The Shelby County Board of Education approved administrators for three schools, including new principals for Helena Elementary and Columbiana Middle and a new assistant principal for Oak Mountain High School.

Genet Holcomb 
Dustin Smith
Genet Holcomb will serve as the new principal for Helena Elementary School. Holcomb has 28 years of experience in education and currently serves as the principal at Calera Elementary School. She has also served as an assistant principal at Helena Intermediate and Inverness Elementary.
She has a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in Elementary Education from the University of Montevallo. Holcomb also received a master’s degree in Educational Administration and an education specialist degree from Samford University.
Dustin Smith will serve as the new principal at Columbiana Middle School. Smith has 10 years of experience in education and currently serves as the assistant principal at Calera Middle School.
Smith earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and English from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in Secondary Education in Science and Instructional Leadership, and an education specialist degree in Instructional Technology from the University of Montevallo.
Ashli Polizos will serve as assistant principal of Oak Mountain High School after previously serving as an administrative assistant. Polizos has 15 years of experience in education.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations from the University of Alabama, a master’s degree in Secondary Social Studies Education from the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and an instructional leadership certification from the University of Montevallo. She will complete an education specialist degree in Instructional Leadership from the University of West Alabama in August. In addition, she achieved National Board Certification in 2011 and renewed in 2021.
