Registration packets, including access codes for online registration, have been given out to 6th and 7th graders.  8th graders were given access codes only.  If your student was absent and did not receive theirs, the student will need to go to the front office to pick up their registration packet and access codes.

OMMS PTO Academic Partners is proud to once again offer the opportunity to purchase pre-packaged school supplies for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year for OMMS students.   The school supply sale is our LARGEST fundraiser – proceeds from last year’s sale enabled us to donate a Chromebook cart stocked with 32 Chromebooks to the school for general use, as well as to fund other academic requests.  The package will include the requested supplies from the core classes for each grade at the low price of $55 (plus a minimal GoFan fee).  Avoid the stores, save time, and help us raise funds for the school by taking advantage of this convenient option to get your supplies.  These school supply packages will only be available through online pre-order from May 1 to May 31, so be sure to order yours now.

All three Scholars’ Bowl teams will have the end-of-the-year celebration for their amazing seasons tomorrow after school until 4:30 in Mr. Walker’s room and the science lab. You will get to compete against several teachers at the beginning of the celebration in fun competition. Of course, the teachers will win. Hehe. 

Summer wrestling practice parent meeting will be tonight at 6:00 in the cafeteria.

Anyone wishing to purchase a yearbook should see Mrs. Graham (C5) beginning at 7:30 a.m. tomorrow morning until 8:00 a.m. If you need to purchase a yearbook after 8:00 a.m. please see Mrs. Whitt in the front office. No yearbooks will be sold after Wednesday morning. Please make sure that you understand that anyone writing/drawing anything inappropriate in another person’s yearbook or destroying someone’s yearbook will be disciplined and must pay $40 to replace that person’s yearbook.

Yearbooks are being given out during PE classes today to those who have pre-ordered a book. No books will be sold tomorrow. Your next opportunity to buy a book will be Monday morning at 7:30 at Mrs. Graham’s room. $40 payable to OMMS. Have your name on the payment. If you are supposed to pick-up a book for a student who has moved you will need to bring a note from that student’s parents telling us we have permission to send the book home with you. We must have a note from their parents – not yours. You might want take a pen with you to PE (assuming okay with your PE coaches). Fine or extra fine point permanent markers work better for signing – – they don’t smudge as much. The following Monday, 5/20, anyone wishing to purchase a book will need to have payment in hand and line-up along the wall beside Mrs. Graham’s door. Your payment will be your hall pass. Be sure the student’s name is on the check/envelope. Exact change is appreciated. Books are sold on a first come first serve basis. Last year we sold out. 

Final Booster Candy Boost of the year is tomorrow, Wednesday, May 15th, during advisory. Help us sell out of candy and raise money for your Athletic Boosters! Everything is only $1 and is limited stock, so get what you’d like while you can!

Wrestling sign-ups begin next week for summer wrestling practices. Parent meeting will be Monday, May 20 at 6:00 in the cafeteria. 

All library books are due today, May 10th. 

No Dance Team practice Tuesday May 14th. 

This is a LAST call for yearbook purchases. We still have some yearbooks we can sell before they are handed out next Friday (May 17th) during PE. Bring your payment of $40 payable to OMMS no later than Monday afternoon directly to Mrs. Graham in C5. After Monday no books will be sold until after all books have been given out on 5/17. The following Monday, 5/20, anyone wishing to purchase a book will need to have payment in hand and line-up along the wall beside Mrs. Graham’s door. Your payment will be your hall pass. Be sure the student’s name is on the check/envelope. Exact change is appreciated. Books are sold on a first come first serve basis. Last year we sold out.

Registration packets, including access codes for online registration, have been given out to 6th and 7th graders.  8th graders were given access codes only.  If your student was absent and did not receive theirs, the student will need to go to the front office to pick up their registration packet and access codes.

OMMS PTO Academic Partners is proud to once again offer the opportunity to purchase pre-packaged school supplies for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year for OMMS students.   The school supply sale is our LARGEST fundraiser – proceeds from last year’s sale enabled us to donate a Chromebook cart stocked with 32 Chromebooks to the school for general use, as well as to fund other academic requests.  The package will include the requested supplies from the core classes for each grade at the low price of $55 (plus a minimal GoFan fee).  Avoid the stores, save time, and help us raise funds for the school by taking advantage of this convenient option to get your supplies.  These school supply packages will only be available through online pre-order from May 1 to May 31, so be sure to order yours now.

It can be a note, a flower, school supplies, etc. Any sentiment will be great! This is just a small way to let our teachers know they are appreciated.

The Oak Mountain HS mountain bike team overcame strong challenges to take home 3rd place in Division 1 at the State Championship Race at Tannehill State Park last weekend. Oak Mountain HS also finished 3rd overall in Alabama Division 1 for the 2019 season! We had 11 riders on our Middle School Team finish in the top 25 in their categories. Ben W (8th Grader racing in the Freshman Boys class) – 17th place Freshman Boys, In 8th grade boys A-Gray R – 8th place, Sam C – 15th place, Dylan D – 23rd place, Emma M – 7th place in 8th Grade Girls, in 7th grade boys B Cole C – 3rd place, Owen R – 4th Place, Jessica T – 10th place in 7th Grade Girls, Ryan K – 7th place in 6th Grade Boys A, Lawson L – 12th place in 6th Grade Boys B, Addison W – 20th place in 6th Grade Boys B. Congratulations!

All current Eagle Ambassadors should have received a purple sheet Friday about 5th grade visits this week. Please report to the lunchroom in your EA shirt and name tag at 8:00 on your day to give tours. All newly selected Eagle Ambassadors should plan to meet Thursday morning in D-5 at 7:15.

OMMS Fast pass information for Summer registration

To qualify for the “Fast Pass” opportunity at summer registration, please be advised that to qualify, you must satisfy these requirements:

1.      Pre-pay one of the payment options as outlined on the fee sheet that accompanied pre- registration information on Wednesday, May 1, 2019

       Payments may also be made on GoFan.  https://gofan.co/app/events/55080

2.       Complete online registration using Shelby County Schools S.C.O.R.E. website https://score.shelbyed.k12.al.us/login by June 28, 2019 using the Access Code that was sent with the registration packet.

3.      Verify your residence during the week of July 8-12 by bringing your photo ID and two qualifying residency documents to the front office.  Office hours are 8 a.m. – 2 p.m.  These items can serve as proof of residency:

     *  Property Deed – parent/legal guardian must reside full time in the residence.

     *  2018 Property Tax Record –  most recent current year tax record which indicates your primary residence.

     *  Apartment Lease – at the minimum, the parent/legal guardian should be listed as occupant.

     * Recent Mortgage Statement – (June/July) parent/legal guardian must reside full time in the residence.

     *  Recent Utilities – June or July power, water, gas, or garbage bill listed in the name of the parent/legal guardian with service address listed. 

Parents/legal guardians who meet the above requirements will be issued a “fast pass” and will enter through the “Fast Pass” entrance at summer registration.  Summer registration dates are:

Thursday, July 18 – 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Tuesday, July 23 – 4:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, July 25 – 3:00-6:00 p.m.

Students will not be able to attend class on the first day, August 8, until registration for 2019-20 enrollment is complete.

If you know your child is not returning to OMMS, please contact our registrar, Grivera@shelbyed.org  so that records can be adjusted accordingly.  Additionally, the final report card will be mailed to the address of record on May 24th.

Bessemer Composite Squadron of Civil Air Patrol is holding an Open House for those interested in learning more about our program. It is May 6 from 6:30 to 8:30 at the Bessemer Municipal Airport. We would love to have your students and teachers join us to learn about our aviation, aerospace, leadership, and emergency services opportunities. We also have special opportunities for teachers and offer free STEM kits to teachers!

Booster Meeting THIS Sunday, May 5th! Special guest coach to be announced. Come to find out how to get involved and have a blast with athletics at OMMS! 

SGA candidates are reminded to arrive at room B4 five minutes before your appointed time to record your speech.

Tryouts for the middle school summer Oak Mountain Middle School girls’ basketball program will be held on May 13th-16th, 6th & 7th graders interested in trying out for the program should contact Coach Noel during their physical education class, additionally, all AHSAA eligibility requirements for basketball must be completed utilizing DragonFly Max (instructions attached on information sheet). The last day to sign up and to have all AHSAA requirements completed in DragonFly Max in order to tryout will be Monday, May 6th. Any questions, contact jnoel@shelbyed.org

Students signed up for Cross Country must have DragonFly Max requirements completed to 100% to be eligible for tryouts. Please email cwood@shelbyed.org with any questions.
