We talked about the types of bonding (ionic, covalent and metallic) and went over the relationships on the Periodic Table. It is vital that they understand the electron configuration and notes to be able to determine bond type.
Base Unit Notes and Density
We completed the notes on Base Units of SI, discussed density and what it is, then calculated Density word problems.
Minerals
We completed the information on the nucleus of atoms, isotopes, mass number and how to determine the information from the Periodic Table. No homework for the weekend.
9-11 Video
We talked about the events that led up to and during 9-11-01. We then viewed a short 15 min. presentation from the internet that showed pictures to the event w/music. We finished with a short writing on the personal feelings and events of that day.
9-11
We wrote a 5 paragraph essay on the events of 9-11. Afterwards, viewed a 12 min. video clip on the events of 9-11 in 2001.
Conversions Test
We took the English Conversions Test in class. We will view the 9-11 Video tomorrow. Then begin the Base Unit notes and Density WPWS.
Minerals
Today, we began the notes on "Minerals" and how they are formed in rocks. We began by introducing the Periodic Table and elements. The Review Questions were turned in from homework for a grade.
SI Base Unit Notes
Today, we introduced the Metric System (SI), its base units, symbols, and prefixes. We also talked about volume, mass, and temperature. They were reminded of the English Conversions Test on tomorrow. They must memorize the common conversions, and the process and have a calculator tomorrow.
Minerals Review Questions
Students finished the Minerals Review Questions during class or for homework.
English Conversions
Today, we worked several practice problems from English Conversions. We displayed several common English conversions and then began the English Conversions WS. If they did not finish the English Conversions WS, they were to finish it for homework.
