Dr. Kristi Sayers, Principal of Oak Mountain High School, has been named the District 5 winner for the Alabama High School Principal of the Year award. Dr. Sayers is now a candidate for the overall state award, which is presented by the Alabama Association of Secondary School Principals, an affiliate of the Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS).
“You should be proud to represent your district in the state contest, and I know that you will be a great candidate for the overall winner,” CLAS Executive Director Vic Wilson wrote to Dr. Sayers.
“I am honored to work alongside so many great leaders in District 5 and am humbled to represent them as District 5 Principal of the Year,” said Dr. Sayers of receiving the recognition. “I know every day we all come to work with one goal: changing the lives of students for the better. My philosophy is together we succeed – school, family, and community.”
There are eight district winners who will compete for the overall Alabama Principal of the Year award, based on their nomination information and an interview before a selection committee in November. In addition to Shelby County Schools, District 5 is comprised of Alabaster City Schools, Bessemer City Schools, Birmingham City Schools, Fairfield City Schools, Gardendale City Schools, Hoover City Schools, Homewood City Schools, Jasper City Schools, Jefferson County Schools, Leeds City Schools, Midfield City Schools, Mountain Brook City Schools, Tarrant City Schools, Trussville City Schools, Tuscaloosa City Schools, Tuscaloosa County Schools, Vestavia Hills City Schools, and Walker County Schools.
Dr. Sayers, who previously served the district as High School Program Area Specialist and Professional Development Supervisor, has been the principal at Oak Mountain High School since May 2014.
