The Shelby County College and Career Center will be hosting a Student Recruitment Open House on Thursday, November 13 from 5:00-7:30 p.m. for all current and prospective students.
According to Principal Russ Cofield, students and parents will not only be able to tour the campus and learn more about the school’s various Career Technical education programs, but will also be able to connect with college and industry partners.
“We recently held a very successful Open House which was attended by more than 40 representatives of our local business and postsecondary community,” said Cofield. “We are inviting those individuals back to participate in this event. We want each parent and student to see our programs, along with their affiliated postsecondary and industry partners. Our goal is to facilitate connections between students and multiple pathways to success.”
Cofield stressed that he wants students and parents to see the promising college and career opportunities that are available in Career Technical education fields.
“If a student is interested in welding, then we want them to be able to see our welding class and talk to our instructor, Mr. Miller,” said Cofield. “But it is also very helpful to have someone like Craig Francis, a representative of the Insulators Local 78, here to discuss the wide range of career options that are available to someone who completes a welding program.”
As part of the Open House tour, parents and students will be treated to free hot dogs and hamburgers.
