Atomic Structure
Students completed the Atoms & the Periodic Table Review Questions and the Crossword Puzzle in class today. There will be a vocabulary test tomorrow.
Electron Dot Models
Today, we looked at the differences in groups and periods on the Periodic Table. Then we learned of the characteristics in metals, nonmetals, and metalloids. Finally, we learned how to draw electron dot models using the Periodic Table. They were given an Electron Dot Model WS due before 8th period today. Last but not least, they were assigned the vocabulary for this chapter for homework and due tomorrow.
Drawing Atoms
Students learned how to determine the electron configuration for atoms 1-19 on the Periodic Table. We also learned the difference in groups and periods and atomic number, atomic mass, and mass number.
Atomic Structure
Today, we learned how to determine the number of protons, neutrons and electrons in an atom. We learned how to determine atomic number and mass number. We also determined the difference in groups and periods. Today, they completed the Atomic Structure WS during school.
Element Symbols
We covered the notes on the Chemical Symbols of the Periodic Table. Students were then given a Worksheet to complete that asked them to write the Chemical Symbols for 100 elements. Learning to write the chemical symbols correctly is the main goal, as well as becoming familiar with uncommon symbols.
Scientists of the Atomic Theory
Today, we completed the last of the scientists who developed the Atomic Theory. We began to talk about the parts of an atom, the locations of electrons and The Periodic Table.
