The Shelby County College & Career Center (SCCCC) hosted its annual Business and Industry Open House on October 15 for over 51Ā members of theĀ business, industry, and post-secondary community. Ā Numerous business representatives attended the event, along with post-secondary partners such as Central Alabama Community College, Herzing University, Jefferson State Community College.Ā Also in attendance were representatives of the Greater Shelby Chamber of Commerce, Shelby County government, and local municipalities.
According to Principal Russ Cofield, the purpose of the event was to showcase the schoolās programs, to establish additional business and industry partnerships, and to help students develop relationships with potential employers.
āThe Business/Industry Open House provided an opportunity to tour our campus, meet our students and faculty members, and learn more about the college and career standards we have established,ā said Cofield. āOur goal was to strengthen relationships with local industries through advisory council memberships and connections to campus events such as our annual Career Expo/Open House for current and prospective students.ā
SCCCC is a career-technical high school campus that serves grades 10-12. The school offersĀ career-technical courses in Automotive Technology; Agriculture/Landscape Design; Collision Repair Technology; Construction Technology; Design Technology; Cosmetology; Culinary Arts; Healthcare Science; Public Service; Robotics and Automated Manufacturing; and Welding.
The school also offers two programs that allow students to receive all academics on campus ā SUCCESS and CAPs (Career Academy Programs).Ā Students who choose to remain at their home high school for academics can also attend the SCCCC for a two-hour career technical program block as an elective requirement.
