Chelsea Middle School took top honors for the annual Battle of the Books competition for the middle school division. Oak Mountain Middle School finished in second place.
Battle of the Books is a scholars bowl style competition where teams answer questions pertaining to six books chosen for that year. This year the books for the middle school competition included: I Kill the Mockingbird; Brown Girl Dreaming; The Testing; Prisoner of Night & Fog; The Family Romanov: Murder, Rebellion, & the Fall of Imperial Russia; and The Variant.
Sam Tallie from Columbiana Middle School was the overall Individual High Scorer for the competition. Others who were recognized as high scorers for each school were: Mac Turner – Calera Middle; Brantley Avery – Chelsea Middle; Katie Glawson – Helena Middle; Katie Ozley – Montevallo Middle; Zac Sibbitt – Oak Mountain Middle School; and Chloe Layton – Vincent Middle.
