Students completed the notes from the PowerPoint on types of pure substances (elements & compounds), how to locate elements, the differences in groups/periods on the Periodic Table and how to differentiated between elements/compounds.  We will be using calculators tomorrow to calculated % by mass of elements in a compounds.  They will have the Matter Properties and Change Voc. Test on Wednesday and Chapter Test on Thursday.

Students continued taking notes and discussing material in the Matter; Properties and Changes section.  We went over ways to separate mixtures, how to determine the two types of pure substances and how to read the Periodic Table.  Students were reminded to have a calculator on Monday.

After reviewing the answers to the Simpsons WS (44 pt) which they had for homework and the Scientific Scenarios WS, students took the Scientific Method Quiz and began the Scientific Measurements Chapter Review WS.  They will have two labs and a chapter test on all combined Measurements, SI, and the Scientific Method next week.

Students took a short poptest on the Scientific Method (32 pt) first.  Then, we went over the answers to the homework "Scientific Method in Action" WS (20 pt).  They then began the 6.6-1" WS (28 pt).  They were then allowed to complete the Simpsons WS (50 pt) for homework.  They will have the Scientific Method Quiz (50 pt) tomorrow.

Students learned the final 2 steps in the scientific method and how to come up w/a scientific conclusion.  We also used several examples of persons using the scientific method and how to identify each step.  We concluded class by assigning a "Scientific Method in Action" (20 pt). It was assigned to be finished for homework.  Students were also informed of a test on the Scientific Method on Friday.

Students continued taking notes from the PowerPoint on the "Scientific Method".  The learned of the two types of groups in the scientific method and the two types of variables.  As well, they learned how to determine the two groups and find the two types of variables.  We concluded class by looking at the two types of data.

Students were introduced to the Law of Conservation of Mass/Matter.  After discussing and working practice problems, students learned how the Law of Conservation of Mass applies to life.  We then began work on the Law of Conservation of Mass Word Problem WS (50 pt).  If they did not finish the WS in class, they were to complete it for homework.  They also received a Bronze grade for having their calculators in class.
