Students completed the notes from the PowerPoint on Energy. Specifically discussed were the uses of energy by the body and how we represent energy in foods. As well, we discussed how energy can be released from the nuclei of atoms in fission and fusion. Upon completion of the concepts on Energy, students completed the Energy Word Search (16 pts). Then, students took the Energy Voc. Test (26 pt) and worked on the Energy Chapter Review (50 pts) for homework. They will have the Energy Chapter Test on Tomorrow
Chemical Reactions
Today we observed a PowerPoint on Chemical Equations and how to balance them using coefficients. We reviewed Counting atoms w/polyatomic ions prior to the podcast. Then, we observed a Podcast on balancing equations and began to balance equations.
Energy
We continued taking notes from the PowerPoint on "Energy". We discussed Energy changing forms or Energy Transformations w/many examples. Then, we covered how energy can change from kinetic to potential and vice versa. As we covered energy conversions, we brought in the 1st Law of Thermodynamics.
Chemical Reactions
As we continued taking notes from the PowerPoint, "Chemical Reactions", we covered the concepts on skeleton/word equations, and how to read and write them. We discussed how the law of conservation of mass must be satisfied when balancing a chemical equation occurs and what it means to balance a chemical equation. The differences in coefficients and subscripts was determined and how to count atoms was a major topic.
Energy
Students learned how to determine the 3 types of potential energy and differentiate among them. We then, used algebra to solve for mass, height and gravity in equations involving Gravitational Potential Energy. Then, students completed the Gravitational Potential Energy Word Problem Table (30 pts).
Chemical Reactions
Students took notes from the PowerPoint, Chemical Reactions and learned the difference in chemical reactions and chemical equations, products/reactants and how chemical reactions are a part of our lives.
Energy
Students defined energy and its many forms. We learned how energy affects our lives and enables us to live. Then, after learning that there were two main types, we worked 3 practice problems involving kinetic energy. Following the practice problems and learning how it's used in life, we completed a kinetic energy word problem worksheet (33 pts).
Chemical Rections
Students read and completed the Chemical Reactions Review Questions (60 pts) in class.
Air Resistance
Students performed the "Measuring the Effects of Air Resistance" (50 pts) Lab in the hallways to determine how air resistance and friction effect design.
Covalent Bonding
Students conducted the Molecular Geometry Lab (50 pts). Then, had the Chemical Reactions Voc. (44 pt) for homework.
