Shelby County’s Education Association and Education Support Professionals Award Scholarships

The Shelby County Education Association and Shelby County Education Support Professionals  presented scholarships during the April 21st Board of Education Meeting.

Kenny Dukes ESP ScholarshipsKenneth Dukes, president of Shelby County Education Support Professionals, presented $250 student scholarships to students who are the children or grandchildren of Shelby County Schools. The scholarships were awarded to Maggie Glover, a senior at Montevallo High School, and Jessica Ferguson, a senior at Cornerstone Christain School. The Shelby County Education Association student scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors who are children or grandchildren of current SCEA members.  The member scholarship is awarded to an SCEA member who is furthering his or her education.  Each scholarship is worth $1,000.

SCEA educators from across the county review the anonymous applications and award the scholarships based on the quality of the essays and letters of recommendation. This year, the three students scholarships were awarded to Julia Michelle Bullock, Karlee Cardwell, and Ashley Rushton.  Bullock, a senior at Pelham High School, is the daughter of Shelby County College and Career Center teacher Michelle Bullock.  Cardwell, a senior at Shelby County High School, is the daughter Elvin Hill Elementary School teacher Sonia Cardwell. Rushton, a senior at Oak Mountain High School, is the daughter of Oak Mountain Intermediate School nurse Tonya Rushton.

The employee scholarship was awarded to Samantha Elaine Baulch, a teacher at Shelby County High School.
