OMMS Sixth Grade Parents and Students:
In response to the announcement regarding the cancellation of the Sixth Grade Orientation on Wednesday, I would like to clarify that the decision was made based upon the SCS Re-opening Plan that was released August 6th.
Fortunately, Sheryl Jones, the 6th grade administrator, and the teachers have devised a new method that will provide a thorough orientation and introduction to Oak Mountain Middle School for the rising 6th grade students on Thursday (A-J) and Friday (K-Z). With that being said, the teachers have divided up transitional topics they will discuss with students by subject areas, with the science teachers taking new students on a guided tour of the building.
Furthermore, to assure students are comfortable as they exit buses and cars when they enter the building, we will have administrators and other staff at doorways to greet students as they enter the building at both the carpool and bus entrances to direct them to their first class of the morning. The bottom line is we have an orientation method that will provide a smooth transition for our rising 6th grade students as we welcome them to the place that will be their school the next three years.
Again, I apologize we are unable to have the orientation before school begins. Fortunately, the activities planned for Thursday and Friday will provide the students with everything they need. Meanwhile, we will move forward with the goal of providing the best instruction and most effective transitional practices possible to make their experiences the best possible.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Sincerely,
Larry Haynes, Ed. D
Principal
