Students continued taking notes from the PowerPoint on the types of motion. We covered graphing speed and how to read a graph. Also, we compared speed and velocity. Finally, we looked at a video on "Tracking Speed". During the video, students answered questions on a worksheet (30 pts). Grades are completed for the 3rd 9-Weeks. We will begin taking grades for the final nine weeks grading period starting tomorrow. They were advised to bring their calculators to class tomorrow to calculate acceleration.
Ionic Bonding
Students continued taking notes on Ionic Bonding after completing the Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts). We took notes on oxyanions and completed a worksheet on writing ionic formulas.
Motion
Students took notes from the PowerPoint on Speed, average speed, the two major types of speed and how to read a speed graph. We spent time on how to recognize increasing speed, decreasing speed and constant speed using a graph. We concluded class discussing speed & velocity. They were reminded to bring their calculators every day again.
Ionic Compounds
4th period
Students completed the Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts) in class. Upon completion of the Worksheet, they read and take notes from pp. 219-221 on polyatomic ions. Then, they are to answer practice problems 1 & 2 for a bronze grade (15 pts).
6th period
Students learned how to write and name formulas with polyvalent ions (transition elements). We worked several problems and then they completed the Writing Ionic Formulas w/Polyvalent Elements WS (50 pts) and Naming Chemical Formulas w/Polyvalent Elements (50 pts). They were assigned the Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts)for homework.
Motion
Students worked on and completed in class, the Motion Review Questions (60 pts). They were reminded to have a calculator for class beginning on Monday again.
Ionic Compounds
Students continued by looking at the Podcast on Writing Chemical Formulas for Ionic Compounds and completing the Writing Ionic Compounds Worksheet (50 pts) in 6th period. Fourth period learned what polyvalent ions were, and how to write/name compounds w/polyvalent ions. They concluded class w/two worksheets; Naming Ionic Compounds w/Polyvalent ions and Writing Compounds w/Polyvalent ions (50 pt each). They were due at the conclusion of class.
Chemical Reactions / Motion
The teacher went over the answers to the Chemical Reactions Ch. Review prior to the test. Then, students took the Chemical Reactions Chapter Test (100 pts). Upon finishing the test, students began the Physics portion of the course by completing the Motion Vocabulary (28 pts) and turning it in by GPS if possible.
Ionic Compounds
After reviewing the Properties/Characteristics of Ionic Compounds, we went over the terms oxidation number, ion charge and began to learn how to write Ionic formulas for ionic compounds. We observed a podcast from PoppaPodcast on Writing Ionic Formulas and completed an Writing Ionic Formulas worksheet (50 pts).
Chemical Reactions
Students completed the Word Scramble (32 pt) puzzle to prepare for the Chemical Reactions Voc. Test (34 pts). After the Vocabulary Test, the began the Chemical Reactions Ch. Review (50 pt) to prepare for tomorrows, Chemical Reaction Chapter Test.
Ionic Bonding
Students continued taking notes on "Ionic Bonds" from the PowerPoint covering the topics of energy in reactions, lattice energy, subscripts, superscripts, and how to write chemical formulas for ionic compounds. They completed the Naming Ionic Compounds WS (50 pts) for homework.
