Winterguard tryouts packets are available in room G-8 for students that are interested. Tryouts will be held April 15-18. 

Students if you have old soccer gear – cleats, jerseys, socks, etc. please bring to school starting next week for a soccer drive for Cambodian children. There will be an area for collection on the lunchroom stage. 

Science Club’s next and last regular meeting of the year will be Monday, April 8 after school until 4:30. We will make tie-dye t-shirts and receive information for the white water rafting trip in May. 

Yearbooks will be given out during PE May 17th. An updated yearbook list will be posted in the cafeteria. If your name is not on the list you do not have a yearbook reserved. We did order a limited number of additional copies. We sold out last year. You may bring a payment of $40 payable to OMMS to be placed on a waiting list on a first come first served basis. Look at the list BEFORE bringing in a payment. Be sure to include student’s name on the payment. The office will also have a list of who has a book. Final layaway payment of $20 is due by the end of April. 

Any student that is interested in being a part of the show choir CREW next school year, please go by and see Mrs. Graddy in the choir room this week. 

Anyone that turned in a Broadcast application needs to sign up for an interview next week! The signup sheet is outside the Broadcast room (B-4). 

Registration for Art Camp with Mr. Cecil is now open. Camp dates are June 3-7th or June 10-14th from 9-12. Please see Mr. Cecil for registration form. Act soon as space is limited to 15 students per week. Forms can also be downloaded from Mr. Cecil’s blog at https://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/acecil/2019/04/03/art-camp-2019/

Students who are auditioning for Show Choir— be sure to turn in your forms to Mrs. Graddy, and sign up for an audition time on the choir website as soon as possible. The choreography clinics are April 15 & 16 after school. 

Support OMMS by washing your car at Blue Rain Car Wash. Tell the cashier you want to support the OMMS fundraiser. The code is “OMMS”. Proceeds from car washes and other services at Blue Rain CarWash go to support OMMS. Sponsored by OMMS FBLA. 

Ms. Turpen’s students don’t forget to bring $8 Monday for an Ender’s Game book.

Good luck to our softball team as they begin Metro tournament play today at Trussville sports complex at 5:30pm. 

Tryouts for the middle school summer Oak Mountain Middle School boys’ basketball program will be held on April 28 through May 1st. 6th & 7th graders interested in trying out for the program should contact Coach Binkley either during their physical education class or by sending an email to rbinkley@shelbyed.org. Additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for basketball must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max in order to tryout will be Thursday, April 25th. Informational handouts will be available for students to pick up on Monday, April 8th. If you have any questions please contact Coach Binkley. 

Boys and girls Cross Country tryouts will be May 6th and 7th, with a parent meeting on May 8th. Players must be signed up by April 12. All requirements should be completed through DragonflyMax prior to tryouts. Stop by room A6 to sign up or contact Coach Wood (cwood@shelbyed.org) for more information. 

Volleyball – In order to try out, ALL paperwork must be turned in/uploaded by April 10. NO EXCEPTIONS. Directions for using DragonFly Max are on the blog. Don’t forget to fill out the google form on the blog. 

6th and 7th graders interested in spring football must sign up using their grade level’s respective Google Form (6th graders sign up using 7th grade football and 7th graders sign up using 8th grade football). Additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for spring football must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max (please do not select “My School Will Complete This Requirement”) in order to participate in spring football is April 10. Congratulations to our baseball team in their doubleheader wins over Homewood yesterday 7-1, on a 1 hitter by Matthew H. and 5-0 in the second game on a 2 hitter by Gabe W.  Baseball game for today has been cancelled.

Students it is very important that you not leave your belongings in the hallways. This includes, sports bags, electronic devices, backpacks, etc. Please use your lockers or get permission from a sports coach to leave your bags in their classroom. Items should never be left in the hallway.

April 1 Announcements

The Oak Mountain High School Mountain Bike Team competed in their first race of the 2019 season last weekend at the Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, AL. Over 500 riders from across the state were competing.  Our team had a strong weekend, with 2 riders on the podium, 10 riders earning top 10 finishes, and 15 riders in the top 15, enabling our team to win 3rd place overall in Division 1 (large school teams).

MS Girls:
Emma M finished 8th in 8th Grade Girls.
Jessica T finished 11th in 7th Grade Girls.

MS Boys:
Ben W finished 7th in 8th grade Boys A.
Gray R finished 13th in 8th grade Boys A.
Sam C finished 15th in 8th grade Boys A.
Dylan D finished 22nd in 8th Grade Boys A.

Owen R was on the podium with 1st place in 7th Grade Boys B.
Ryan K finished 7th in 6th Grade Boys A.
Lawson L finished 8th in 6th Grade Boys B.
Addison W finished 12th in 6th Grade Boys B.

Congratulations to all of our riders and coaches on a great start to our 5th season!

Have a wonderful Spring Break!!

Medication needed for the Band/Choir Spring Trip must be turned in to Mrs. Stone by Wednesday, April 3rd.

Please remember that students are not allowed to dismiss from cars in the morning until 7:00 or until an adult is present at the carpool line.

Students it is very important that you not leave your belongings in the hallways. This includes, sports bags, electronic devices, backpacks, etc. Please use your lockers or get permission from a sports coach to leave your bags in their classroom. Items should never be left in the hallway.

Students who placed a yearbook on layaway are reminded your final payment of $20.00 is due by the end of April. Make payable to OMMS, and include student’s name on payment.

Anyone interested in traveling to Germany & Bavaria in June 2020 email Mrs. Kennedy at jkennedy@shelbyed.org for details.

Winterguard tryouts packets are available in room G-8 for students that are interested. Tryouts will be held April 15-18.

Students if you have old soccer gear – cleats, jerseys, socks, etc. please bring to school starting next week for a soccer drive for Cambodian children. There will be an area for collection on the lunchroom stage.

Any student wanting to audition for Show Choir should see Mrs. Graddy for an information sheet.

Science Club’s next and last regular meeting of the year will be April 8 after school until 4:30. We will make tie-dye t-shirts and receive information for the white water rafting trip in May.

Good luck to our baseball team vs. Helena tonight @ Thompson at 6:30 and throughout the Thompson spring break tournament.

Boys and girls Cross Country signups will begin after Spring Break. Tryouts will be May 6th and 7th, with a parent meeting on May 8th. Players must be signed up by April 12. All requirements should be completed through DragonflyMax prior to tryouts. Stop by room A6 or contact Coach Wood (cwood@shelbyed.org) for more information.

Volleyball – In order to try out, ALL paperwork must be turned in/uploaded by April 10. NO EXCEPTIONS. Directions for using DragonFly Max are on the blog. Don’t forget to fill out the google form on the blog.

6th and 7th graders interested in spring football must sign up using their grade level’s respective Google Form (6th graders sign up using 7th grade football and 7th graders sign up using 8th grade football). Additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for spring football must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max (please do not select “My School Will Complete This Requirement”) in order to participate in spring football is April 10. March 21 Announcements

Please remember when your student is absent you have three (3) school days from the time that he/she returns to send in a written excuse.  Please also remember to include your student’s full name, written legibly, in order for it to be correctly recorded to your student.  If a student needs to be absent and it is known in advance, please turn in a pre-planned absence form 10 days prior to the absence for approval.

Changes in bus transportation will only be approved for emergency purposes.  Please send in transportation notes, including the reason for the change, 24 hours in advance.

Who’s ready for a BOOSTER Candy BOOST? Today during advisory only, our Athletic Boosters will be selling candy for only $1 each! All of your sour favorites and few sweet treats too! Look out for our Booster Candy Carts rolling down the halls and get your candy before your favorites are gone!
