Students learned how to write chemical forumlas w/the Transition metals or Transition Elements. They also were taught how to name compounds w/Transition metals on two worksheets. All were due for class before 8th period today. They were also warned of the impending PI (Polyatomic Ions) Test on Thursday and Friday.
Chemical Bonding
Today, we explained the use of Roman Numerals and parenthesis in name ionic compounds w/Transition elements. We wrote the formulas for transition elements on a worksheet.
Chemical Bonding
Today, we completed a worksheet called "Writing Ionic Formulas" to review what we learned yesterday. We finished the class learning how to write compounds w/Polyvalent Compounds and name the compounds involving Transition Metals.
Chemical Bonding
Today, we learned how to determine oxidation numbers from notes on a powerpoint. Then we used the oxidation numbers to write chemical formulas for Ionic Compounds. We completed a Bonding and Chemical Formula worksheet in class to help write Ionic Formulas.
Chemical Bonding
Today, we learned how to name Ionic Compounds. We emphasized how to determine valence electrons, group numbers, period numbers and metal/nonmetals. Tomorrow we will learn how to write the chemical formulas for ionic compounds.
Chemical Bonding
Students were shown a powerpoint to take notes on the types of chemical bonds, valence electrons and how to determine the number of valence electrons. Also, the number of assignments on this chapter were discussed.
Chemical Bonding
Today, we spent time reading the chapter on Chemical Bonding individually. Each person answered the Review Questions worksheet during class worth 60 pts. They were all taken up during class. Everyone also got their Chemical Bonding Vocabulary, Elements & Properties Voc. Test and Chapter Test returned to add to their grade sheets.
Elements & Properties
Today, we review from the website, www.gpscience.com and then took the Chapter test on Elements and Properties. All students were to complete the vocabulary for the next chapter, Chemical Bonding and have it turned in by the beginning of 8th period.
Elements & Their Properties
Today, we completed the final slides on the powerpoint for Elements & their Properties. We then began the Element & Properties Chapter Review from their textbook which was due before 8th period. We also took the Element and Properties Vocabulary Test. All students were told to have a pencil for the Element & Properties test tomorrow.
Elements & Properties
Today, we discussed the characteristics of Groups 3-12, 17, and 18. We also mentioned uses for several of the elements in the groups. A vocabulary test is scheduled for tomorrow and chapter test Thursday.
