We reviewed the prefixes and how to write covalent formulas. Then, students were given the "Writing Chemical Formulas for Covalent Compounds" WS (50 pts). They were then told to complete the "Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds" WS (50 pts) also to compare the ways to write the formulas. Students were then reminded of the Vocabulary Test (24 pts) on Thursday and the Symbols/Polyatomic Ions Test (50 pts) on Wednesday. The "Chemical Bonding" Chapter Test will be on Friday.

Covalent Compounds
We copied the final notes from the PowerPoint on Chemical Bonds dealing w/covalent bonding. After the notes, we listened to PAPAPODCAST and viewed the podcast on Naming Covalent Compounds. We completed class with a worksheet on "Naming Covalent Compounds". It was due at the end of 7th period today (Study Hall). Students were reminded to be aware of the Test coming on the Names of the Polyatomic Ions and Element Symbols.
Polyatomic Ions
Today, we went over the names, charges and symbols for the polyatomic ions. We explained the difference in naming compounds w/and without polyatomic ions. Class was concluded by students getting a worksheet on "Naming Ionic Compounds w/Polyatomic Ions" (50 pts).
6th
We went over the difference in naming Ionic compounds w/Transition Elements. We practiced several problems on the board and concluded class with the "Naming Compounds with Polyvalent Elements" (50 pts). They were also given the "Chemical Bonds" Vocabulary (30 pts) to complete for homework.
Naming Ionic Formulas w/Transition Elements
Today, we reviewed the topics we've covered so far w/chemical formulas. We've
1 - Named Ionic Compounds
2 - Written Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds
3 - Written Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds w/Transition Elements.
We then introduced the next step in Chemical Formulas...Naming Ionic Formulas w/Transition Elements. We worked several practice problems on the board then assigned the worksheet, "Naming Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds with Polyvalent Ions".
Ionic Formulas w/Transition Elements
We looked at a podcast showing how to write formulas w/the transition elements. Then, we completed the Ionic Formulas w/Polyvalent Elements worksheet (50 pts)
Valence and Ionic Formulas
We had a quick review by pop test on The Valences of Elements by worksheet (40 pts). Then, we looked at a quick Podcast from Papa podcasts on "Writing Formulas for Binary Ionic Compounds". Finally we finished w/a few practice problems on the board and the "Chemical Bonding and Formulas" (100 pts)Worksheet.
Chemical Bonding
Today, we learned how to determine ionic bonds from looking at the Periodic Table. We also learned the characteristics of ionic bonds. At the end of class, we went over the rules for naming Ionic Compounds. All except 1st and 6th period got to do the "Naming Ionic Compounds" WS for homework. 1st/6th period will finish those notes and do that worksheet in class tomorrow.
Chemical Bonding
20
We read and answered the questions from the "Chemical Bonding" Chapter.
21
We began the notes on Chemical Bonding by reviewing the conditions that lead to Chemical Bonds and the determination of why atoms bond.
Elements & Properties/Chemical Bonding
Students took the "Elements & Properties" Test and then completed the "Chemical Bonding" Voc. Enjoy your Martin Luther King Jr Celebration on Monday. See you on Tuesday.
Elements & Properties
Students worked on the "Elements & Properties" Seek-n-Find (40 pts) at the beginning of class. After finishing the Seek-n-Find, they took the "Elements & Properties" Vocabulary Test (36 pts) If they finished the SNF early they began the Chapter Review (76 pts) in preparation for the Chapter Test on Tomorrow. Regardless, most students had the Chapter Review for homework.
