Today, we learned the names of Groups 1, 2, 3-12, 17, and 18. We also went more indepth w/the characteristicsof Groups 1 & 2 and uses of the main elements in those groups. They were made aware of the Vocabulary Test scheduled for Wednesday and Chapter Test scheduled for Thursday of this week.

Today, we began with a discussion on the new changes to expect at MHS from the administration. We also explained that we have HIGH expectations for all students to be capable citizens of holding a job, performing that job successfully and being on time to work in school and on a job. We also began the Elements and Properties Vocabulary and Review Questions. They were instructed to complete by 7th period. If they did not finish, they should complete them for homework.

This week has been a chance for all students to review the material in Physical Science from Day 1 of the school year. We have use old tests, the website (www.gpscience.com) the dsl projector and quizzes to review for the 1st Semester Exam. All students were also given a 4 page review guide for the Semester Exam on Wednesday of last week. Exams have been given as follows: Monday (1st Period), Tuesday (2nd & 8th), Wednesday (3rd & 5th), Thursday (4th & 6th) and Friday (Makeup Exams). Today, we discussed the characteristics of metals, nonmetals, and metalloids, as well as writing electron dot models. Students got an Electron Dot Model WS and a Atoms and Periodic Table Seek-n-Find. They were told to be sure to have their Textbook, notes and a pencil for their Vocabulary Test and Chapter Test tomorrow. They were not told it would be open book and notes. They were also handed the opportunity to begin to study for their 1st Semester Exam w/their 1st Semester Exam Review Guide.

Today, we covered the parts of the atom, their charges, and locations. We also began a worksheet on the symbols for the elements and deteriming the number of protons, neutrons and electrons in an atom. We distinguished between atomic number, mass number and atomic mass. They were to have both worksheets finished before 8th period began.

Yesterday, Thursday, we took the Solids, Liquids, and Gases Test after reviewing the Vocabulary test and looking at the website for the text, www.gpscience.com. All students were urged to use the website as a study tool along with their notes. We went through the website and reviewed the answers to the Seek-n-Find, then took the test. Today, we are beginning the notes on "Atoms and the Periodic Table". The start of the Chemistry section of Physical Science is today. We will cover the chapter in 4 days so that we can begin to review for the 1st Semester Exam which will be the last week of the 1st Semester. Tune in and Study.

Yesterday, all students were introduced to Charles Law. We also wrote the formula and equations for Charles Law after discussion the parts. Then we had a Word Problem WS dealing with volumes and temperatures in Charles Law. Today, we did a Seek-n-Find in preparation for the Vocabulary Test we had in the middle of Class. They were to complete the Seek-n-Find in class then pick up the Chapter Review for Solids, Liquids, and Gases and complete it for homework. They will have a Chapter Test on Solids, Liquids, and Gases on Thursday. They must bring a pencil as they were told today. Objectives were reviewed for the test. Study, Study, Study and remember the formulas for Charles Law, Boyles Law and Pressure.

Today, we discussed the relationship between the volume of a gas and pressure as long as the temperature remains constant. This was called Boyles Law. Then we worked 2 practice problems on the board before we got a worksheet for a grade. Most students had it for homework. You still need the calculator for tomorrows Charles' Law word problems. Vocabulary Test on Wednesday and a chapter test on Thursday.
