Students today drew pictures to help determine the zones of accumulation and wastage in a glacier. We also drew pictures of cirques, horns, and valley glaciers to help see how glaciers change landscapes. Tomorrow you need your colored pencils/markers again as we finish the drawings.
Drawing Atoms
Students learned how to determine the electron configuration for atoms 1-19 on the Periodic Table. We also learned the difference in groups and periods and atomic number, atomic mass, and mass number.
Cirques, Kettles and Glacial Till
Today, we learned how to classify glacial debris and the locations of the glacial debris types. Also, the names of the items in the zone of wastage were learned.
Atomic Structure
Today, we learned how to determine the number of protons, neutrons and electrons in an atom. We learned how to determine atomic number and mass number. We also determined the difference in groups and periods. Today, they completed the Atomic Structure WS during school.
Glaciers & their Characteristics
Factors in glacial erosion, types of glacial erosion and the effects that glaciers have on the landscape were discussed and shown on a powerpoint for this chapter. More notes to come from the powerpoint.
Element Symbols
We covered the notes on the Chemical Symbols of the Periodic Table. Students were then given a Worksheet to complete that asked them to write the Chemical Symbols for 100 elements. Learning to write the chemical symbols correctly is the main goal, as well as becoming familiar with uncommon symbols.
Ice Flows
We continued the discussions and notes from the Glaciers section of the chapter. We discussed Ice Flows, the 2 ways glaciers move and the effects that glaciers have on the landscape.
Scientists of the Atomic Theory
Today, we completed the last of the scientists who developed the Atomic Theory. We began to talk about the parts of an atom, the locations of electrons and The Periodic Table.
Glaciers, Desert and Wind
Today, we briefly discussed our ideas of Glaciers, Desert and where wind comes from before beginning the notes on the current chapter.
Atoms & the Periodic Table
Today we started listing the scientists who contributed to the Atomic Theory in our weather shortened class periods.
