Students continued taking notes and discussing material in the Matter; Properties and Changes section.  We went over ways to separate mixtures, how to determine the two types of pure substances and how to read the Periodic Table.  Students were reminded to have a calculator on Monday.

After going over the types of mixtures and how they differ, we also talked about ways to separate mixtures.  We concluded class talking about he two major types of pure substances.

As we continued the PowerPoint on the types of matter, how we differentiate them, the two major types of matter and how they are distinguished. We learned about pure substances & mixtures, types of mixtures and how to separate mixtures.

Students were introduced to the Law of Conservation of Mass/Matter.  After discussing and working practice problems, students learned how the Law of Conservation of Mass applies to life.  We then began work on the Law of Conservation of Mass Word Problem WS (50 pt).  If they did not finish the WS in class, they were to complete it for homework.  They also received a Bronze grade for having their calculators in class.

Students took notes on the chemical and physical changes of matter.  We began studying and discussion on the law of conservation of matter.  They were reminded to bring their calculators tomorrow.

Students took notes from the PowerPoint on the "Matter; Properties & Changes" as we discussed the 4 states of matter, their properties and characteristics, the kinetic theory of matter and phase changes.

Students compared intensive and extensive properties of matter as well as how to categorize the types of matter.

Students began taking notes and discussing the properties of matter and how they are used in Chemistry by taking notes from the PowerPoint

Students performed measurements of mass and density in calculating the density of nuts, bolts, and washers in lab.  After which they determined the density of the items also.  After learning how to use the electronic balances for mass of the objects, they also determined the percent errors in their measurements.

Students reviewed the details and procedures for the Density of Irregular Solids lab.  We reviewed the procedures of how to use a triple beam balance and how to calculate density in 2 methods.  We will complete the la on Monday.  We also gave the students the new grade sheet for the 2nd 9 Weeks and the items that were on the sheet.  They began the Matter; Properties and Changes Review Questions (60 pts)
