We continued and finished the final slides on the transfer and uses of Thermal Energy. Students received the Review Questions (60 pts) to complete on their return to class to Monday. They have had the Review Questions all week to complete.
The Mole
We began by introducing the mole and Avogadro's number and how it relates to Chemistry. Then, we started converting from particles/ions to moles and vice versa using conversion factors. We then worked on the Moles to Particles WS (30 pt) for homework.
Thermal Energy
Students took a short poptest question on Heat Lost/Gained prior to finishing the Heat/Lost Gained WS (50 pt). Then, we continued notes from the PowerPoint on Thermal Energy covering the concepts of methods of Heat Transfer in solids, liquids, and gases.
Chemical Reactions/Moles
Students completed the Data and discussions with their partners to complete the Chemical Reactions Lab. Upon completion of the Questions and Lab, students began the Mole Review Questions (60 pt)
Thermal Energy
Students learned what a coolant is used for and how they are used. As well, they learned how to determine the heat lost or gained by a substance. They will finish the Heat Lost/Gained worksheet in class tomorrow.
Chemical Reactions
Students continued with the lab on types of chemical reactions. We concluded the final day with double replacement reactions and their data analysis as they answered the questions by writing and balancing the equations and answering the questions from the lab sheet.
Thermal Energy
We began the chapter examining the concepts of thermal energy, heat and heat transfer in states of matter. The notes from the PowerPoint were discussed as they answered the Review Questions during the PowerPoint.
Chemical Reactions
Students began day 2 of the Chemical Reactions Lab where we learn about Decomposition Reactions and Single Replacement Reactions in the Lab. The ability to write correct chemical formulas and equations as well as balancing those equations is important.
Work / Thermal Energy
After reviewing the answers and concepts on the Work Chapter Review, students took the Work & Machines Chapter Test (100 pts). They began and completed the Thermal Energy Voc. (46 pt) for homework. They were reminded to wear tennis shoes for the Power Lab on tomorrow.
Chemical Reactions/Mole
Students completed the Mole Voc. (18 pt). Then, they began the Mole Review Questions using the textbook (60 pt). They will resume the Chemical Reactions lab on Thursday when I return.
