Board of Education Approves Administrative Positions for Forest Oaks Elementary and Oak Mountain Intermediate

The Shelby County Board of Education approved administrators for both Forest Oaks Elementary and Oak Mountain Intermediate schools at their monthly board meeting, which was held virtually on April 23.

Laura Junkin was approved as the new principal for Oak Mountain Intermediate School. Mrs. Junkin has 18 years of experience in education and most recently served as the assistant principal at Oak Mountain Intermediate School.

She has a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of St Thomas, and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership and an educational specialist degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  Currently, she is enrolled at Samford University to obtain a doctorate in Educational Leadership.

Stevi Sims was approved as the principal for Forest Oaks Elementary School. Sims has over 23 years of experience as an educator and most recently as serving as the interim principal for Forest Oaks Elementary School.

Sims received a bachelor’s degree in Communication Disorders from Auburn University, along with a master’s degree and an education specialist degree in Educational Administration from the University of Montevallo. 

Carlyn Duncan was approved as the assistant principal for Forest Oaks Elementary School. Duncan has over 19 years of experience as an educator and most recently served as the interim assistant principal for Forest Oaks Elementary School.

Duncan received a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama.
