Wheel of Time: The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

My husband has convinced me that I have to read an adult fantasy series called the Wheel of Time. I have read 6 out of the 14 books in the series over the spring and summer.Ā  This journey has truly been eye opening to the difference between YA and adult fantasy writing.Ā  Adult fantasy series writers focus more on world building which leads to a lot of political tension and map building storylines rather than action storylines.Ā  These books have been very hard to slog through. I love the story but I have to force myself to read through information I don’t care about in order to glean one or two sentences about characters I do care about.Ā  I have been pushed into the realm of what I am sure some of you feel like when you are reading.Ā  It isn’t easy and most of the time (about a fourth of the book) isn’t fun.Ā  I am going to finish these books because I am now sucked into the story; but it is going to be a fight to get through them all.

The Wheel of Time turns and Ages come and go, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth returns again. In the Third Age, an Age of Prophecy, the World and Time themselves hang in the balance. What was, what will be, and what is, may yet fall under the Shadow.

When The Two Rivers is attacked by Trollocsā€•a savage tribe of half-men, half-beastsā€• five villagers flee that night into a world they barely imagined, with new dangers waiting in the shadows and in the light.
