14th - Valentines Day
Students learned what a polyvalent (transition) element is. We also learned how to write ionic compounds with polyvalent elements and how to name compounds with polyvalent elements. They had two worksheets for homework; Naming Ionic Compounds with Polyvalent Ions (50 pts) and Writing Ionic Formulas with Polyvalent Ions (50 pts).

15th -
Students learned what a polyatomic ion is, how to identify them, their formulas and charges. They were given a list of polyatomic ions to learn. Then, we learned how to name ionic compounds with polyatomic ions. They were to complete the worksheet, "Naming Compounds Containing Polyatomic Ions" for classwork (50 pts).

Students went over the portion of Chemical Bonds notes on Writing Ionic Chemical Formulas and Oxidation numbers. Then we watched a podcast on Writing Binary Formulas on Ionic Compounds. Students then completed the "Bonding & Chemical Formulas" WS (100 pts). They were assigned a "Writing Ionic Formulas" WS (50 pts) for homework.

Students completed the final two groups and their uses from the Periodic Tables PPT. Then, they completed the Lecture WS (100 pts) using their notes on the Elements & Their Properties. They were assigned a Word search (40 pts) for homework. They will have the Voc Test on Elements & Their Properties tomorrow and the Chapter Test on the same material on Friday.

Students learned the key Transition Elements, where they are located and uses of the special transition elements. Students also learned the names of the two periods at the bottom of the Periodic Table and the most common ones. We began the location of the nonmetals on the Periodic Table, their properties and how they relate to metals. We are building towards a Vocabulary Test on Elements and their Properties on Thursday, and a chapter test on Friday.
