29 - We began the notes from the "Classification of Matter" PowerPoint. We discussed matter and properties. We ended class discussing how elements are classified

30 - We compared elements, compounds and mixtures from the Classification of Matter Notes. We ended class with a worksheet that allowed us to determine if a substance was an element, compound or mixture.

We conducted a lab using the "Scientific Method" today. We made a hypothesis on how many water drops a penny would hold and conducted an experiment. After filling in the Data Table, we turned it in and began the Classification of Matter Voc.(38 pts) The Classification of Matter Review Questions were assigned for homework (50 pts)

Today, we reviewed the "Scientific Method in Action" WS that they had for homework. Then we went over the stages of the scientific method in a poptest. We finished class with a worksheet entitled, "The Experimental Method of Research" and Simpsons WS on the Scientific Method. They were reminded of a Scientific Method Quiz on Wednesday/Thursday.

Today, we discussed the Scientific Method and it's 7 steps. We differentiated between the control and experimental group, the quantitative and qualitative data, and the two types of reasoning. Then we got the Applying Scientific Method WS for homework. The Scientific Method Quiz is scheduled for Wednesday.

Today, we defined the terms from the Scientific Method Voc. Students were able to define 14 out of 17 terms using their textbooks. The 3 terms that were not in their textbook required them to use their computer knowledge and browsers to define the scientific terms. They had to learn how to decipher the scientific definitions from all of the other definitions. The Voc. was due today. (38 pts)

Due to another prearranged AP Lab from Chemistry, the SI Lab final day has to be rescheduled to Tuesday. We will complete the Length Lab and SI Lab on Tuesday. Classes began either the Length Lab or Scientific Method Vocabulary during class today. This is the final day of the 1st 9 Weeks.
