From OMMS PTO:  Teacher Appreciation Week is coming up May 6-10.   Please encourage your child to do something special for their teachers on the corresponding days below. It can be a note, a flower, school supplies, etc. Any sentiment will be great! This is just a small way to let our teachers know they are appreciated.

8th Grade students brought home a “Course Verification Sheet” from the high school counselors.  Return the corrected/changed form to the 8th grade counselor, Mrs. Butz by Friday, April 19, 2019.  ONLY IF you have change(s) to be sent to the high school counselors do you need to turn this form back in to the counseling/main office.

COME OUT AND SUPPORT KIWANIS PANCAKE BREAKFAST ON SATURDAY- APRIL 27th The Kiwanis Club of Indian Springs Village is raising money to provide Chromebooks for our Oak Mountain schools. Saturday • 4/27 • 7AM-Noon • Oak Mountain Middle School. Face painting for the Kids, Great Door Prizes, and Performances by Youth Organizations. Dance team practices are cancelled for this week! Practice will resume on Tuesday, April 23rd. 

FCA will meet tomorrow morning at 7:15 in the Sports Building.

Any 6th or 7th grader interested in being on the JUNA team next year should pick up an application in A17. Applications are due next by Wednesday, April 24th. 

Any 6th or 7th grader interested in running for an SGA officer position should pick up an application in A17. Applications are due by next Thursday, April 25th. 

Yearbooks will be given out during PE May 17th. An updated yearbook list will be posted in the cafeteria. If your name is not on the list you do not have a yearbook reserved. We did order a limited number of additional copies. We sold out last year. You may bring a payment of $40 payable to OMMS to be placed on a waiting list on a first come first served basis. Look at the list BEFORE bringing in a payment. Be sure to include student’s name on the payment. The office will also have a list of who has a book. Final layaway payment of $20 is due by the end of April. 

Registration for Art Camp with Mr. Cecil is now open. Camp dates are June 3-7th or June 10-14th from 9-12. Please see Mr. Cecil for registration form. Support OMMS by washing your car at Blue Rain Car Wash. Tell the cashier you want to support the OMMS fundraiser. The code is “OMMS”. Proceeds from car washes and other services at Blue Rain CarWash go to support OMMS. Sponsored by OMMS FBLA. 

Science Club members going white water rafting must pay by tomorrow. 

Wishing you had ordered some OM socks now that you have seen them? If so, stop by the front office. A limited number of socks are available for sale with Mrs. Whitt. $12 while supplies last. 

7th graders- Peer Mediator applications are due tomorrow to Ms. Turpen. Interviews will be held on Monday, April 22nd during 2nd and 3rd periods. 

Lots of items in lost and found. All items that are not claimed this week will be donated to a local charity at the end of the day, Friday, April 19th. 

Hangout Fest end of the year gala tug of war team registration forms are in the front office. First 16 teams to register will have a spot in the tournament. Sign up today! 

Kick off your Holiday weekend and treat yourself after your first week of testing with a BOOSTER CANDY BOOST! This Friday, April 19th, ONLY during advisory. We will have lots to choose from, all just $1, and MORE, MORE, MORE than our last boost! Of course it supports your athletic programs, so stock up for the movies this weekend and share with friends. This Friday is the perfect excuse for a Booster Candy Boost! 

6th grade students are reminded that Friday is the 1950’s Dress Up Day.

Tryouts for the middle school summer Oak Mountain Middle School girls’ basketball program will be held on May 13th-16th, 6th & 7th graders interested in trying out for the program should contact Coach Noel during their physical education class, additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for basketball must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached on information sheet). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max in order to tryout will be Monday, May 6th. Any questions, contact jnoel@shelbyed.org

Tryouts for the middle school summer Oak Mountain Middle School boys’ basketball program will be held on April 28 through May 1st. 6th & 7th graders interested in trying out for the program should contact Coach Binkley either during their physical education class or by sending an email to rbinkley@shelbyed.org. Additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for basketball must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max in order to tryout will be Thursday, April 25th. Informational handouts will be available for students to pick up on Monday, April 8th. If you have any questions please contact Coach Binkley. 

Students signed up for Cross Country must have DragonFly Max requirements completed to 100% to be eligible for tryouts. Please email cwood@shelbyed.org with any questions. 

8th grade girls: Interested in trying out for OMHS volleyball? You must have a current physical on the revised 2018 form uploaded to DragonFly. The DragonFly code for OMHS is TGTNMC. You must also fill out the Google form on the OMMS volleyball blog, indicating your intent to tryout. Tryouts are May 6-10. 

Anyone interested in playing freshmen football there will be a meeting on Monday, April 29th at 7pm in the OMHS PAC. If you have any questions please email OMHSFootballnews@gmail.com

Academic Partners would like to invite you to join us for our next meeting Thursday, April 18 at 8:15 a.m. We will be holding elections for the 2019-2020 school year. We will also be reviewing plans for the pre-packaged school supply sale which is our biggest fundraiser for the year. Academic Partners is a division of the PTO dedicated to enhancing academics in the classroom. Please consider joining us and getting involved!!!!

¡        Check the courses listed carefully.  If any corrections or changes need to be made to the courses you selected for 9th grade, write the correction or change on the bottom half of the sheet. Keep in mind that you, your parents, and teacher (if applicable) must sign the corrected form.

¡        This is NOT a schedule and it does not guarantee you will receive these courses in 9th grade.

This confirms to high school counselors that they have input your course request correctly and that you are confirming what you want to take at OMHS in 9th grade.

They have groups for ages 4-18 and will feature 2-3 clinics a week over the summer, as well as, two junior tennis camps. 7TH graders interested in helping others through conflict resolution should pick up a Peer Mediator application from Ms. Turpen in D-9, Mrs. McKinnon in G- 8 or the front office. Applications are due April 18th and interviews will be on Monday, April 22nd. 

If you eat breakfast this week, you could be eligible to win a full box of Lucky Charms. Ask for details in the cafeteria. 

Choreography clinics will be Monday and Tuesday, April 15 & 16, for students who are planning to audition for Show Choir. Clinics will be held in the choir room from 3:00 – 4:30 both days.

Tryouts for the middle school summer Oak Mountain Middle School girls’ basketball program will be held on May 13th-16th, 6th & 7th graders interested in trying out for the program should contact Coach Noel during their physical education class, additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for basketball must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached on information sheet). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max in order to tryout will be Monday, May 6th. Any questions, contact jnoel@shelbyed.org

Boys and girls Cross Country tryouts will be May 6th and 7th, with a parent meeting on May 8th. Players must be signed up by April 12. All requirements should be completed through DragonflyMax prior to tryouts. Stop by room A6 to sign up or contact Coach Wood (cwood@shelbyed.org) for more information. 

Volleyball – In order to try out, ALL paperwork must be turned in/uploaded by April 10. NO EXCEPTIONS. Directions for using DragonFly Max are on the blog. Don’t forget to fill out the google form on the blog. 

Wednesday, Apr. 10 is the deadline to sign up for spring football. Signups are completed via the Google Form. Additionally, all AHSAA paperwork must be completed through DragonFly Max by April 10 as well. These are two separate requirements for participation. There will be a mandatory-for-participation parent meeting on Thursday, Apr. 11th at 5:30 in the OMMS cafeteria. At least one parent must attend. 

Inverness Summer Tennis Clinics and Camps – The Inverness Junior Tennis Academy will begin their summer schedule soon. They have groups for ages 4-18 and will feature 2-3 clinics a week over the summer, as well as, two junior tennis camps. Winterguard tryouts packets are available in room G-8 for students that are interested. Tryouts will be held April 15-18. 

Students if you have old soccer gear – cleats, jerseys, socks, etc. please bring to school starting next week for a soccer drive for Cambodian children. There will be an area for collection on the lunchroom stage. 

Science Club’s last regular meeting of the year will be today after school until 4:30. We will make tie-dye t-shirts and receive information for the white water rafting trip in May. 

Yearbooks will be given out during PE May 17th. An updated yearbook list will be posted in the cafeteria. If your name is not on the list you do not have a yearbook reserved. The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max (please do not select “My School Will Complete This Requirement”) in order to participate in spring football is April 10. There is a required-to-participate parent meeting on April 11 at 5:30pm in the cafeteria.
