Students continued with the notes on Atoms & the Periodic Table. They turned in the Elements Symbols WS (100 pts) for homework. Topics included the difference in Atomic Number and Mass number as well as Atomic Mass. We also learned how to determine the numbers of the parts in an atom. Students then learned the differences in groups & periods and completed the Atomic Structure WS 1 (47 pts).
Electrons in Atoms
We continued talking about the properties of waves as they relate to electrons. We discussed amplitude, frequency, wavelength and speed. We concluded class calculating the speed of various waves on a worksheet (30 pts).
Atomic Theory
We concluded the Powerpoint today finalizing the scientists who developed the atomic theory. We also mentioned the parts to the atom, their charges and locations. We also discussed the particles in the nucleus and different terms used to describe electron location. The symbols and how you write the symbols for the elements were briefly covered.
Electrons in Atoms
Students took notes on the "Electrons in Atoms" discussing the problems w/Rutherfords theory and how we view atoms and electrons today. The four properties of waves and how they relate to speed were discussed. The class concluded with the Wave Speed WS (30 pts) for homework.
Atomic Theory
Students took notes from the powerpoint on the scientists who developed the Atomic Theory. We also discussed their contributions and the time frame in which they developed these theories.
Electrons in Atoms
Students completed the "Electrons in Atoms" Vocabulary (76 pts) and began the Review Questions for the same chapter (60 pts)
Atoms & the Periodic Table
Students worked on and completed the "Atoms & the Periodic Table" Vocabulary (36 pts) and Atomic Theory scientists (18 pts) in class.
Structure of the Atom
Students took the Structure of the Atom Chapter Test (100 pts) and Began the Electrons in Atoms Vocabulary.
Solids, Liquids, & Gases
Students took the Solids, Liquids, & Gases Voc. Test (42 pts) and Chapter Test (100 pts).
Structure of the Atom
Students completed the Structure of the Atom Chapter Assessment (92 pts) in class. They also worked on the completed information from p. 92 and 95 in the Chemistry textbook. They will have their Structure of the Atom Chapter Test on tomorrow.
