As we cover the "Elements" concepts from the PowerPoint, students reviewed the the properties of the "s" block elements. While covering the uses and characteristics of Hydrogen, we began to review concepts of group names. Then, we began to look at the characteristics of the Groups, and the uses of the elements in those groups.

The Element
Students used the computer and the internet to look up the answers to the "The Elements" section Review Questions (60 pts). They were to complete them for homework if they did not finish in class.
Periodic Table & Periodic Law
Students took the Periodic Table and Periodic Law Chapter Test (100 pt). After the test, they began the Elements Vocabulary (32 pt)
Periodic Table & Periodic Law
Students took the Periodic Table and Periodic Law Vocabulary Test (50 pt) and began the Chapter Assessment (92 pt) for the same chapter. They will have the Periodic Table and Periodic Law Chapter Test on tomorrow.
Periodic Table & Periodic Law
Jan. 15 (Wed)
Students continued taking notes from the PowerPoint and learned the 4 major blocks of the Periodic Table and why they are designated as such. We concluded class introducing students to the term atomic radius and how it differs among metals and nometals.
Jan. 16 (Thursday)
Students continued the PowerPoint on the Periodic table and Periodic Law. The Major topics were atomic size, atomic radius, ions, ionic radius and trends of both properties in groups and periods.
Periodic Table and Periodic Law
Students learned how to determine an atoms place on the Periodic table using electron configuration notation and following the rules from the Quantum Theory. They also learned how to use the periodic table to find the number of valence electrons in an atom. Using the Periodic Table to find valence electrons and vice versa were the key concepts.
Periodic Table and Periodic Law
After comparing groups and periods, students were able to state to characteristics of metals, and nonmetals on the Periodic Table and how they lead to the development of the modern Periodic Table.
Periodic Table & Periodic Law
After writing and discussing the notes from the PowerPoint on "the Periodic Table and Periodic Law" we went over how the read each square on the Periodic Table and the contributions of Henry Moseley.
Periodic Table & Periodic Law
Students began taking notes from the PowerPoint on "The Periodic Table & The Periodic Law" and discussing the development of the Periodic table.
Periodic Table & Periodic Law
Students began and answered the "Periodic Law" Review Questions (100 pt) from reading the textbook. Whatever questions not answered in class were answered using the link to the internet from the syllabus and earlier information given. Each student has their own individual password from the 1st semester.
