Debbie Horton Named Elementary School Coordinator for Shelby County Schools

Debbie Horton will serve as the new Elementary School Coordinator for the Shelby County School District after being approved for the position by the Board of Education.

Horton had most recently served as Human Resources Supervisor. Prior to that role, she had been principal of Oak Mountain Elementary School since 2011. She has been in education since 1990, beginning with a teaching career in Midfield City Schools.

In 1997, Horton began with Shelby County Schools teaching at Valley Elementary. Prior to becoming principal of Oak Mountain Elementary School, Horton served as Assistant Principal of Valley Elementary School and Valley Intermediate School.

She earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Auburn University, a Master of Art Degree in Elementary Education from UAB, and a Master of Art Degree in Educational Leadership and Administration from UAB.
