds chapter.
Covalent Bonding
Students were to have completed the Covalent Bonding Vocabulary (78 pts) and turn in at the end of the period.
Ionic Bonding/ Covalent Bonding
Students reviewed the Ionic Bonding Voc. Test and Chapter Assessment. They took the Ionic Compounds Chapter Test (100 pts) after the review. The Covalent Bonding Voc (78 pts) was worked on after the Chapter Test.
Ionic Bonding
Students took the Ionic Bonding Voc. Test (50 pts) in class today. They also completed the Ionic Bonding Ch. Assessment (98 pts) during class. They will have the Ionic Bonding Chapter Test on tomorrow.
Ionic Compounds
Students took the Polyatomic Ion Test (25 pts) and completed the Ionic Compound Word Search (36 pts) in class. They will have the Ionic Compounds Voc. Test on Monday.
Metallic Bonding
Students completed the notes on ionic bonding by discussing and taking notes on Metallic Bonding. We reviewed the properties of metals, metal characteristics and types of alloys. We completed the Ionic Compounds-Combined WS (50 pts) and the Ionic Compounds Word Search (36 pts). They will have the Ionic Compounds Voc. Test on Friday as well as the Polyatomic Ion Test.
Polyatomic Ions
Students took notes on oxyanions and polyatomic ions. We then viewed a podcast on how to name compounds containing polyatomic ions and how to write ionic formulas with polyatomic ions. They were given worksheets on "Naming Ionic Compounds with Polyatomic Ions" (50 pts) and "Writing Ionic Formulas with Polyatomic Ions" (50 pts) for homework. They will have a polyatomic ion test on Friday.
Students learned the difference in main group ionic formulas and chemical formulas w/polyvalent ions. We then learned how to write formulas with transition elements and take formulas w/transition elements and name them. They were given 2 WS's for homework on "naming Ionic Formulas w/Polyvalent Ions" (50 pts) and writing "Polyvalent Formulas" (50 pts).
Ionic Formulas
14th - Valentines Day
Students learned how to write chemical formulas for ionic compounds. After watching a short podcast on writing Binary Ionic Formulas, they completed the Bonding and Chemical Formulas WS (100 pts)for homework.
15th -
Students completed the "Naming Ionic Compounds" WS (50 pts) in class. We began to learn what polyvalent ions are and how to name chemical formulas with them.
