Students finished taking notes on the base units of SI, meniscus and density. We learned how to calculate density and began word problems solving density, mass and volume. They will need their calculators again tomorrow to complete the density Word Problem Work Sheet (WPWS) - 27pts
Scientific Notation
Students took notes on Scientific Notation (Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing) and discussed how to properly use a calculator doing these operations. We also discussed how to perform these without a calculator. Then, they were assigned a worksheet (48 pts) performing these operations for homework.
SI
Students took notes from the Powerpoint on SI and its base units. We learned the base units for mass, volume and distance and what they stand for. We will be calculating density tomorrow and learn derived units. They must have a calculator in class tomorrow.
Scientific Notation
Students took notes from the Data Analysis PPT on how to write numbers in scientific notation and convert numbers back from scientific notation. Then, they completed a Scientific Notation WS (40 pts). They will have a scientific notation Test on Friday.
English Conversions Test
Students took the "English Conversions Test" (100 pts) in class today.
Density
Students took notes on derived units and how to calculate Density. The concept of density was discussed as well as how to calculate density in 6 steps. The ability to determine the correct unit in Density, volume, and mass were also calculated. We worked 2 practice problems before being given the Density WS (50 pts) for homework.
English Conversions
Students worked on conversion factors and how to use them on the "Conantucki Island" WS (21pts). The students were able to write conversion factors to convert between trades of goods on an island. They will have the English Conversions Test (100pts) tomorrow. They were advised to study the conversion equations for the test tomorrow. They were also given work from another textbook, p. 25 and 44-46 to read and take notes on to prepare for SI conversions.
2nd Sem. Exam Rev Guide
Students received the 4th Qtr Exam Review Guide and were allowed to work on their reviews for class. They were also instructed what items to bring w/them on the day of their exam.
The Day After/2nd Sem. Exam Review
Students watched the last 5-10 min. of "the Day After". Then, they were assigned the Day After Review (100 pt) Gold Grade and were given the 4th Qtr Rev. Guide. They were told what items to bring and the day of their exam. Study!!!!
The Mole
Students continued and were allowed to finish "The Mole" Chapter test using their notes and their textbook. They were also given their 3rd Qtr Review Guide to help them prepare for the 2nd Semester Exam.
