March 11 Announcements

In an effort to keep our students healthy and our school free from germs, we are in need of hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray, disinfectant wipes, as well as, facial tissues.  These items may be dropped off at the front office.  We appreciate your help and all of the supplies that have been received.

Girl Talk will meet on Thursday, March 12th until 4:30 pm.

Water bottles should be kept in lockers and not taken in the hallways to classrooms.

Spring pictures will be taken during PE classes on Wednesday, March 18th.

Science Club will meet on Tuesday, March 17th from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm.

Book Olympiad book jacket designs are due at practice on Thursday.

Track practice cancelled today.

6th and 7th grade girls interested in trying out for the OMMS volleyball teams for 2020 should sign up with Coach Gunnels (A-21) or Coach Brown (C-10).  Tryouts are April 6-9. All requirements must be met on DragonFly and all paperwork turned in by Friday, April 3 – ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS.  All information is on the volleyball blog. 

Students interested in signing up for football should go to the OMMS Football website, https://podcasts.shelbyed.k12.al.us/omms-football/ to sign-up and register by March 18, 2020.  Parent meeting will be Thursday, March 19th at 6pm in the cafeteria.

Important announcement from Coach Blight, OMHS Girls Soccer coach:  Eagle nation, tomorrow the Girls soccer teams will host Vestavia with JV at 5pm and the Varsity girls at 7pm. Our #2 ranked varsity girls are not just looking to beat the number one team in Alabama, but also the national champions who are undefeated the past 2 years. Students get in for free. Please come out and fill the fence and give us a huge home field advantage.

We also have some very special guests lined up to speak on the panel.  The event will take place at the Alabama Workforce Training Center (3500 6th Ave. S. Birmingham, AL 35222) from 5:30-8:30pm next Tuesday, March 10th. If any 8th graders would like a Broadcast Application for OMHS, please stop by Ms. Salmon’s room (D4). Also if you have already picked one up, please return it to Ms. Salmon as soon as possible. 

OMMS Media Center March Madness brackets and voting are due today at 3pm! Make sure to turn in bracket in assignment on Google Classroom to be entered into the competition!

If you are a student that plays a sport at OMHS, please send a picture to Mrs. Thomas at v3thomas@shelbyed.org of your OMMS group, including names of all students pictured from left to right or set up a time BEFORE Friday 3/6 with Mrs. Thomas to take a picture during advisory.

March 4 Announcements

In an effort to keep our students healthy and our school free from germs, we are in need of hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray, disinfectant wipes, as well as, facial tissues.  These items may be dropped off at the front office.  We appreciate your help and all of the supplies that have been received.

If any 8th graders would like a Broadcast Application for OMHS, please stop by Ms. Salmon’s room (D4). Also if you have already picked one up, please return it to Ms. Salmon as soon as possible. 

6th and 7th grade girls interested in trying out for the OMMS volleyball teams for 2020 should sign up with Coach Gunnels (A-21) or Coach Brown (C-10).  Tryouts are April 6-9. All requirements must be met on DragonFly and all paperwork turned in by Friday, April 3 – ABSOLUTELY NO EXCEPTIONS.  All information is on the volleyball blog. 

Book Olympiad practices tomorrow from 3-4 p.m. Pick up at door #4.OMMS Media Center March Madness brackets and voting are due Friday at 3pm! Make sure to turn in bracket in assignment on Google Classroom to be entered into the competition!

If you are a student that plays a sport at OMHS, please send a picture to Mrs. Thomas at v3thomas@shelbyed.org of your OMMS group, including names of all students pictured from left to right or set up a time BEFORE Friday 3/6 with Mrs. Thomas to take a picture during advisory.

Free Winter guard clinic for anyone who wants to try out for middle school or high school guard on March 7th at OMHS from 9:30am-12:00 pm.

OMMS PTO is looking for businesses to sponsor our school!  For $250, your company logo will be featured on the OMMS Life Facebook page (which has over 900 followers!) all year long and your company information will be distributed in a school-wide list serve email.  Our partnership allows for extremely targeted advertising to almost 1,100 students and their families!  Please turn in the attached form and your donation to the front office to show your support of OMMS students and teachers!

Registration for the Oak Mountain High School Color Run is now open at www.oakmountaincolorrun.com. The date is March 7 at Oak Mountain State Park. All proceeds will benefit the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB. Help us pass the $100,000 mark raised by supporting and signing up this year!

PowerUP: It’s a Mother-Daughter Thing is next Tuesday, March 10th! This event invites 6th-12th grade girls and their parent or guardian to learn about careers in construction. If you haven’t signed up already, now is your chance! This year will be the 5th anniversary of the event and we have 30 vendors and higher education/training providers signed up to exhibit! We also have some very special guests lined up to speak on the panel.

The event will take place at the Alabama Workforce Training Center (3500 6th Ave. S. Birmingham, AL 35222) from 5:30-8:30pm next Tuesday, March 10th. Dinner and refreshments will be provided!

Join us for March Madness as we vote to see which book will win!  See your ELA teacher, Mrs. Collins, or Mrs. Howton for the code to join in on the fun!

Any student auditioning for show choir must attend one of the mandatory choreography clinics either today or tomorrow after school from 3:15-4:30. Students must also turn in their Audition Agreement Form and 2 Teacher Recommendation Forms before they will be allowed to audition.
