Mrs. Cook continued her PowerPoint and notes on  "The Elements and their Properties" as she covered uses of the elements in the Transition elements and Groups 16-18.  They completed a worksheet in class and a Word Search for homework.

Mrs. Cook went over the properties of metals and nonmetals and the characteristics of the groups as the students answered the questions from her WS and PowerPoint.

Mrs. Cook allowed students to use laptops to perform an activity on the "Elements and Properties" Chapter as they answered questions on a worksheet.

The student teacher, Mrs. Cook takes over the Physical Science classes.  She assigned them the Review Questions from the "Elements & their Properties" section. (60 pts)  They were allowed to complete them at home if they did not finish in class w/the books online codes and passwords.

After reviewing the "Atoms & Periodic Table" Chapter Review, we took the Atoms and Periodic Table Chapter Test (100 pt).  They began the Elements and Properties Vocabulary (32 pt) after the Chapter Test.  If they did not finish the Vocabulary it was for homework. 

Students took the "Atoms & the Periodic Table" Crossword Puzzle (40 pt) and completed the same chapters Study Guide (90 pt) in preparation for the Atoms & Periodic Table Chapter Test on tomorrow.  The student teacher, Mrs. Cook will take over the Physical Science classes on tomorrow.

Jan. 15 (Wed)

Students continued taking notes from the PowerPoint and learned the term electron configuration.  After using the periodic table to determine valence electrons and energy levels, we drew atoms w/the correct number of protons, neutrons and electrons. For homework, they complete the "Atomic Structure WS 2" (21 pts). 

Jan. 16 (Thursday)

Students learned who devised the 1st Periodic Table, the three major types of elements, the properties of metals and nonmetals, and how to draw electron dot models. We concluded class w/the Atoms and the Periodic Table Word Search (40 pt).  They will have the Atoms and the Periodic Table Voc. Test on Friday.

Students learned the difference in groups and periods.  As well, we learned the terms atomic number and mass number and how they differ.  Then, we learned the rules for writing atomic symbols.  We then got an "Atomic Symbols" WS (100 pt) which allowed us to learn and write the symbols for the elements correctly.  We also worked on the "Atomic Structure" WS (47 pt)

Students today took notes from the PowerPoint from the "Atoms and the Periodic Table" on parts of the atom, their location, mass & charge; locations of electrons, and the items in the blocks of the Periodic Table. 

Today, we introduced via the PowerPoint, "Atoms and the Periodic Table" the scientists, J.J. Thomson, Earnest Rutherford, and Neils Bohr who contributed to the model of today's atom.  We took a Bronze Grade (20 pt) on if students took their notes or not.
