Students at Helena Intermediate School recently raised $4,023.15 to help fourth-grade students Kylie Hosey, who currently undergoing treatments for leukemia. The students raised the money as part of their participation in a special event the “Great Kindness Challenge” which was held the week of January 23 and for “Kylie Hosey Day” at the school.
Helena Intermediate School teachers Cindy Johnston and Ansley Weathers are two of Kylie’s teachers who helped organize the fundraising drive. Students made a donation for lollipops shaped like lips or “kisses” to help Kylie “Kiss Cancer Goodbye.”
“Kiss Cancer Goodbye” was also the theme for special shirts that were printed with an orange ribbon which represents the color for leukemia awareness. The shirts also have #TeamKylie printed on an orange ribbon on the front.
Students from Johnston and Weather’s classes also honored Kylie with a special photo of them forming a ribbon. Banners were also hung throughout the school for students to write special messages to Kylie.
