i’m not even going to count reading ACT-prep dance music passages

what i did when i wasn’t running in the pouring rain, lightening, and thunder over the hills in mountain brook…

“comic books 101” – nook book – great little book – 280 pages to catch me up on superhero gossip – what i missed from never reading them as a kid – which lead to…

“superman archive: vol. 1” and “batman archive: vol. 1” – i then ordered and got both from north shelby (side note: north shelby library apparently is filled with thousands of comic book volumes) – both books are reprints of the first issues of the action heroes – pretty good reading – superman moreso than batman – but i like superman better anyway – that said, lois continually dumping on clark was funny – all batman did in the original issues was beat up on the mob

“my charmed, tormented life” by jerry west – we read a passage from the book in the fall – NBA superstar, long-time NBA executive talked about how he used basketball to cope with his brother’s death in Korean and with the abuse his father dished out – sad book – good book about the motivating force behind driven individuals

“maphead” by ken jennings – lovely book on the mysteries and wonders of geography – just about as good as his first book “brainiac” – fun to read books by smart people about smart things:) – which, in case the title didn’t make it clear, was about the importance of maps throughout time – and how that might be diminishing nowadays

hope your week of journaling is super

  1. So hey Mr.mayfield. I started to read Catching Fire because I want to finish the series before the movie come out so i can compare them. I read the first book in seventh grade, but I never got to read the second book because every single book was checked out so I decided to wait it out until I had my opportunity.
I got the book, and it took a while for me to catch up on the whole scene of things. Everything started to come back to me in the first few pages because it seemed like the only thing the first 5 pages talked about was the romance between Katniss, Gale, and Peeta, and the whole complications between the berries and the capitol. Whhen I think about it, this book has a lot of different things that are going on, and it is alot to catch up on. So Katniss is out in the woods, waiting for the time to come when she has to come on the Victory Tour which is when she travels through each district and attends special ceremonies, becausse of the winning in the Hunger Games.

  2. We won Saturday.

Monday-I am reading Okay For Now by Gary Schmidt. The Grimm Legacy was good but I’m glad its over. So far in Okay For Now there is an abused boy named Doug living with his brother and parents. He likes his mom but he hates his brother and his dad is always really mean to him. His dad got offered a new job after he got fired from his last one. His new job is in Marysville, New York and Doug was mad that he had to move from famous New York City to “stupid old Marysville”. He didn’t have many friends but now he doesn’t have any. He meets one girl and at first he doesn’t like her but after he thinks about it he starts to accept her. She came back the next week with two Cokes. That’s all until tomorrow.

  4. i am reading the story of anne frank.
when Anne was young, she loved to play outside with her sister Margot. as she got older, the times got harder in Germany.Adolf Hitler was the leader of the Nazis and he blamed the Jewish people for the country’s bad problems. after Anne had lived in an old, secret apartment building for 2 years, she was finally aloud to go outside again. she was told to stay inside and not to talk much during the day.

  5. Monday!! I am reading Fake ID still.. hated being sick:/
    Monday-Author’s Purpose
I think the author’s purpose is to entertain. People now days seem more into mystery! Well… this is a book FULL of mysteries. A real page turner and it is like if you set it down you will miss something! A very great story that we can relate to in ways. In school and some have no dad. We all have a way to relate and understand what she is feeling and going through. It makes it easier to read and comprehend.

One day there was a young girl. She was called by the name of Ann. Ann was only nine and had no parent’s. I would go into the story but it isn’t very pretty. So I am staying away from there. Ann lived with a foster family in Ontiana,AL. She wasn’t exactly happy until one day changed her. Yes! It was him! Her dad had came to get her. They were leaving the foster home when they wrecked!! They both…

  6. Hey I left off on Catching Fire as Katniss must get ready for her tour also known as the Victory Tour. She must get home and relax so she gets all the game caught on her snares and heads home. She stops by her old house by the meadow and changes out into some normal clothes. Now no body lives in her old house because they now live in there house in Victor vilage with her family, Peeta, and Haymitch. Before she goes home she stops by the black market in District 12 also known as the hob and chats, trades and exchanges words with the Peacekeepers that roam ther like Cray and Darius. She then heads back to her house where a blizzard starts to begin and as soon as she walks in, her mother is there to greet her and is using a suspicous tone that says something is goin on. Behind her she sees a guy that looks from the capitol and he takes her to the study room where in the chair there is President Snow.

  8. Ok so hey. I want to do an authors purpose on the last blog i just did and how she found President Snow aiting for her at her house. I think the author did this to really put the reader in suspense, and at the same time, shock. At first I knew this must have been something about the stunt she pulled at the end of the last book with the berries, adn this kind of foreshadows that something good is definitley not going to come out of this, so the reader automatically is launched in to some suspense and action. This book, I think is a lot more complex and more detailed then the first book. The author does a great job by dropping off each chapter with some suspensful event that makes the reader keep reading. I have found my self several times reading and reading until i find my self half way through a book. so hahaha. bye.

  9. The SOAPSTone was hard so today I’m just going to do a regular blog.

Wednesday-After she taught him how to drink a really cold Coke he asked her why she brought it to him. She said that it was because she felt bad for him. Then when he asked why she said because the library didn’t open on any day except Saturday. That made him mad so he just walked home feeling really embarased. This must have been during summer break becuse its hot and it doesn’t mention school. The next time he sees her she says that her dad owns Spicer’s Deli (where she got the Cokes) and that she could probably get him a job there as the new Delivery Boy. He spent all of his free-time trying to get the Arctic Turn right. He didn’t really draw it but he pretended. On his first day as delivery boy he didn’t know the roads. He found out this good system where he asked the costomer where to go with the next person’s food. That’s all for today.

  10. I was going to blog as ‘the girl who must not be named’…. But everyone would guess it was me anyway šŸ™ so on a good note, I’m rereading Catching Fire for the fourth time, which is still epic by the way. But Mafeld helped me with a therapy/conversation about my struggle with abusing the use of the books. We’re all on good terms now. šŸ™‚

    So, Catching Fire….

Mon.- I started at the beginning… And I tell myself ‘you aren’t allowed to skip over any parts’… And i almost kept my promise! I just skipped over the part where Katniss meets the girls in the woods trying to escape from District 7 or 8, I forget. It bored me. It bored me the first time around, so, I can’t stand it the fourth.
Tues.- I think I’ll highlight my favorite parts. First, is when the peacekeepers come to Katniss’s home and she talks about getting Prim’s goat knocked up… haha! It’s so funny, and then Peeta and Haymitch are laughing at her, and I just wished that was how it always was with them…
Wed.- I like the funny and light moments of Catching Fire, and dare I say it’s my favorite of the three. While with most it’s the least favorite… I don’t know why, cause it has the funniest parts. Especially with Finnick, who is swoon worthy šŸ™‚ my second favorite part is when he goes up an asks her if she has any secrets to tell and offers her a sugar cube, and Katniss mimics him to Peeta and it’s sooooo funny!!! *laughs hysterically*
Thurs.- I’m a hopeless romantic, so my favorite parts are also between Katniss and Peeta… When it’s Gale, I just wanna rip Katniss’s face off. Right off. *scowl* I downloaded some Lenny Kravitz music in prep for the movie (he plays Cinna)… And I LOVE Cinna šŸ™‚ but back to Peeta and Katniss šŸ™‚ Peeta is awesome , by the way. And anyone who says otherwise, well, into District Twelves barracks you will go. So when Katniss and Peeta are on the roof before the games it’s so sweet

Alright, I be done for the week. And may the odds be ever in your favor… And Happy Hunger Games!!! And it’s going to be a big big big day šŸ™‚
    Love Effie.

  11. I haven’t really blogged in a while because of internet issues so during that time i wrote a short story im adding more I was just going to use it as Creative (because it is)

The Memories that Changed her Life

Eliza is at the age of 19 right now. She has a job of coaching people at NXS gymnastics and a dance class .So she signs in and on her way to the gym she notices she has this cut on her hand. Nothing to really worry about so, she goes to the bathroom and washes her hands. (Health code regulations) The blood wouldnā€™t come off so she just said in her head ā€œOh probably still red from whatever scratched itā€. Eliza goes into the gym and she has this one student who comes in every other day. She notices that the girl has really gotten talented over the month. Eliza goes into a slight daze then has a flashback of her childhood. It was her first day in dance class. Her step-mom signed her up for it even though Eliza never suggested it. Her step-mom said that her and her mom did it together as a kid and they bonded really well over it and now it was their turn. Eliza didnā€™t hate her step-mom she just wished she could have had her mom. Eliza was only about 7 and in second grade, she wasnā€™t really used for her mom not being there. Her mom died of breast cancer when Eliza was only 5 , but could remember everything about her mom. When Eliza and her step-mom, Violet went into the mother daughter class Eliza didnā€™t want to dance she just couldnā€™t do it with all those other people just staring at her. Violet noticed and said quietly to Eliza ā€œDance like nobody is watchingā€. Eliza couldnā€™t believe that little quote changed her life. Those were one of the most memorable moments for her. On one of the dances at their first mother daughter dance recital the teacher had no knowledge of that Eliza didnā€™t like being in crowds because it didnā€™t seem like it. So before Eliza went onto the stage her teacher said Eliza you have the main role you canā€™t mess up, there is a lot of people depending on you. Eliza still was only 7 she just couldnā€™t handle all that pressure she went on stage and started her solo she was doing so good she smiled really BIG and then BOOM Eliza was snapped back to reality from the same girl as earlier landing a backhand spring.
Her co-worker Ashleigh was waving her hand across Elizaā€™s face. ā€œEliza, are you okay?ā€

ā€œYeah, sorry I zone out every now and thenā€

ā€œOh, well you have to go train that girl over thereā€, said Ashleigh as she pointed to the same talented girl.
Eliza walked over towards the girl and watches her for just a second. Then, screams to the girl ā€œHey, Iā€™m your teacher for todayā€

The girl takes one more flip off of the bar and comes down towards Eliza. She takes out her hand and says ā€œHey, my name is Holly and Iā€™m 12 and Iā€™m guessing your name is Eliza she said as she pointed to Elizaā€™s name tag.

ā€œIā€™ve noticed you a lot here you have really gotten really good hoe long have you been doing gymnastics?ā€

Well, I took gymnastics at my school in second grade and lost a little interest in it over the years. Then in about 5th grade I took cheer and was already thinking about gymnastics over the top and thatā€™s when I started coming here.

  12. Okay here I go! I’m going to knock all my journals out in one day so I don’t have to worry about them any more!

    Monday- Creative (The Dork Diaries)
Okay so there is this little kid and she is like five. She is sorta like Matilda but not quite as inteligant she is absolutly adorable but she has no parents. She goes to school a tiny school in a tiny town for tiny people! My point is she was so used to living in a tiny town that she did not what to do when she got bigger. But she did have a lot of courage and she knew it so one day she stood up to a bigg man. Tune next week to find out what happened.

    Tuesday- Authors Pourpose
I think the author’s pourpose is to entertain. I think that the author of this book is also a really good writer. This girl is being bullied by the mean girl at school. Doesn’t every school have one in books? Well she writes in this diary to tell and vent about things. Although I think that is what all of them are used for! Anyway how it is entertaining is anybody could relate to it. It has all thing middle schools across the wold have! It is a really good book I would recomed it to all middle school girls!

    Wensdsday- Soapstone
    Speaker- Nikki 1st person
Occasion- Every day of middle school
    Audience- Middle school girls
Pourpose- to entertain middle school girls
Subject- Nikki has started a new middle school due to her dad’s job. Nikki find herself at Mackenzie Hollister’s party when every thing goes wrond it all gets blamed on Nikki.
    Tone- Really funny and dramitic!

  13. Thursday- Point of view of Mackenzie (The Dork Diaries)
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww! Every time you talk about that roach it makes me sick! I totally resighned from the dance commitee so she would have total problems. It was probaly the best mean thing I have ever done to her! I we don’t have a dance so she and her possy of freakes will be humilated. If that happened I woul sooo laugh because that woul be sooooooo like funny! She thinks she is better than me and who ever thinks that must be DESTROYED!!!!!!!!!!!! šŸ™‚

  14. Alright,
    Because I’m a horrible person I haven’t blogged at all this week….
    And it’s Thursday….
So I’m going to blog for 20 minutes.
So just today I got done reading the book Divergent by Veronica Roth. It was pretty good. It’s another Dystopian novel… Since that is all people are writing now.
It’s exactly like The Hunger Games.
And there is, Of Course, A FEMALE LEAD!
The main Character’s name is Beatrice. In the book there are different factions that you move into. Her and her family live in Abnegation, Which is for the selfless. Every year when I child turns sixteen they pick which faction they want to go into.
Beatrice and her brother Caleb are about the same age. And they get to pick which faction they want to go into.
Beatrice takes a test which is supposed to illuminate factions. To tell her which ones she can’t go in. But she takes the test and it only illuminates one. She is Divergent.
Which is not a good thing and people could kill her for it.
She ends up going into the faction, Dauntless. Which is for the brave.
She goes through weeks of preparing for being in Dauntless. They only pick 9 people to be accepted into Dauntless and if you don’t make it you are factionless and you live your whole life in poverty.

Beatrice changes her name to Tris. And meets a boy… (Of course there had to be romance) His name is Four… and Tobias….

    They fall in “love”…..

So “Tris” makes it into the Dauntless factinon and she finds out that the people from the faction Erudite are trying to start a war.
Tris’ brother picked Erudite and it is for the smart.
The Erudite team up with the Dauntless and they give all the dauntless a serum… To basically turn them all into zombies to go defeat and kill everyone in Abnegation.

The serum doesn’t work on Tris though because she is Divergent. She basically saved they day.

Her mom and dad got killed and then the story was over… (What a good ending)

    Okay that’s all.
    -Julie

  15. Hey i am going to do my last blog for today, and do an alternate end for the blog i did on tuesday. So Katniss leaves the forest but first she listens for the electrcity to be on the fence. Most the time it’s not, but sometimes it is so she just make sure so she doesn’t get fried into bacon or something. She walks up and hears the hum of the fence. She doesn’t know what to do, so the first thing she can think of is burrow under the fence, but as she begins with a hard stick, she realizes that the ground is way to hard to burrow through. She decides to see if she can find a tree limb that she could climb on and jump over, but there is no snow on the ground to cushion her fall so she would either die or break something that was very vital, so she sat in a tree and tried to hink of an elaborate tree. Meanwhile, President Snow is left waiting at her house and gets fed up so he leaves.

  16. Hey everyone! I have just finished the second book in th Witch and the Wizard series, The Gift.
Is it just me, or are Whit and Wisty weird names? Anyway, I really like Wisty’s character. She’s smart, brave, rebellious, yet caring. But James Patterson put some really twisted stuff in this book. He made the N.O cut the hot drummer boys arms off. That’s a little sick.
If I gave this book an alternate ending, I probably wouldn’t have made thier parents die. I mean, it’s a good idea and all, but they’re hardly involved in any of the books so I think it’s kind of rude to kill them. At least Suszan Collins only killed Prim after we got to know her. Same deal with Sireus Black.
I think that Wisty is alot like Maximum Ride.
    They’re both:
    * caring
    * smart
    * powerful
    * brave
    * not to mention a destiny saving the world

I want to read the next book, but I don’t know what it’s called. Anyone know????

I think Whit is really brave too. I also think he should date Janine. I mean, Celia’s dead right? Where’s dating her going to get him? I really don’t think Wisty should date Byron though. He’s a lying, scheming, meanie! I really hope that the Allgoods can save the Overworld, not to mention the Shadow and Freeland.
    Good luck to them!

  17. Almost done with the week!(:
    Wednesday-Alternate Ending
I stooped reading were they were digging in the basement of the Purvis Place. “We should really get out of here!”,said Brittany. “No!! I have to find out what happened to my mom!”, Chass screamed back. This was really important to her to find out why her mom was running from the cops. Why did she disappear all of the sudden? “There had to be a reason why”, Chass murmured to herself as she exited the hole they were in.
    Thursday- Diary Entry
Ugh! Mom hasn’t came back yet and I am really starting to get worried. This isn’t like her at all! Why is she gone? Why did she just get up and
run away? Why am I still writing in this journal? I guess to get my emotions out without harming someone. Well, I am not going to write what has happened. Not even try. I have tried before and always cry myself to sleep and can’t finish writing.1. You can’t read the paper for the water marks from my tears. 2. I can’t bring myself to do it… I miss her so much! ):
Thankful I have parents and wonderful friends!

  18. hey mr mayfield i am going to blog on the first page of the prologue to chizic so here we go. I think the author wrote this book to show his way through last years season. I think he wrote it because he wants to show he had every thing back in the days because when he switched to auburn and started doing really good at coaching at football. he knows even thou he could’ve not worshiped god but he chose to but i think it’ll be like colt and start out about how he got cam to play for auburn(no money thoughts in mind alabama fans)

  19. mon-after he takes of his suit they get on the island and start looking around. the ship goes away and the humans tell him that it will be back in three days. one of the humans tells the forerunner that the island is responding to him. then they tell him to follow the stone path and where the path ends is wher no human has ever stepped before.

tues- the forerunner thinks to himself for a while and then suddenly a minning ship comes right over his head and doesnt stop. he says that it was probably his parents looking for him and tells the humans that mining ships have the best tracking equipment in the galaxy.

weds- one of the humans (the short one) says that the island is full of tricks and curses. the forerunner thou knows that it is actually technology that keeps the island hidden. then he notices that the islands sand didnt budge at all and knew that if a single human stepped off the path then the sand would go down their throats and bury them alive.

thurs-after foolowing the path he notices some sphnxes -ancient battle armour. he also notices that the sphnxes are here to protect someone. he wonders who would want to be buried on such a disgraceful planet.he follows the path a little more and then steps off of it. he notices a temple and starts running to it.

  20. Hey mr mayfield I am back I’ll do creative writing for ten minutes. Anyways I’ll be at school around 10:30 because I’m sleeping in said Jim as he talked to Jordan on the phone goodnight love you he said as he hung up the phone. Finally he said as he picked up his computer he was ready for his other life which was playing games that involved other people like wars evolved or any thing with weapons so he played for hours and then fell asleep at twelve o’clock. That’s it for today

  21. For my last blog I will do creative.

The training missles are working great. As long as we keep missing they will think that we are firing at them. Along with my brothers I am trying to kidnap the President of America and trade him for our father who is in a prison for terrorism. Our plan is to fire a training missle at Marine 1, forcing it to make a emergency landing in the nearest field. We will be waiting there. When they land we will open up fire. Since the agents are trained to protect the President. That way we won’t hit him when we fire. I will come up from behind and grab the President. When they point their guns at me I will point mine at the President to avoid getting shot. That’s all for this week.

  22. Song of today is California by Hollywood Undead. Don Quixote is about a guy in an olde-fashioned midlife crisis. He read some (poorly-written) books on knights, said,”Pfft. I could do that,” and grabs some old armour of his great grandfather’s. He gets his old horse and names it Rosinante and chooses a random girl on the streets to be his mistress. Don sets off in that direction over there, and rides until he spies an inn. His addled mind percieves this as a castle and waits for someone to alert the others by blowing a horn. Luckliy, a shepherd blew his horn to attract the sheep, and Don enters. He requests a room, some fish and bread, and annoys everyone by referring to them as of cowardly nature or royalty. He begs the inn-keeper to knight him, which the inn keeper gives in to to shut Don up. Don goes outside and attacks two random workers, then rides off for adventure. He sees someone tied to a tree being whipped and stops, asking why. The whipper explains that the boy-shepherd loses sheep everyday. Don orders him to untie the boy and pay him, lest he face the wrath of Don Quixote. Don rides off, and the boy is whipped more. Don meets a caravan and brandishes his lance, threatening them lest they admit that none is more perfect than Empress of La Mancha, the peerless Dulcinea del Toboso (his mistress). One merchant asks for a picture. Don charges him, only to fall and break his lance. The merchant picks up the lance and whips Don with it until his arm wears out. Then they continue on, leaving Don brusied and bleeding. Don lays there reciting epic poems until a neighbor rescues him and sends him home, where he refuses to say anything but that he fell while fighting giants. As Don sleeps, the barber and curate sneak in and throw the chivalry books out of the window to be burned. When Don wakes up, he rages until friends hold him into bed while the barber and curate burn the books and wall up the door to his study. The housekeeper is instructed to tell Don that a fiery conjurer on a dragon took the entire study. Don belives this, then enlists a peasant to be his squire. The next day, they both ride out this way, until they find a field of windmills. Don sees giants and attacks them. He stabs his lance into one. . . and goes flying. Don believes that the conjuror changed the giants into windmills. Yup, he’s that messed up. They ride until they see a shack belonging to the herders. The idea of sleeping here revolts the squire, Sancho, yet Don sees it as wonderful. Sancho sleeps like a dead log, but Don meditates on his mistress. A carridge arrives in the morning, and while Don adresses the lady inside, begging her to report to his mistress, Sancho gets beaten up by the muleteers. A man from Biscay attacks Don and cuts off his ear. Ow. That’s four, I’m going to sleep.

  23. Monday

This week Iā€™m blogging about The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman. It is by Brian Jaques, the author of the Redwall series. Anywho, I know that he wrote this to entertain the reader. I pretty sure anyways. I think he wrote this to entertain, but he used facts about the countries and myths of the Flying Dutchman to an advantage, because he twists it to a new point of view of a never-before-heard-of-character. At the same time though he creates the image a huge ship where the boy is put in the galley.

    Tuesday

Wondering what would have happened if Neb would have escaped in Denmark?
My guess is that he would have found the black lab and went to a bench and hid until the pirates were gone. Then he would have made a home and been one of those beggars who sits on the corner of the block in New York. Or maybe if he didnā€™t like the dog anymore ā€¦ sell the poor black lab. I mean thatā€™s what I would have to do if I were him, but Iā€™m not so that is all his discision. That is what I think would have happened to Neb if he escaped the ship in Denmark.

    Wednesday

After a lot of thought The Castaways of the Flying Dutchman is like the beginning of Peter and the Starcatchers. They both have characters get on ships. Neb got on because he was running from his stepbrothers and one of them hit him and he fell into the ice cold water, then all of a sudden a stringy rope hits his head and he uses all his strength to climb onboard. In the other book orphans get onboard because the are forced to be slaves to an evil king overseas. Well, I mean, they have \the same ideas just different plots.

    Thursday

So far the captain of the Flying Dutchmanis making a deal with a chinease merchant who is offering FOUR emeralds for him to deliver emeralds to other high-paying people. On another POV a boy is running from his stepbrothers and runs into a dead-end. His stepbrothers or the ocean?!?!?!?!?!? Which is worse?!?!?!? Well, he doesnā€™t have a choice because one of his stepbrothers cuffs (hits) him in the jaw and falls into the freezing cold ocean shivering and alone.

  24. My journals for this week are the Hunger Games story, again this week. This is a good story so far.

    The Unknown Man
    Beep. Beep. Beep. Beep.
I open my eyes and see white. Everything is white. Bright white.
    Where am I?
I have no idea how I got here, wherever here is.
    Who am I?
I have no memory of anything. My vision slowly fades back to normal and I take in my surroundings. I seem to be in a hospital room. The floor is white. The ceiling is white. The walls are white. The door is the only thing not white except for the monitor Iā€™m hooked up to. I try to stand up and immediately fall back on to the bed. My legs wonā€™t work. The pins and needles in them tell me that my legs have fallen asleep. I shake them to get the feeling back and then stand up.
I walk over to the door and take a look at it. It seems to have an electric scanner on the front. I stick my hand to it and it opens. I walk out and look down around. Iā€™m at the end (or beginning) of a long hallway. To my left is a big door and next to it is a small closet full of clothes. Iā€™m still in a hospital gown, so I go in and get a pair of jeans and a short sleeve shirt to put on. I walk over to the door and push open the door and walk outside.
I walk out into a cold and dreary world. I see a newspaper stand and go to check the date. Today is January 20, 2027. The date just doesnā€™t seem right. I ask the guy running the stands if the date is right. He looks up, sees my face, and faints, falling down on the ground. People come running. I donā€™t want to draw attention to myself, so I run around the corner of the street to find a place to hide. What I see amazes me.
Huge skyscrapers tower above me. Millions of people walk in straight lines down streets of marble spotted with red paint. I look around to see if I can figure out why the spots are there, and my heart stops cold. Guards patrol sidewalks with machine guns in their hands. If one person does so much as stumble, the guards shoot them dead. Itā€™s horrific. Who letā€™s this happen!?
I take a look at my surroundings to keep from getting sick. This world is worse than any nightmare. I see a memorial of sort in the middle of the street so I walk over to look at it.
Itā€™s shaped like a war memorial, obelisk-shaped and twenty feet tall. Names run down all four sides of the obelisk, long lists of names. I scan the names, and one of them makes me stop. It just gives me a creepy feeling, like dĆ©jĆ  vu. Kirk Waterford. The name is set away from the other names and is more ornately carved into the stone followed by the words:ā€Our valiant leader, a man with no boundaries but death.ā€ Could this be my name? At the bottom of one side, little words are inscribed into the monument; ā€œWe remember those who died in honor. December 21, 2012.ā€ What does this mean?
ā€œHey! There he is!!ā€ a voice behind me cries out. I turn around and see a short, chubby man in a business suit pointing and yelling at me. His yelling attracts other people and they come to help. I take off running. I have a feeling that Iā€™m supposed to be one of those people walking down the streets in line, and I do not want to be a part of thatā€¦ that stomach churning sickness.
I see a little alleyway up ahead so I run that way and hide in it. All of the people come running by without seeing me, so I know Iā€™m safe, or at least for now. I walk down the alley to see if I can find a shelter to stay in because it is getting dark and cold. I see an abandoned building and pry open the boarded-up door. I light a fire in the little stove of an apartment that lookā€™s like no one has lived there in years. I dig around for a blanket and pillow, and then I curl up next to the stove and fall asleep.
ā€œKirrrkkā€¦ Kirrrrkā€¦ Kirrrrkā€¦ā€ I wake up to hearing a name over and over. It sounds like Kirk ; the name that I think is mine. I look out the window and see a young woman standing down there saying my name over and over. She looks about my age. I motion for her to come in and then I go grab a kitchen knife and stick it down my boot just in case sheā€™s trying to kill me. A knock at the door tells me that sheā€™s here. This should be interesting…
