Students continued to work out of the Chemistry Workshop 3 workbook. They learned how to determine single and double replacement reactions as well as what a decomposition reaction looks like. Finally, after completing Aims 15 (50 pts), and 16 (45 pts), they were given a worksheet to categorize and identify all 4 types of chemical reactions mixed together that was worth 22 pts.

Today, each student was allowed to read from the Chemistry Workshop 3 Workbook and learn about Synthesis and Decomposition Reactions. They answered the worksheet for Aim 14 (36 pts) and Aim 15 (40 pts) during class w/little to no assistance. They were expected to read and answer the questions that accompanied the AIM. At the end of the Aim, the students should be able to tell the difference in a synthesis and decomposition reaction.

2-17-15
We went over the difference in a chemical reaction and a chemical equation by using the "Chemical Workshop" 3 workbook. We spent time reviewing how you should interpret what you read as well as use prior knowledge to understand the concepts. Afterwards we read and answered Aim 12 aloud in class.

2-18-15
We continued going over the information from Aim 12 which relates chemical equations and chemical reactions. After orally going over those answers, we began Aim 13 which covers the "Law of Conservation of Matter". Students were expected to be able to complete the answers to the aim in class and discuss them.

2-11-15
We discussed Black History in Science and how African-Americans have contributed to the US.

2-12-15
Today, we began the PowerPoint on the difference in reactants and products in Chemical Reactions. We also discussed how chemicals were named and how to write a chemical equation. We will begin differentiating the types of equations and reactions on Tuesday.

Today, we entered a new chapter in Chemistry. We will be studying how to balance, write and understand chemical reactions that occur in life. We began by looking up and defining the key terms in "Chemical Reactions" (50 pts).

Took their Chemical Bonding Chapter Test today and had the Chemical Reactions Vocabulary for homework.

Students began on a worksheet called "Element Code" that tested their ability to write symbols correctly given clues from the Periodic Table. Then we took the Elements Symbols Test and completed the Section Review WS. They will have a Vocabulary Test on Chemical Bonding Tomorrow. The Chapter Test on Chemical Bonding will be on Friday.
