Students went over the procedures of the Speed Lab today. Rain delayed the lab, so we'll try again tomorrow. Students were advised to dress appropriately.
Covalent Bonds
Students turned in the Covalent Bonds RQ (70 pt) and we began the PowerPoint on Covalent Bonding. We began by discussing the differences in covalent & ionic bonds, bond dissociation energy, diatomic molecules and why atoms bond.
Motion
Students took the Motion Chapter Test (100 pt). They began the Forces Voc (28 pts) after the test. They were advised to dress appropriately for the Speed Lab on tomorrow w/tennis shoes and sneakers, not dress shoes. We briefly mentioned the lab and its procedures. We will go over the entire lab procedure tomorrow.
Covalent Bonding
Students completed the Covalent Bonding Review Questions (70 pt) from the textbook.
Motion
Students observed two videos from the internet on centripetal force and centripetal acceleration. Students then wrote a summary of the information from the videos (15 pt). Then, after the essay, they took the Motion Voc. Test (26 pt) and then upon completion of the Voc. Test, the began the Motion Chapter Review (50 pt). They will have the Motion Chapter Test on tomorrow.
Ionic Bonds
Students took their Ionic Bonds Chapter Test (100 pts) after turning in the Ionic Bonds Chapter Assessment (92 pts). They began the Covalent Bonding Voc (78 pts) after the test. If they did not finish the vocabulary it was due for homework.
Motion
Today, we covered the concept of forces and the differences in balanced and unbalanced forces, the differences in weight and mass, and Newton's 1st Law. Students were assigned the Motion Word Search for homework and they will have the Motion Voc. Test tomorrow.
Ionic Compounds
Students had their Ionic Compounds Voc. Test (50 pts) and then began the Ionic Compounds Study Guide (97 pt) for a review of the concepts on Ionic Compounds. They will have the Ionic Compounds Chapter Test on Monday when they return. All grades will be on the 4th 9 Weeks grading period.
Motion
Students took notes from the PowerPoint on acceleration and its types. Then, we worked 3 practice problems calculation only acceleration and its units. Then, they were given an acceleration WPWS (22pts) to complete. They also received a bronze grade (10 pts) for bringing their calculators to class. All grades will be on the 4th 9 Weeks grading period.
Ionic Compounds
We concluded taking notes from the PowerPoint on Ionic Nomenclature, Metallic Bonds and oxyanions and how they are determined. Students were given the Ionic Compounds Word Search (36 pts) to complete during class. They will have the Ionic Compounds Voc. Test on Monday when they return.
