so is it odd that i bought mittens on saturday???

greetings to all, especially those that keep adding to my spam folder (you know who you are dave – why can’t you be un-spam-y like your older, wiser brother??? 🙂

“hope” – biography on a great comedian – if you’re new to this, all comedians, yes all, seem to these really tragic backstories – hope at least wasn’t moody – which was nice – but he wasn’t like a great dad or anything – he was probably the only entertainer to dominate vaudeville, radio, tv, and movies – all at separate times – so learning about him was learning about the 20th century – i definitely remember his latter specials – so that was fun to relive and think about

“steelheart” – one high school BOB down… the basic story of steelheart is “trying to defeat evil superman” – this book was definitely written for movie work – less about any character development and more just a rather fast moving plot – i say that, it really bogged in the backstory – but i finished – will NOT be reading the second book (of course it’s the beginning of a series)

my second graders on sunday are now planning evil things for my sixth grade – b/c they didn’t have enough lego people to play with – i blamed it on my sixth grade messing everything up, nice, right???

  1. Which sixth grade did you blame it on? This year or last year?
I’ll have you know I took very good care of the leg less lego bodies that I used!

  2. “And now it’s time for our ‘Character Moment.’ Waffle?”

“For the past few days, two to be exact, we’ve looked at cooperation. While it would be a wonderful world if everyone was cooperative all the time, a world where Corbotians and Mayfieldians, Hello Kitty and Tragedy Bear, Cole and fantasy leagues all joined hands to sing songs about world peace, the truth is that disagreements exist. Sadly, those disagreements tend to separate people and make them uncooperative. There’s a way around this uncooperativeness and that’s called brainwashing! Here is one good way to brainwash the person you love into cooperating with you the next time you need it. This method is called the ‘Slap Upside the Head.’ This technique not only inflicts pain upon the person that’s being uncooperative, it also knocks a few brain cells out of the head of that person so they’re all that stupider and likely to agree with you the next time you need it.”

“Mmmm, well, as a Princess, I never have to deal with incooperation, or uncooperation, or whatever it’s called, but that sounds like good advice.”

“Even if I’m an evil waffle, remember.”

“Yes, well, kids, remember ‘Character Counts!’ even though there’s no score and no game and so it really doesn’t count. Anyway, today’s message and news show is brought to you by Hello Kitty Waffle Shop, waffles so good even your evil sock puppet would eat them up!!!”

“Um, excuse me, Princess, but as an evil waffle, I’m left in the dark most days… when did we start advertising on our show? Particularly, with an audience full of young impressionable minds that do silly things like build random hills and challenge people to eating contests???”

“Oh, silly Waffle, your head is too full of sugary goodness to know that money doesn’t grow on trees, it grows in restaurants that pay our bills so that we stay on the air.”

“Shouldn’t Mayfield be paying for us to be on the air?”

“Mayfield’s government seems to have a low tax base from all the clues I can gather as a detect-um-Princess-that-cares-so-much-she-asks-around.”

“For the love of Hello Kitty, why couldn’t today be one of those days I get beeped during the show?” Fred complained as he and the detective walked out later that day.

“I think Tragedy Bear is planning something for the dance this afternoon. Are you coming to chaperone?”

“Nah, I have a business to run,” Fred said, “Plus, I never got to go to dances when I was your age because I had this evil patron saint named St. K and she forbid all members of Our Lady of the Marching Band, well, we weren’t known officially by that name at the time but that’s what she eventually named it, anyway, we were forbidden from dancing. I’ve heard she’s even threatened her little sister Sarah with excommunication if she’s found dancing.”

  3. So here’s my story:

I’m reading the books Warriors, (which Dave thinks I should stop reading), and it’s about a bunch of wild cats (not wildcats) that live in the woods and fight aganst each other in clans. There are 4 clans: Thunderclan, Shadowclan, Riverclan And Windcan, and each of them have a different leader. The main character is a cat named Rusty, a house cat who loves his owners. One night, he goes out and finds another cat named Graypaw, (yes, Favorite, they do have weird names), And they fight each other. After a short time, they become good friends, and another cat sees them.

    To be continued……

    😉

  4. See i feel like people just “randomly” ending up in your spam is TOTALLY you putting people in there for punishment. “Sorry Jerome, I dont have any blogs on here from you *haha*”

    Jerome lol

    Dialectical Journals:

“Somehow I manage to sleep through the night, survive into another day” (Haddix 2005)
    ^
I feel that out of context this sends out the same message it would to must people. If you were to show many people this quote most of them would think of depression. When you are in some kind of depression, no matter how deep, you have that feeling: somehow being able to get into the next day(barley). Even if you didn’t know where this quote was from you would know whoever said it is in some kind of funk. We’ve all had that feeling: somehow getting through the night into the next day.

“I want so badly to turn this story around, to end on a happy note-…” (Haddix 2005)
    ^
There is more to this quote (just a little bit) but i cut it out because it really doesn’t apply to what i’m about to say. In this quote the “story” is actually the story of her sisters life/her life. With life people always have those times where they want to just turn things around or change it for what they think is better. People want to “end on a happy note” not noticing that the “happy note” could be soon to come. No one can predict the future, and i think people always fail to see that because they always want to change things because they think they know whats coming next and they want to change it.
    Or
People fail to see what they have in the present so they want to change the past so it will affect the future. (That’s why in the movies when someone travels back to the past they always end up creating ripples and messing things up) Little do they know but usually their lives at the moment are pretty good but they are blocking out the good things and only paying attention to the negative things. (Which isn’t a very good way to live)

  5. OK so i am going to do a creative on Sherlock again. i want to say that i like the fact that you can renew books in the library. i was going to do this with my lil dog in my lap but my mom saw and said to put her down.

Monday: sherlock is listening to the girl with the evil step dad and says that they need to find her future husband. (haha i looked down and theirs my Lil dog sitting beside my chair, shes a blond chihuahua , that got bored and left 🙁 ) so Sherlock and Watson are wondering about the case. so the next day her step father comes in and says that they should tell him when they find his daughters future husband. so Sherlock gets up locks the door and says i found him. the man was her father that disguised himself as a younger man and tricked her into engagement. he did that to get her to stay with her job so she wouldn’t lose a hundred pounds a year. but on the day of the wedding he bails. i kinda think that’s funny because his plan kinda backfired he almost was stuck marrying his daughter. lol.

well that’s my writing tune in tomorrow for another creative from…

    DAVE

Dave’s random advice for the day is:…….

Never eat ice-cream with a knife!!

  6. How to end an annoying backstory: POP THE THOUGHT BUBBLE. it’s that simple.

    “Harry Potter and the sorcerer’s stone”;Line: “Harry-yer a wizard”
Commentary: All the rest of my lines mean nothing compared to this. This is THE most important line in the book. Obviously it is explaining that Harry is a wizard. I hate how the movie, and like everyone else in the world, says that the line is ,”Yer a wizard, Harry”. The correct line is above. If you don’t believe me look it up.
Dave start being a good boy and end up with the rest of us,not in the spam.

  9. Tonight I’m going to do my dialectical journal:

    Monday:

I’m still reading the terrible book called Fire and Ice…

    Quote:
“She belongs to a religious group dedicated to Earth worship.” p. 36

    Commentary:
That is WRONG! Shame on you Jackie…SHAME!

    Quote:
    “great fat stone block…” p. 37

    Commentary:
Well, if it’s so fat it should lay off the kibbles and rocks.

    Sincerely,

    The older, wiser brother 😛

  10. Hey, I am reading RULES this week so here are my 2 journals for Monday.

MIDDLE: Sometimes things work out, but don’t count on it because you never know what or when something random could happen— Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know which one you could get *Forest Gump.

BEGINNING: If you don’t have the words you need, borrow someone else’s because if you get caught up in a sentence and you don’t know what to say just say something about the subject that the other kids were talking about, BE RANDOM!

  11. * My Face Hurts 🙁

    Dialectical Journals

” Better than a thousand hollow words, is one word that brings peace” -Buddha

What he was trying to say at the time was that instead of just saying a bunch of useless words that you can say but your just saying words that are meaningless to you or ” hollow” say one word from your heart or that means something to you and it “brings peace” to what ever situation your in.

” Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase”- Martin Luther King Jr.

The quote means basically what it means to have ” Faith”. When you have “Faith” you walk blindly referring back to ” even when you don’t see” the main word in that is key. You walk blindly because you have ” Faith” you trust in The Lord to guide you on the path he has laid out for you. Even if you don’t know the path he has set for you also referring back to ” you don’t see the whole staircase” the staircase is metaphorically your Path. When you have faith you don’t need to worry about your path or the staircase HE will guide you and take the steps with you.

“Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”-Buddha

Peace comes from within not from without in order for you to have peace you have to find in. If we have peace within then the outside war does not matter if we have peace inside us then whats going around you it does matter if its war or fighting it doesn’t matter you are at peace but if do not have peace then what could seem beautiful to others seems grim and gloomy to you.

  12. Shelby i am very sorry that you got hi in the face. i have a story even though i didn’t break my face it still hurt.

so i was at baseball practice and we were running and catching fly balls (you can guess where this leads) so i was up and i ran to catch a fly ball and i tripped (uh oh) while i was stumbling about the ball came down and hit me right on the temple. well that’s my pain story 🙂

    now creative.

Monday: Sherlock and watson solved the case and the bad bad man said that what he did was not do anything illegal and that he was not in any real trouble. But really. that’s just mean tricking your daughter and dressing up as her fiance. just cold and cruel. but watson went home and the next day Sherlock wanted him the end.

sorry it was a little short it wasn’t really a lot of action

  13. Got stung by a wasp yesterday now my arm is huge. maybe i will become WaspMan
“Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s stone.”;Line:”inside were mounds of gold coins”
Commentary:Wouldn’t it be awesome to find out you have a stack of gold in the bank?harry just found this out. he went from barely having anything, to being able to buy what ever he wants(within reason)
    WaspMan out

  14. Still reading the same ol’ book Steve Jobs:The man who thought different.
    Dialectical journals:
Line:”While the Xerox mouse had three buttons,Jobs insisted that the Lisa mouse have only one, so users wouldn’t have to look at it while they work.”

Commentary:Jobs wants peoples work on the computer to be easier-Jobs created Apple with his friend Wozniak-apparently Jobs did not create Xerox-Jobs was very clingy about how the designs are and wants people to have an easier life.

  15. Tuesday:

Today I’m finishing my dialectical journals.

    Fire & Ice

    Quote:
    “J’mal Stone’s smile went into overdrive….” p. 38

    Commentary:

What kind of name is J’mal? Why can’t people in this book have normal names? Is that too much to ask? I can’t even pronounce it correctly.

    Quote:
“Suddenly, I wondered what was happening between Stone and myelf.” p. 39

    Commentary:
What elf? I didn’t read anything about any elf. Major typo Jackie, major typo.

  16. Dialectical journal: the Vietnam war
Fact: many vc or ( Vietcong ) wore light clothing and very little things carried.
Response: my first response to this is that it’s not the best gear and stuff to wear like the vc often wore sandals instead of boots like the Americans did. Even things as simple as footwear describes each sides fighting style like the vc wore sandals that dried quickly and were light, therefore making little noise, much like the vc liked to fight, quietly and quickly. The Americans boots were heavy and did not dry quickly but were the style Americans liked which was what they excelled in: fighting. The Americans had to kick in mNy doors to find hidden vc and get into their bases and used kicks for hand to hand combat and thats something not gonna happen in sandals. Americans: heavy and loud. Vc: light and quiet. They were virtually opposite but the Americans prevailed in almost every battle they had but the vc also escaped very quickly when attacked.

  17. Counting by 7’s
Willow was having to take lessons from a counselor because the teacher thought she had cheated on a state-wide test because she had made a perfect score… her counselor’s name was, “Dr. Dell Duke”, Willow thought it was cool that he had 3 d’s in his name. (Dell could not belive what he had ended up to be when he grew up, he had dreamed bigger that it, When he was a kid he wanted to be a doctor, he wanted to e some one that saved people’s lives he want to make a difference. Dell tried to take byology in collage but he did not do well cause he was bad at memarising things. So he moved on tried to stay away from that kind of stuff.)
    That is NOT all!

  18. Counting by 7’s
    Here is a quote…
“Sorry,” then looked at her brother and rolled her eyes, “My brother WONT leave until he finish’s his work… his lesson was over TEN MIN. AGO!”
This was made by a girl that willow saw in a room when it was time for her lesson… This shows character about this girl, it shows that she get annoyed at her brother because she is obviously slow and she want to leave… It means that her and her little brother probably don’t get along easy…

  19. Counting by 7’s
While Willow was sitting in the chair waiting for her lesson with the two others one of them was coloring, that was all he did! According to Willow that was “wird” (That was a quote of THE FRED) because he was older than her and the other person.
When Dell came back into the room he was holding a coke ( 😉 ) and a cage with an animal in it. Dell said, “You should bedone with that coloring book by now… i told you to leave by _____” The boy did not care because he just kept on coloring and just sat there like Mr. Dell did not say anything. Then he said it again and the boy just sat there then Dr. Dell droped his cage on the table and Boomed…….
That IS REALY ALL FOR TODAY!!!!!!!!!

  20. Line: “Im looking over a four leaf clover, that Ive looked over many times before!”

Commentary: Im reading the book stargirl and she was in the lunchroom playing her guitar and was singing what i put on LIne. And of course many people think shes insane i wouldnt balme them but anyway so far its a really good book.

  21. Not in first on the blog, but first to name the flag in senora garcia’s class. (Sigh of relif) we need to get rid of january (drug use), signs of crazy (… If you really want to know, just ask me) and romiette and julio (yeah, havent read it yet, but it… Yeah, just ask me on that one too.)

  22. * My face doesn’t hurt for now 🙂

“Action may not always bring happiness; but there is no happiness without action”- Benjamin Disraeli

This means that your action(s) may not always benefit you or bring you joy of some sort but doing nothing will not bring you happiness if you want happiness you can’t just sit on your but and do nothing( metaphorically speaking)if you want to be happy or have joy you have to act even if they always don’t work out referring back to ” always bring happiness” you still need to try to achieve your goal which Is… Happiness, Joy, Blissfulness, etc.

” Our greatest glory consist not in ever falling, but in rising every time we fall.”- Oliver Goldsmith

This could be perceived in different ways but what I think he was trying to get across what that we don’t triumph for losing but trying really hard or going out with a bang, are victory referring back to ” Glory ” is that even though we got beat we come back twice as hard or we get back up on our feet. That we will not take Defeat for an answer that we get up AGAIN and TRY. Even if we ” Fall” we don’t just sit their and say cry about it we get dust our knees off and keep walking.

” The great thing in this world is not so much were we stand , as in what direction we are moving” – Oliver Wendell Holmes

This is my favorite out of this three it can be applied to any situation but the moral of the quote is the time we live in now it doesn’t matter were you started out at ( were we stand) or where were from, who were related all the politics doesn’t matter as long as your moving in the right direction. If your so to say ” Going Places” it doesn’t matter if you lived under a rock for your whole life if your going in the correct direction it has no relevance to you. The tricky part is figuring out what direction to move.

  23. line “my name is dellie”

    commentary
i chose this line because this is the beginning of the story and i dont know a lot but she is a Christian now but when she was little she said that she didn’t really pay attention she also said that she had commited crimes such as robbery, kidnapping, and worse she wishes that she had god in her life earlier than she does now.

    Line ‘

    “i thought he was dead”

    commentary

the reason i chose this is because they were playing baseball and this guy named billy was hitting and harry was pitching and billy hit a line drive and it went right back to harry. dellie and cake thought that he was dead. they both ran to him his nose and mouth were both bleeding like crazy they took him to the doctor and his nose is being fixed

  24. on one stormy night there was a lockin at NXS and suddenly the light cut off for ten second and they heard footsteps.the next thing you know the trophie was missing!!! so they went outside and saw a truck flew by. “what are we going to do??!!” said Eden ” we will simply call the cops and they will figure this out. ok so lets think who is out to get us??” said alexa “Well ace might be out to get us” said Cameron then all the sudden the same truck came and came out of the truck with the trophie it was just ashley going to get the trophie polished

  25. Allllright! I’ve waited for a day my little brother didnt have soccer to once again whip out the “EPIC BLOG”. For the unaware sixth graders, this is normally something you do on Thursday night because youve forgotten to do journals all week and have to do them all at once. In my case, my mom said no blogging after the game tomorrow. Ill do the other bit at home, but here is my creative writing.

    Joy

We can find it in the simplest of things.
No one has to understand why we find it where we do, we just do.
When you are a midst joy, you make youre nearest and dearest memories.
Everyone has it, in some way or another.
    It’s there,
    and its real.
    Strive to find your joy,
and hold it near and dear.

  26. Creative:

“Hi, my name is Alyssa and I am here today to talk about how the 6th grade changed my life.”
Alyssa knew that everyone already knew her name, and she knew that she didn’t need to say what she was talking about, everyone had the same assignment, but she went to the front of the class and said that anyway.
“I…..uh….*ehm*. The 6th grade changed my life by uh…..introducing me to new teachers that changed my way of learning and made me discover my abilities in school.”
Someone from the back of the class said “nerd” and tried to cover it with a cough, but Alyssa heard it. Mrs. Emma hushed the class then made a hand gesture signing Alyssa to proceed. Mrs. Emma was Alyssa’s favorite teacher, she was the only teacher that Alyssa called by their first name. To Alyssa she was “Mrs. Emma”, to everyone else she was just plain old “Mrs. Baker”. But the thing was Alyssa didn’t have any more to her report. Well, actually when she practiced it in front of the mirror or her parents she had this whole report about how great Mrs. “Baker” was but when she got in front of the class, she froze. I mean, she came off as a nerd to the whole class. They would all probably have stories about friends or sports, but no, her report was about a teacher changing her 6th grade year.
In the beginning of the year Mrs. “Baker” had told the whole class to be ready because at the end of the school year they were going to have a big report about what changed them over the 6th grade. Mrs. Emma had changed Alyssa a lot and to tell the truth it was a great story to tell, but maybe just not in front of some people in her class.

    ^
Okay I SO have to fix this, there are so many errors…

  27. Line: Of nights filled with the haunting screams of panthers as they prowled and stalked their prey.
Commentary: I chose this line because in the book they do have one sentence in the book that says something about being chased and came out of the woods and finally saw her house.

Line: When we pulled up to our driveway, I saw my best friend, Little Man, standing by the front door
Commentary: I chose this line because to me that is a little freaky with pulling into the drive way and your best friend is at your house door.

  28. Ok so I know that this will sound stupid, but who’s Alyssa? Mr. Mayfield you should tell me tomorrow in class in front of Chloe Marie, its probably funny and it would DEFINITELY freak her out.

Here’s my dialectal journal on “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”.

Line:” Tom got out his chiefest jewel, a brass knob from the top of an andiron…”

Response: I sense a great deal of irony here, in the fact that his “chiefest jewel”, would have probably been traded away for something else if someone had approached him earlier. The connotative definition of “chiefest jewel” usually is something you save for a rare and special occasion, something Tom Sawyer is highly unkilely to have done (hold onto it for a special moment) In fact, he probably just aqquired it the morning of, which leads to yet more irony.

    Line:”Tom’s heart smote him.”

Response: So I looked up “smote” Google – I’m not gonna lie – and it is the past tense of “smite”, which means “to strike with a firm blow” or “to be strongly attracted to something or someone”. This is an underlying use of diction, and also a touch of irony. I believe Twain was aware of the fact that these definitions both relate to the reality of the situation – Tom was dissapointed that this girl that he liked and like him back was mad at something he said – and chose to put it there on purpose – a use of diction. It’s ironic that he would put it there, because Twain would’ve known going into the publishing of his book that the “young adult” audience wouldn’t pick up on it – Twain might not’ve put it there on purpose, but that’s why I believe it’s ironic.

I think that’s worth four dialectal journals – correct me if Im wrong Mr. Mayfield – so I will write a creative piece about love that doesn’t work out, much like Tom’s present situatuation.

There was a round man – his name not for you to know yet – and he was being spyed on by a round girl like him. He was perched on a wall, staring at the kingdom and all of the kings horses and all the kings men train at a nearby camp. She edged closer, trying to make “a move”. She went to tap him on the shoulder, and her yolk dropped to her feet. Her love, had fallen and shattered, much like her hopes. They tryed to put him together again, but they couldn’t. The other eggs made fun of him because he had “terrible balance”. They mocked him with a storym in ehich they called him “Humpty Dumpty”, mocking him. The round girl ran away, embarrased that what she had done was going unnoticed, as it has done for generations.

3 and 4, this was a crucial play for us to to make. There was a million fans it seemed like staring at us in Bryant Denny Stadium. I was in as the tailback, with Jalston Fower as the fullback. We were in the I formation. The play was designed for the O-line to blow a hole and Jalston to hit the first man to try to get to me through that hole. QB Blake Sims called the huddle and said “Black under 34 lead on 2. Ready “BREAK”. Here we go with 0:23 left on the clock i could not help looking up there adn seeing LSU 35-Alabama 31. Ready…… Go, Go. I darted to take the handoff from Blake but instead he kept it. I was immeadeatly hit by the Middle Linebacker, but before I realized that’s why Blake kept it so i wouldn’t get decleated with the ball. He rolled out to the right, I leaned up to try to see where he was and he didn’t have the ball. What? I looked down field and Amari Cooper had it at the 35 yard line and running. He was wide open and Blake hit him and Amari turned on the after-burners. He was going 10, 5, Touchdown Alabama screamed Eli Gold on the radio. The fans were going nuts!!! I was so gald we had risin to the top and beaten LSU!!

  33. A passage I read todya on Ken Stabler was if he wasnt playing football he was with his girlfriend in Mobile. So he was making four hours trips to see her and he was always late for his classes in the morning. It never harmed him until he got a Telegraph for Coach Paul Bear Bryant. It said he was suspended. The next day he got one from Joe Namath and it said “He means it”. Bryant would give out practice jerseys to which string on the depth chart you were. If you were on his bad side he would call you a turd. Well the 1 string got there jerseys then second team and so on. They were given normal colors, blue, red, orange…… Stabler looked in his basket and there was a brown jersey referring to that he was a turd. LOL 🙂

School is always more important than what you want to do. If you get a good education then you can live at your house and do what you want because you got a good job. What you do always comes back to you good or bad.

One day in Wilsonville there was this kid that was not normal. He had no friends because his mom homeschooled him. The first day of school so many kids made fun of him, but he told his mom that school was going great. As he was walking by the school water fountain a kid tripped him. He hated school, not the learning part the people part. As he went through the years he finally stood up at a pep rally and said “ I say this just for our principal and assistant principal and the counselor, I don’t like being picked on, I want it to stop but I didn’t want to tell because I’d be called a tattle tale science middle school (6th grade now in High school 9th grade)”
