We began taking notes from the PowerPoint on Classifying Matter. We discussed the two major types of matter and how things are classified beyond the types with examples. We compared the two types of pure substances and how they are different. They will be having a vocabulary test on Friday.
% Composition
Students began and worked on the % Composition WS (60 pts). If they did not finish the WS, they were allowed to take it home to complete it as well as the Matter; Properties and Change Crossword Puzzle (44 pts). They will have the Matter; P & C Voc. Test on tomorrow and chapter test on Wednesday.
Classifying Matter
Students worked on the Classification of Matter Review Questions from the textbook (Matter & Temperature chapter-60pts). They turned in the questions at the end of the period. Reading and summarizing were the goals.
Percent By Mass
Students practiced 2 % Composition Problems by Mass and worked on the same WS. (50 pts). We also completed the notes for the Mass; Properties and Composition PowerPoint.
Toilet Tissue Lab
Students completed the last segment in the Scientific Method series; the Toilet Tissue Lab. Data documentation was completed in class.
Elements, Compounds & Mixtures

Students took notes from the PowerPoint on Characteristics of Mixtures and the 4 different ways to separate a mixture.
10/25/18 (Thursday)
We continued taking notes on ways to differentiate between an element and compound. We then began to talk about the Law of Definite Proportions and what it means. They were assigned practice problems 1 & 2 from p. 244 in the text on % Composition.
Scientific Method/Class. of Matter
10/24/18 (Wednesday)
Students took the Measurements & Scientific Method & Conversions Chapter Test (100 pts). We went over the answers to the Chapter Review then took the Chapter Test. They began the Classification of Matter Voc. (38 pts) for homework. They were reminded to dress for lab on Thursday and Friday.
10/25/18 (Thursday)
We went over the directions and procedures for the Penny Lab (50 pts) and Toilet Tissue Lab (72 pts) prior to entering the lab for the activities. All students completed the Penny Lab and were reminded to dress to complete the Toilet Tissue Lab on Friday.
Matter
Students completed the notes on types of mixtures and how they differ from pure substances.
Scientific Method & Measurements
Students went over the answers to the Simpsons WS (44 pts) which was for homework. Then, they took the Scientific Method Quiz (50 pts). After the Quiz, they completed the Methods of Science Chapter Review (82 pts). They will have the Measurements, Scientific Method Quiz Test on tomorrow. They were advised of the labs on Thursday and Friday.
