We finished the PowerPoint on Structure of Matter where students learning about the three types of nuclear reactions w/radioactivity. Then they began the Structure of Matter Ch. Assessment (90 pts). We took the Structure of Matter Voc. Test (50 pts) at the some point during class. They will have the Structure of Matter Chapter Test tomorrow.

Structure of Matter
11-13-17 (Monday)
We covered the scientists who discovered the neutron, atomic number, atomic mass and how to find mass number. Via the PowerPoint we determined the atomic theory and how it describes the atom today. Isotopes and how to exemplify isotopes.
11-14-17 (Tuesday)
We completed two worksheets on Determining the Parts of an Atom (45 pts) in class, and the Symbols for Isotopes (50pts). Then finished the Powerpoint on The Structure of the Atom.
Structure of Matter
11/6/17 (Monday)
Students completed the "Structure of Matter" Vocabulary (78 pts) in class.
11/7/17
Students completed the "Atoms & Building Blocks" Review Questions in class.
Matter; Properties & Change
Students took the Matter Properties & Change Voc. Test (50 pts) in class, then began the Matter Properties & Change Ch. Assessment (82 pts). They will have the Ch. Test on tomorrow.
Mass Percent
Students reviewed the formula for mass percent of a compound. Then we worked 3 practice problems on the board before working on the Mass Percent WPWS. They were assigned the Mass % WS for homework.
Compounds
Students took notes from the PowerPoint on Compounds, Elements and differences in Pure Substances and Mixtures. We began to explain the Law of Definite Proportions and how to calculate the percent by mass of the elements in a compound.
Pure substances
Students continued notes on Matter as we compared Elements and Compounds and discussed ways to separate mixtures. They will have a Matter Voc. Test on Wednesday and Chapter Test on the same material on Thursday.
Matter-Properties & Changes
24th (Tuesday)
Students took notes from the PPT on States of Matter, the Kinetic theory and how chemists describe the states of matter.
25th (Wednesday)
Students took notes and discussed the changes in the states of matter, the uses of energy to cause phase changes and the names of the various phase changes. We also discussed the two types of properties and changes w/examples. Finally we ended class talking about the Law of Conservation of mass and parts of a chemical equation.
26th (Thursday)
We began the Law of Conservation of Mass WS with examples. They completed the Conservation of Mass WS (50 pts) in class. We then continued to discuss the differences in mixtures and compounds and types of mixtures.
Matter and Properties
Students took notes from Matter, Properties and Change. We distinguished between physical and chemical properties and intensive/extensive properties.. Notes were taken and discussed from the PowerPoint.
Atoms
Students turned in the Atoms Voc (66 pts) and began the Atoms RQ. (60 pts)
