Meredith George Named Physical Education Teacher of the Year

Meredith George

Meredith George, a physical education teacher at Helena Middle School, was recently selected as Teacher of the Year by the Alabama State Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance (ASAHPERD). Coach George has been part of the Helena Middle School faculty since the school opened in 2008. She is set to complete the doctoral program at the University of Alabama in December 2013.

Helena Middle School Principal, Scott Knight, says George works diligently to serve the school and its students with excellence. “We are so pleased that Coach George is receiving the ASAHPERD State Teacher of the Year Award,” he said. “She is a tremendous asset to our school. Her students and colleagues know just how deserving she is of this type of recognition. We couldn’t be more proud of her.”

As the ASAHPERD representative for Teacher of the Year, Coach George is now a candidate for the national award. Ever humble, George says that although she is honored by the recognition, she is simply serving her students each day.
