Students learned how to draw electron configurations using the following rules: Aufbau, Pauli Exclusion Principle, and Hund's rule.  We also learned the shorthand notation and orbital diagram notation.  They were assigned the Electron configuration Notation WS (56 pt) for homework.  We will cover valence electrons and complete the WS on Wednesday as well as have the Electrons in Atoms Voc. Test on Wednesday.  They will have the Electrons in Atoms Voc. Test on Thursday. They will have the Solid, Liquid and Gas Chapter Test on Thursday. Once again, they were reminded to pick up the 1st Sem. Exam Rev. Guide to prepare for the 1st Semester Exam next week.

Students continued the notes and discussion from the PowerPoint "Electrons in Atoms" as we covered the Quantum Theory of the Atom, orbital shapes, Pauli Exclusion Principle and Hunds Rule.  We completed class as students began the examples of Electron Configurations WS.  Students were reminded orally and on the board of the Electrons in Atoms Voc. Test on Wednesday and Chapter Test on Thursday.  They can pick up their 1st Sem. Exam Review Guide at any time during the week.

Students began notes on "Electrons in Atoms" from the PowerPoint.  They were reminded to have a calculator for class tomorrow.  The objectives for the early part of the chapter were emphasized as well as the current structure of the atom and scientists who discovered the parts.  They were reminded to have all of the information from the 1st day in preparation for the 1st Semester Exam in 2 weeks.
